So I've finally started working on the full size (A0 - 841 x 1189 mm [13244 x 18724] at 400dpi). I spent most of the day compositing my two continent maps (the north and south) and making sure that everything is to scale and aligned correctly.
It almost looks ready, but I need to completely redo the labels and all the iconography as they're composites from the individual maps and are to different scales and are all merged and rasters, so now I begin the...

I was able to get another map done (3 in a month - certainly a record!). Again, most of this map was already finished thanks to me having already worked on surrounding regions earlier on in the year, so I just had to update the parts I haven't touched on before.
You can find an updated key to the map here.
This is the low-res version available to everyone. 2017-07-30 12:22:21 +0000 UTC

This was a quick one to make - most of the topography was already finished, and much of the labelling was done from previous work done on bordering nations, so I just had to do the central area of the map.
The next map will likewise be a quick one, as it details the region to the W of here - Mharokk, which has even more work finished for it from this map and the Vaalk map I had done last year.

So here's the latest map in the series - a diptych, so-to-speak (or a two-page spread, if I don't feel like being pretentious) - detailing two almost-neighbouring nations with a shared heritage. If you look closely, the bottom left of the top map lines up with the top right of the bottom map.
The land just south of the bottom map (Sagittaria) is also linked to these two and will be one of the next maps I work on, though I'm not sure of the layout yet.
I was going to start tha...

Amongst the more fantasical entries you'll come across in this series, this is one of the more mundane ones... or is it?
It's inspired by Bernini's Ecstasy of St. Teresa, and this amazing Alien: Covenant poster art, both of which are perfect fits for Elyden.&n...

This is one of my favourite locations in the Atramentally wasted deserts of Kharkharadontis and gives a good idea as to the strangeness of the entire region the.
The closer one gets to the so-called Black Fountain (the source of the Aramenta in Elyden) the stranger the terrain becomes... I'll be detailing some of this odd Atramental terrain in the next few entries

One of the first 'places' I ever came up with for my world, the Hall of Records of Khadon is a monument to red tape and bureaucracy, which is something I always thought the Korachani was rather adept at.
Thanks for the comments - I'll be sure to add a few of these between other projects :)

Here's a bit of background on one of the regions I'm currently working on, which I thought I'd share as a little graphic. I'd love some feedback on this type of post - is anyone interested in seeing more stuff like this?
If so, I have LOADS of stuff like this I can post.

I've been working on a worldbuilding article that requires quite a few graphics of the process and I've just started working on these now. This is the first of hopefully many such graphics: the Atmospheric Circulation map.
Atmospheric Circulation
You can divide both northern and southern hemisphere into three distinct bands between the equator (0O) and 30O, 30O and 60O, and 60O and 90O. These can be called tropical, temperate, and arctic bands. These bands are also used ...

Here's the blurb for the next map I'm working on, the Old Forest. It's quite a long one as I wanted to try and stay away from the mystical forest trope as much as possible while still having it be a mystical forest. I'm not sure on the way the information is presented and any feedback wouldbe much appreciated:
Known as Tar yo- Dhai in the Korachani empire and as Vanefar by its natives, most names for this region, regardless of language, can be roughly translated as:...

I've always loved vampires. A particular kind of vampire, mind you - things like Nosferatu, Dracula, Strahd, the Von Carsteins. And I'm a bit fed-up with their proliferation of popular culture (same as zombies, though I've never liked them as much). Too many pop TV shows and movies glamourising what I always thought should be a tragic story.
Elyden does not have vampires, though there are denizens of the night that fulfil a similar niche (creatures that subsist on the souls of others, rat...

I spend much of the day messing around with Google Earth and QGIS, trying to change the projection of my Atlas Maps from Equidistant Conic to Equirectangular, so that I can wrap them around the above Google Earth map.

Here's another of my random bio+heraldry posts, in High-res only on my Patreon!
This is the first such post to feature a different sort of heraldry - the halfblood house seals:
As per ancient heraldic tradition, halfbloods are not allowed to possess heraldry. In its place they developed the use of the household sigil, which emerged from their use of signet rings to identify themselves in correspondence. While not technically heraldry, it has, over the centuries, developed its ...

I couldn't help myself, so I made another one of these heraldry / biographies, this one detailing a naturalist and scholar of Almagest. His speciality? Faerex and other 'fey' creatures of the Old Forests of central Llachatul. I just got an image of a faerie spread open on a table like an anatomical venus and had to roll with it.
Faerex are semi-sapient creatures, reaching 8 “ - 12” inches in height that resemble small humanoid stick insects with large gossamer-thin wings. First-mentio...

Another of my (very) irregular heraldry biographies, this one about a mad cartographer (sounds familiar!)
His vice is one of my favourite regions of Elyden - the Prison Carceri - a region that I wish to explore in more detail, but also want to keep as obscure and mythical as possible so that when I eventually get to it in fiction it hasn't been completely spoilt.
I do plan on making a cavern-map in the near future in the style of climate map from the Atlas elyden detailing t...

What follows is the background for the next region I'm working on: a diminishing corner of the Inner Sea. collectively known as the Faded States
Perhaps exemplifying the entropy of Elyden more than anywhere else in the Inner Sea, the history of the regions of Arkos, Ba’ath, Suma’ya and Zion (collectively known as the Faded States) are, as befits their geography and cultural similarities, intertwined. They are regions whose past was shaped by Korachani expansionism and whose futures are...

11 – the Council Hall, Zaffre
The leadership and cognoscenti of all of Zaffre were gathered in the great forum. There were the eight Consul-primaries, their respective secondaries, and dozens of other local orderlies and officials, not to mention the foreign diplomats and guild lords.
They were all stood beneath the great dome, its gilde...

Elyden has been dormant for far too long, damn real life getting in the way of worldbuilding!
I've just finished a new map and have updated the composite map, above. The newest map took me ages to get done. The labeling (especially in the middle) is very tight and not very pretty to look at, admittedly, and I have reservations about the topography now that I look at it (it seems too uniform with green around the outside and yellow in the middle. I'm thinking I want to mix it up a bit and incre...

Yes, I've been away for a while - christmas and new year is always difficult to keep the creative juices flowing, with ffamily obligations, though this is the first new post of many over the coming year that will see the Inner Sea region fully-mapped!
