A little more Fred
Haven't had much time to do more than just a little flood-filling, but hopefully I'll have time this weekend to shade and spot 'im.

Kathy G and I were discussing comic minutiae again, and I pointed out, in a roundabout fashion, that she never seemed to do any 'cheesecake' type art. In a nutshell, she doesn't think her art is good enough for "bikini girl" type of work, and I suggested that good cheesecake doesn't necessarily have to show off a lot of ski- er, fur.
I suggested simply art of the characters outside of their normal roles, and posed to make them look more interesting than we usually see them.
One Id...

Also known as Single Appreciation Day, or half-off-chocolate-day-eve. :)
I completely missed that VD was coming, and didn't do up any artwork- and was so busy the last couple of days, I wouldn't have had a chance even if I had remembered.
I went digging through my archives for something to post- I have a piece of art of Roger and his wife, that long predates the character in the comic. I drew it for the real-life inspiration of Roger, who was back then dating the lady who would ev...

It's basically an award- I think it's engraved lucite, so, like an actual physical tchotchke- for the years' best anthropomorphic thing. I'd like you all to nominate TWB as a comic strip, and the Sherlock Holmes story in specific, as a graphic story. (Keeping in mind that...

My biggest and best video yet! The full restoration of one of the closest things we have to an antique in the sport of paintball! A rare early-generation maker that was only made from around 1986 to late 1987, and is so rare today that few players have even heard of it, let alone actually used one.
(I haven't yet found anyone who has actually used one in a game.)
And sorry about Monday's filler- getting this video finished and uploaded turned out to be a all-day circus.

Yup, I do a little woodworking on occasion, too!
Client sent in a semi-rare Carter Machine stock-class pump, and due to the unusual shape of the grip frame, I convinced him he needed a set of custom grip panels to match. :)
Took a lot of extra time on this video- still not perfect, but we're getting there.

Now that the Sherlock stuff is all done, time to get back to our boys at the field. It's pretty rough, but the important part's there. :)
I'll continue this for a couple more weeks, and then it's gonna go dark, since I'm planning for this to go live on the main page in the spring. (That's my spring, not most of your springs. :) )

Over on M. Carter Brown (one of the last decent paintball boards left) I participated in this years' "Secret Santa" exchange, which I've done for probably five years running, now. The MCB'ers are not exactly stingy in their gift-giving, and recipients usually wind up with some cool stuff.
This year, a little late (though they told me it would be) I got what is and may likely remain so for a while, the best SS gift I've ever gotten: TWB statuettes!
These things have made my yea...

And that's a wrap, folks! Hope you enjoyed it- both versions, really.
I'd like to thank Kathy Garrison-Kellogg of the hyena-centric webcomic Carry On for writing this for us. I went off the rails a bit with my version, but I think it came out well.
Let us know what you think! We'd both like to try this again sometime- maybe next time we can make it Roger's dream. :)

Here's where the our two versions really started to diverge. :)
Kathy wanted to slip in a paintball scene, since these are, after all, the TWB players. And initially I loved the idea- a sort of steampunk-themed paintball game could be a lot of fun.
But the more I thought about it, and especially given some of the upcoming plot points, the more I thought it kind of out of place. A little too nonsensical even for a TWB parody. :)
Dialogue:

The second panel, which I turned into a full-width image and went full Don Martin on the stabbery, was based off a famous drawing used in one of the very early Holmes books. Kathy provided me with several such pictures that she'd found online, as well as basing several of her own sketches on them.

Was kind of hoping more people would notice. :)
Also, the 'space' between the two...

Not much to say here, except it contains some of the first clues- both to Kathy's original storyline, and the one I eventually wrote. :)
Dialogue:
Holmes, steepling fingers: What was the motive?

For the next few weeks, I'll be posting the storyboards and dialogue that Kathy (from Carry On) set me up with, along with a little 'behind the scenes' commentary.

I've been collecting gags...
