It was a balmy afternoon on Sunday April 25 1971 in the United States capitol of Washington D.C. Allenteen Spinks left her apartment on Wahler Place Southeast in Congress Heights, a neighbourhood in the states southwest, to visit an aunt who lived on the other side of town. Before she left, Allenteen warned her children they were not to leave while she was gone.

It was a dark green suitcase. Given its proximity to the bridge, the men assumed it must have blown off the luggage rack of a vehicle driving above and hauled it onboard. 12-year-old Sam expressed his excitement at thinking they had stumbled upon pirates’ treasure and hastily zipped the bag open, finding it held items wrapped in thick black garbage bags sealed with blue adhesive tape.

At 11:00pm on Friday March 14 2003, a call was placed to the United Kingdom’s emergency services telephone number, 999. As per standard procedure, the operator answered by requesting which emergency service department the caller required - fire, police, or ambulance. But they received no reply.

With Operation Cathedral underway, investigators continued to reach out to internet service providers to collect the names and addresses of customers with IP addresses linked to the club. Upon obtaining this information, detectives dispersed across the country to conduct mass surveillance of 13 addresses where Wonderland members were suspected to operate.

Officers at the scene conducted an initial examination of the limb and identified it to be the forearm of a caucasian male, severed at the elbow and wrist. They were certain the victim’s hand had been intentionally removed to hinder efforts to identify the remains through fingerprint analysis.
