Lol...so the other night I went to go see The Shining at a theater playing in my area with my parents. My mom realized that we had been to the Overlook exterior years ago on a family summer vacation. She couldn't find a picture of the actual hotel in the old family photos but, this is second best. Timberline Lodge at Mount Hood. Who else has been?

Has anyone seen this film? I saw it a few weeks ago and I absolutely adored the premise. And judging by the first 15-20 minutes of the film, I could see it being a true masterpiece in the right hands. But goddamn....it really fell apart. And it really pissed me off. Mainly because I liked the opening so much. Great characters and performances. But it really lost its way in act 2 and 3 for me. A shame. ACROSS THE SPIDERVERSE Artists

So the animators are complaining about the exhaustive working conditions during Across the Spiderverse. And....yeah....duh. I was waiting for something like this to come out. There's...no way that wasn't the case, based on the final product. I spent so much of that movie with my mouth wide open, just shocked at the amount of work that could've gone into it hypothetically. I was picturing something like 2,000 animators working on it at once. Felt beyond human, more like AI, and I've never seen...

THE TRIAL for Criterion

It's finally coming to Criterion. And now I suppose is my official excuse to review this one. People have asked me for years. It's a movie I've always felt was messy but also super underrated for Welles. I'm very excited about this. Have you guys seen it, and if so, what are your opinions? I'm not a fan. Never was. He don't seem nice. But...I've been seeing some clips of him lately, where my respect for him just went up. And no...not meme related. Rethinking Tar

So I've seen the film now four times. Its tone is such that I couldnt put my finger on it for a bit there. But the direction in terms of exploring the abstract, the dreamy, the breaks in logic, etc. etc., is some of the most detailed and subtle I've ever seen. It wasn't until the third viewing that I even noticed the ghost haunting her in the background. Jerry Goldsmith's score to that film is fire. So underrated, and a great unexpected choice. I always wished he could've done something like The Lion King. Or...I wish I could hear his version at least.
