Overlook Hotel

Lol...so the other night I went to go see The Shining at a theater playing in my area with my parents. My mom realized that we had been to the Overlook exterior years ago on a family summer vacation. She couldn't find a picture of the actual hotel in the old family photos but, this is second best. Timberline Lodge at Mount Hood. Who else has been?

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

Has anyone seen this film? I saw it a few weeks ago and I absolutely adored the premise. And judging by the first 15-20 minutes of the film, I could see it being a true masterpiece in the right hands. But goddamn....it really fell apart. And it really pissed me off. Mainly because I liked the opening so much. Great characters and performances. But it really lost its way in act 2 and 3 for me. A shame. Definitely would've worked much better as a short film in the hands of these writers. And it...

Ask Me Anything

Okay guys. It seems the verdict overall seems to be that you guys would prefer to do a more intimate Q&A here focusing on your specific questions. And then I will make a video addressing the public at a later time. So yeah...go ahead and ask me whatever below. If I don't wish to answer I will politely decline. But, I tend to be fairly open. So I'm all ears.

60K

Hey guys! So I hit 60K very quickly due to a spike in content exposure. Wasn't thinking I would be doing one of these for at least a little bit but...here we are. Thank you guys again for all your support. But more than that, thank you for building such a cool and lovely community here with me. I enjoy getting to know you guys a lot through this. I did want to ask you....for my next Q&A, would you guys like me to do just a private Q&A for just you guys on the patreon platform, and the...

Apologies

Hey guys. I see I have quite a few messages in my inbox. Patreon has been screwing up a lot lately. Right now I cannot access the messages, but I will keep trying. It's not that I'm ignoring you, I promise. I will get back to you as soon as things are working again. It's been pretty annoying, all the unnecessary obstacles. -_-

TALK TO ME

Just caught a late night showing of it, was high af. Was really great. Really wasn't expecting it to be as engaging as it was. Who has seen it? What are your thoughts?

Taco Bell

Are there any Taco Bells in the world anymore that include other options besides reduced-fat sour cream? I can't find just normal, old-fashioned sour cream as an option anywhere anymore. It's like...who the fuck are you...to tell ME to reduce my fat intake? Fuck you, Taco Bell.

SNOW WHITE

I dunno if you guys have followed the trajectory of this Disney Snow White film but...it really is a snake eating its tail sort of situation. Where the attempt to not offend becomes so self-aware that you begin unknowingly...offending and alienating many. Feels like we've reached a new low with this one. I felt sad that Peter Dinklage made the comments that he did regarding the project, especially since I've heard him say many wise things in the past. But it seems as a result, the seven dwarf...

Dinner Meeting with H.W. Plainview

lol...we finally met in person after years of philosophical discussion through message. It was great. He's an awesome dude. For those who don't know, I interviewed him last year about what it was like to star in There Will Be Blood as a young kid with no acting experience. We've been in contact for years. Was only a matter of time before we met in person. As suspected, we talked for hours lol. And no...not much about the movie. I didn't ask about it. He brought it up a couple of times. But ot...

Mission Impossible

Working on editing the review. Was a fun time. I recommend it to you guys if you haven't seen it already. A proper blockbuster type of experience.

Which one would you like for me to review first? One will be on time. The other will have to be delayed.

2023 Movies (So Far)

What movies have stood out to you this year so far? I know the better films tend to be released in the second half of the year, but often I overlook some good ones in the first half. Let me know what you guys enjoyed.

DIAL OF DESTINY

Has anyone seen it yet? I know some have gone to some screenings. I try not to learn much about a movie going into it but...unfortunately I've heard some things. What are you guys anticipating?

ACROSS THE SPIDERVERSE Artists

So the animators are complaining about the exhaustive working conditions during Across the Spiderverse. And....yeah....duh. I was waiting for something like this to come out. There's...no way that wasn't the case, based on the final product. I spent so much of that movie with my mouth wide open, just shocked at the amount of work that could've gone into it hypothetically. I was picturing something like 2,000 animators working on it at once. Felt beyond human, more like AI, and I've never seen...

THE TRIAL for Criterion

It's finally coming to Criterion. And now I suppose is my official excuse to review this one. People have asked me for years. It's a movie I've always felt was messy but also super underrated for Welles. I'm very excited about this. Have you guys seen it, and if so, what are your opinions? (side note: I'm really not crazy about the cover art here. What do ya'll think?)

Ben Affleck

I'm not a fan. Never was. He don't seem nice. But...I've been seeing some clips of him lately, where my respect for him just went up. And no...not meme related. This commentary clip from Armageddon is great. I'm sure some of you have already seen it but....XD this is so refreshing. I wish more actors could be real about their own movies. Stop selling a product for five seconds...and have some fun with it.  It's all silly, so don't take it so seriously, and tell us what you really think!<...

So there are some obvious movies we all want to see this next month, but I was wondering what some of yours are specifically. Which ones should I keep my eyes out for? I will likely do a poll on this subject soon.

Rethinking Tar

So I've seen the film now four times. Its tone is such that I couldnt put my finger on it for a bit there. But the direction in terms of exploring the abstract, the dreamy, the breaks in logic, etc. etc., is some of the most detailed and subtle I've ever seen. It wasn't until the third viewing that I even noticed the ghost haunting her in the background. To me this is one of the great subtle experiences of what it means for reality to bend and distort all around you, but in a way that feels s...

Jerry Goldsmith's score to that film is fire. So underrated, and a great unexpected choice. I always wished he could've done something like The Lion King. Or...I wish I could hear his version at least.

Reporting Back

Hey guys. I have a little time, and thought I would tell you all about the movies I saw on my flight to Italy. I watched about four total, and enjoyed all of them for different reasons. Thought I would let you know about them, and see what you guys thought if you've seen them too. I'll go in order:

1. SHE SAID dir. by Maria Schraeder -

As someone highly invested in the Weinstein controversies, far before he was ever ousted by Ronan Farrow or the NYT, I felt I shou...
