I'm a big summer girl, and I love summer movies...or used to. Big Hollywood movies was an American staple. But not so much these days. And yet, I still have hope each year. What films are you guys looking forward to in June? 

Vacation Time

Oscar Nominated Shorts

I have a friend who each year, takes it upon himself to watch the oscar nominated shorts, both animated and non, before the Academy Awards. He's not interested in the Academy Awards per se, however he likes to support short films. I watched a few of them that he recommended. Le Pupille was my favorite that I saw. It's everything you could want in a short film, in my opinion. Wonderful style to it.

Baby J - John Mulaney Netflix Special

I have opinions on John Mulaney's new netflix special.

First of all, he is a great storyteller, and that is his main strength as a comedy writer. Here he tells stories that are interesting, sometimes funny, and more morbid than we are used to from him. I've been chipping away at this one for an eventual review. Watched it with some friends the other night. Both of them loved it. I really love Fellini's universe personally, and this one in particular is quite full of whimsy, and in other ways it almost feels a little overstated at times for me. Such sharp wit and beauty, yet it doesn't say as much to me as I wish it did. Next Watch Party

So...for those who were there on my last one, I have finally resolved the sound problem. Which is such a relief. This will make things so much easier for the next one. You guys had mentioned possibly watching The Red Shoes, or Singin in the Rain for the next one. But I wanted to get a sense of what some of you guys are feeling. Throw out some ideas if you'd like. I mention above that he was a terrible person, but what I had been telling people ever since, is that I didn't buy that he was innocent for a second, due to my time working for him. Ya'll...I saw my first Scream movie, ever. Yes, yes....I know. But I was roped into seeing the latest Scream entry with a friend in theaters, who coincidentally, had never seen a Scream film before either. What is Scorsese's Worst Film?

So...I have had this weird things about Shutter Island, where the film really bothers me, and I've always wanted to go back and review it. It's a subject matter that really interests me just as a film topic: McCarthy era psychological thriller, trapped in a psych ward, never sure what's real or who to trust...all shit up my alley for cinematic exploration. But I feel it is one of Scorsese's weakest entries, and it really bums me out. And for someone I admire, it's interesting to pick apart wh...

Buffalo Chicken

I feel that the concept of the buffalo chicken sandwich does not work. The buffalo sauce and flavor encompassing the entire chicken breast, rather than just the wing, is already overwhelming, and then it overpowers any and all other condiments. There's gotta be something to cool down the brightness of them flavors, in a bite-size way, and nothing seems to work for me. Now you want to go from fried chicken, to a classic spicy chicken sandwich, then I'm first in line. But buffalo wings to buffa...

Kevin Smith Weinstein Story

I always found this story interesting. I respect Smith because of how unpretentious he is, and he genuinely just likes to make what he wants and doesn't care about the critics. Whether you like his movies or not, he seems like a nice guy to get a beer with. Always sensed his anecdotes were more genuine and less played-up/rehearsed than perhaps other celebrity film directors.
