Wall calendar 2017 - preorder! :)

Hey you lovelies! I just put together next year's calendar, and I'm pretty happy to announce it's all-new art in there, nothing older than a year! I'm not sure I've ever produced 12 calendar-worthy pieces in twelve months ever before! ^____^

Everyone who preorders it through Etsy gets two sets of art cards - and as a special treat for you, on top of your regular Patreon discount, you can choose what sort of art cards you want - Fantasy or Star Wars (or one of each!), and I'l...

The end of a realm, of a world, of a dream

YES, I'm definitely, definitely happy with this one!

Paul, when I post this, can I use the link http://paul-leone.com/books/ , or should I go with another one?

Next wip - and thoughts on art-free periods and development

A few months ago, I resolved to colour more softly. Don't load on such concentrated pigment on my paintings in the first brush stroke, but build up more gradually and more carefully, leave some areas fuzzier.

I couldn't. I just kept on loading. The Heron Lady worked fairly well, but I felt it wasn't exactly the route I was going for.

Then came a three-month period without much painting at all, and much as those suck*, I suddenly was able to apply new approaches and principles...

Camlann - next wip

Our old cat couldn't be bothered by painting.  Isis and Loki can. They're everywhere. Literally everywhere. The only way to paint is to play them both drop-dead tired and then sprint to the desk. :D But I'm on it now, Paul!

Camlann underway

Also did some more wash work on Camlann. Guys, it's so freaking cold and wet here in Germany that the paint doesn't dry. And of course, you just refuse to turn the heating on in August, so it stays cold and wet inside, too. I remember a similar summer - might have been 2001 - when everything was so wet and clammy that my coloured pencils just rotted away in their case.

Camlann - first colour washes

I'm off on holidays (much-earned) for about one and a half weeks tomorrow. The raffle draft will be online around the seventh of August or so, I hope! Then I'll continue this one, too. :) See you in August!

Camlann - lines properly scanned

So, everything is back to normal around here - comp is working again, and my watercolour workshop was a blast! :)

I also scanned and uploaded Faramir (see previous post); I never realised how blurry those tablet photos were.

Really looking forward to painting this. Haven't painted anything but small portraits in about two months!

Faramir

Finished on my workshop yesterday, as a skin and hair demo (and loose backgrounds). I still haven't pinned down /my/ Faramir 100%, but this is close. ;)

Camlann lineart

Got the lineart done on the train yesterday! Long live my Nomad.

Week's still not going well. I went to Northern Germany on Monday to see my brother, who was diagnosed with cancer last week. He lives alone, our parents live in Spain, and he was going crazy alone, and needed to be with someone who can handle his extremely quirky ways. Thankfully, we learned two days ago that, at least, the cancer hadn't spread, that his chances to be fully cured are good, and our parents arrived on Wednesday, s...

Out of town /mostly afk

I'll just stop saying that NOW I have time for art. Life doesn't seem to work that way in 2016.

A family emergency has happened, and I'll be out of town for a week. (The workshop will still happen as planned!)

Keep your loved ones close. Hugs!

Before the storm - sketch

Okay, after sending my address out to 105 people instead of one, and babbling away in German to unsuspecting Canadians, I'll take the chance and post some art today, in the hope nothing weirder will happen!

This will be another commission for Paul (remember his "Jenny Greenmere"?). Here she is standing on the field of Camlann with Arthur and his knights (one of them right now, anyway. For the guys on the horses, credit goes to the wonderful reenactors of Timetrotter - there was a huge reen...

Good-bye Mog

This piece had to be drawn first. :(

Our cat didn't come home yesterday, and then I found him in the front yard - unable to move his hind legs. He'd suffered some kind of stroke during the night, and all the vet could do for him was put him to sleep. ;_; I took him alone; hubby stayed home with the kids. I told them to stroke him before we went; still, they couldn't believe he was dead when I returned without him. First day of the holidays, too. They'd known him for literally all th...

Holidays! Email problems! Art!

Weird titles ahoy! ;)

Most importantly: School's out, and I'm on holiday! I'll get started on Paul's and Lilaer's pieces over the next few days. My email programme is causing trouble; I can't send or get any mails and it seems it's been chancy before that. I hope to solve this by next week, but in the meantime, ART. And getting myself back together. Last month was tough.

Raffle draw (and changes to the raffle)

Hi all, I'm really sorry for the very quiet June, especially after bragging I'd do #junicorn. I should have known that June is and always will be one of the worst months for art. I hope July will make up for it! One school week to go, but mainly barbecue parties, end of term conferences, field trip days, sponsored walk and sports day. Someone actually assigned me to Zumba. Me. To Zumba. I am skirting dangerously close to losing all of the respect that I've ever earned with students.

Kili for Tári

Sorry this took so long, Tári! I'll be colouring him today. I just love how he turned out.

I just finished marking the last stack of exams this weekend. Nine single exams will come on Thursday, but I'll survive those too. I'm sorry for the really slow month - May and June are always bad for art, and these have been particularly stressy. Hope to post a bit more - any maybe even pick up #junicorn again.

DIY watercolour kit

I made a little something! Doing this took 10 minutes. Waiting for the sun to shine to take nice photographs took all week. O_o

These boxes are *so* cool. In Germany, I get them at Rossmann, and they're actually meant as discreet smuggling boxes for --- sanitary towels. I only buy them because the boxes are so beautiful! Originally for my chalks at school, but they're useful for all sorts of things, even pencils and other stuff - exactly the right size, and absolutely great designs.
