Kylo mind-tricked me into proving that he can do that swoosh too. 

I loved the lightsabre fight in TFA. Visceral and vicious. Not like the portly ones from the OT or the ballet dances from the Prequels. 

Listening to Green Day for the necessary aggression factor.

(Please, Tolkien fans, bear with me for a little while more... I realise I'm keeping you in a state of frustration, but there's a few more Star Wars pieces I need to get out of system. :))

Level of swoosh: Fëanor

Kylo Ren may hold a candle to the swoosh that is Darth Vader, but he will never hold as much as a match to the swoosh that is Fëanor. 

Also, I am aware of and totally fine with the fact that Fëanor looks like Eddie Redmayne here. Eddie is an Elf. Come on,  that's a fact.

No, you don't get the wrapped sleeves. I tried to take them from Kylo, but he sort of looked at me like that and ignited his lightsabre, and I somehow had the feeling it might be unwise.

Rey

I love the fact that the Star Wars my daughter grows up with has Rey in it. 

And that it's also the Star Wars that my son grows up with. Though I did good work with him already; his favourite character so far was Padme.

I loved the last Rey sketch I did, but the layout and pose wouldn't have worked like that as soon as I elaborated more, so I decided on a different pose. 

I'll probably end up doing at least two more Star Wars pieces - this one, and finally, a good Finn. Right now, I can't say whether the stretch will last. If it does, I fear it might take the all-out path with fanfic and such, and I'm pretty sure I don't want to go there, haha.

Han Solo, coloured

I did it. Can't believe I got him. The last few times I tried (back in the nineties), it was a slaughter.

For those of you who have a copy of "Darkness over Cannae" and think that Han Solo looks a little like Servilius Geminus (p. 46), that's okay - because my dad looks a little like Harrison Ford! ;)

Okay, I know I told you I firmly believed he would look better in colour, but I lied. I didn't really believe he would. But he does!! Yayayay. 

Things I want to do before I die #421: Get a better Star Wars character likeness than Dave Dorman. Unlocked!

Han Solo

For a colleague of mine (for whom I already did Monny the Christmas monster). I know he totally doesn't look like Han right now, and I know it's the colours and the shadows. The lines are in the right places; it needs the shadows to become him. I already did some shading as, before that, it looked even less like him. Wish me luck. O_o

Young Ben Solo - Torn Apart

Commission for Deanna, who requested a young Ben Solo falling to the Dark Side. I was looking for reference pics last night and, haphazardly, entered "young Adam Driver" into Google. What came up was - high school yearbook photos of Adam Driver. O_o I felt rather surreal and just slightly creepy putting them into my "Kylo Ren" reference folder, but well, they did help. He looked so adorably dorky as a teenager.

Not completely happy with the effects here, and wonder whether I shouldn't just have called this finished at the time of the last wip shot I posted. Instead, I kept adding layers until it was a muddy mess. Well, I suppose that's what the Dark Side gets you.  This is a new attempt. 

EDIT: Re-uploaded with YET another new version. I actually painted this six times (three of which were pretty much finished). Boy, this one bothered me. But now I'm happy with it!

First Order officer (slightly panicked): Sir, we - ran out of them. We didn't anticipate the amounts of dark colours that would be needed when we ordered new art materials last month --

First Order officer (hastily): But we found some last bit of Moonglow in a squeezed-out tube for the time being.

Disembodied voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi: That's no Moonglow. It's Shadow Violet.

Another Saturday night. Those are dangerous. My only hope is that this paint takes so long to dry that I'll just go to bed instead of waiting, or I'll be sitting here at 3 AM again... (If it wasn't a quarter to midnight now, I'd use a hair-dryer.)

It's funny that I've never gone out of my way to go for an all-out traditional feel with much of my Tolkien art, but for Star Wars, I somehow feel that it's technical enough already. Most of the kick-ass SW art you see is digital, so I suppose I ...

I never fall for the baddies. Never ever. Messed up and conflicted, bring 'em on, but so far, I've stayed clear of total train wrecks.

I think I'll draw Feanor with a high collar from now on, haha!
