Here's Version 1.3 of Female Agent.  This version is a major update, adding a training mission in Scotland called Operation LIONESS.

Female Agent 1.3 P

Here's Female Agent version 1.3 P.  This is an improved version of the Beta, with most of the bugs fixed and some new content added.

This version has a "back" button, above the Agent's head, which can be used to back out of choices you didn't like.  Be careful with it, though, since using it can lead to weird results.

1.3 general release either today or tomorrow

1.3 is nearly ready.  I've got to fix 37 bugs, add some artwork, and tweak a few passages.

Depending on how long the bug hunt takes, 1.3 should be released either today or tomorrow.

Target down!

We hit $500 in monthly funding!  Thank you, all Patrons.  Without your support and encouragement, Female Agent would be months further back in development.

I promised that when we hit this milestone, I'd commit to regular scheduled development hours.  Starting next week, I'm going to produce a minimum of ten 25-minute Pomodoros per week (a Pomodoro is a time block of focused effort) purely focused on game development.

Updated bug fix version

Here's an updated version of the Beta, which fixes the game breaking taxi ride bug reported by Zachary Spear, S Pore and Cat.  Summary of fixes:

  • Fixed game breaking bug where the taxi ride home from Oceana always breaks.  (Cause: missing “ in code.)
  • Fixed a red error message in the passage where the agent is called for Miss Wet T-Shirt.  (Cause: incorrectly formatted closing tag.)

Moving to Tweego

Female Agent was built in the default Twine app, which is so user friendly and accessible that it's a brilliant cradle for ideas.

Now the game has more than 28,000 lines of code and 120,000 words, though, it's time to leave the cradle.  This week I migrated to Tweego, a command line compiler that's better suited to handling big, complex projects.

Beta bug fixes

Today I fixed a bunch of bugs reported in the Beta version.  The serious one still outstanding is that loads from saves can't progress through the backstage stripping scene at Oceana – I'm still working on this, as well as a couple of minor errors (like dialogue/decision links appearing twice in the options lists).

1.3 Beta version

This is not as polished as I wanted it to be, but it's 23:59 on Friday, so...here you go!  We added around 19,000 words over the past week, and there's still a lot to do.

There are lots of bugs and placeholder text still in this version, which we'll fix over the next week (in addition to just generally polishing the game).

Progress update

I just finished writing the “Oceana” scene, with a great deal of support from the lovely esclavage and the less lovely – but still highly useful – Dissonant Soundtrack.

This update is going to be a big one.  1.2.1P had 37,426 words and 257 images across 125 passages.  The current dev version of 1.3 (version 12) has 105,162 words and 372 images across 379 passages.

1.3 update: Scheduled Activities added

Just thought I'd share some new functionality: the game can now be told when in the future an activity will occur, and at that time and date introduce the activity into the story.

This is currently used for an event in the Oceana nightclub (which starts at a certain time), but has lots of applications for the future, from managing the agent's shifts at the brothel, to timed events in side quests, to arranging dates with NPCs.

1.3 status update

I’ve made a list of the outstanding tasks between now and the release of 1.3, and found that there are 23 things left to do.  Some of the tasks are small, but getting through all of them is going to take me a few more days at least.  :-( 

Sorry for the disappointing news, but I thought it was best to share exactly where I’m at.

I’ll update this post as and when tasks are completed, so you can see the release progressing.

I was really hoping to get 1.3 out before Christmas, but (as usual – sorry) I’m running behind schedule.  Here’s what’s complete, and what’s still left to do:

  • Plan and outline 1.3’s content
  • Create game clock and calendar
  • Add RPG stats
  • Set up a new Sex Engine environment (for Scotland)
  • Write more snippets for the Sex Engine

1.3 update: RPG skills added

(Current dev soundtrack: Take My Bones Away by Baroness)

1.3 will feature the addition of RPG skills for your character and NPCs.  Skills will be used by the Sex Engine (an agent with high bedroom skills will be able to satisfy clients more quickly) and in other scenes.

(Current dev soundtrack: When Doves Cry by Prince & The Revolution)

File this under "boring but necessary": Female Agent now has a working game clock, and can keep track of how long actions take.

We built this for 1.3 mainly so the game can keep track of how long your agent spends in certain planned mission locations – time may become a factor.

The clock also fully integrates with the Sex Engine, so sex scenes now work to the mission clock.  This isn't hugel...

Internal game documentation

The project is getting more complex, which means that systems need to be documented instead of just being kept in my head.  Here's a photo of the documentation for the sex scene in Dubai – it runs to 27 pages!

This was a really boring task, but now that it's done, making improvements to the Sex Engine will be quicker and easier.  This will be immediately useful for the Scotland section that's coming next.

Dev Poll #1 results

This week 43 Patrons voted on what to include in the next major update.  The choices were an extra sequence in Scotland (less content, faster release), or to push the game forward to Bangkok (more content, slower release).

After weighting Scotland was the winner, so that's now the development focus.  The plan is that, before she's sent on the mission, the Joint Task Force will have the agent seduce and sleep with a number of random civilians to prove...

Current task: documenting the Sex Engine

Right now the Sex Engine is quite basic, but I want to improve it in every release of Female Agent, so that all the sex scenes in the game get better and more interactive with each new version you play.

My next task is to clearly document all the existing options and variables.  (The code itself is quite arcane.)  This will make it simpler to add to in future.

Upgrading to HacknPlan

Female Agent is getting bigger and starting to attract a team!  It's time to take the game's project management seriously, so I'm setting up a HacknPlan account to manage all the "to dos".  This will make future development more efficient and manageable, especially as the game becomes more and more complex.

This is the public version of the game.  It's the same as the Patreon version, except that you can't make Agents bustier than a DD cup.
