Head base (WIP) for Megaplex

Working on a few head bases to sell at Megaplex. Printed, with primed noses so you can either paint or cover in fabric. Working on eyes which will be plastic and dye subbed. Teeth and tongue are already added. Will add ears as well. These will be ready to work on and will have 5 available at the con. Any that do not sell will be sold here after Megaplex.

Nash Bunny

Done as a side project to test shapes and a different type of ear style. Originally the head was meant to be casted and to have a mold I could replicate. The mold itself came out way too small so the idea was scrapped so this guy was carved. Teeth are currently temporary since I want to make big resin ones but the current ones work well. Stickers and pins

Tiger stickers have arrived and will be mailed tomorrow. Decided to get some tiger acrylic pins as well that will be available at Megaplex. Any of my left over stock of pins will be posted up here.

Bunny 🐰

So I was supposed to have used the bunny mold I had printed but overall the shape was too small for this person (wanted to avoid the pin headed look). So I carved a bunny to match the look I was after (forget how much longer hand carving the whole thing takes me with a busted wrist 🥲). Testing out a new technique for ears with fusible foam so I can get that smooth look on the Mochi. This bunny has a few tricks up their sleeve I will share once he’s done.

Fursuit Blueprints

Wanted to show how I usually send concept art to another maker when commissioning a suit. Might be a bit overly done in areas but rather show more than less. Usually blueprints like these make my life as a maker a whole lot easier.

Updates on general projects and what to expect

July is a busy month for me every year, and this year is no exception. Trying to wrap up a lot of projects before taking a much needed birthday break over a weekend. Finishing up a few suits in time for the event as well so a lot of things are happening all at once.

Snoot

Been working on an easy to follow pattern to make noses like these. Will be working on a step by step tutorial (more than likely doing it as a write up with photos) so you can make a nose similar to this one. You can make this type of nose in a variety of materials which is why I am so happy with the pattern. This specific nose is stuffed to create a light squishy nose. Dye sub print types - Does it matter?

Ever since I found out how much I could do with Dye Sub in general I have been excited to try it on as many non cotton materials as possible. I have been using vinyl flag mesh to create fursuit eyes which has worked out well enough with a few additions. Overall I still recommend it and decided to test out different print styles to see if I could deposit more ink onto the dye sub paper.

Working on glossy eyes for this commission. Not something I’ll do often since they take quite a bit of work. Loving the overall look of these so hard to not want to make more.

Nomad Sculpt / Sculpting on IOS

Nomad sculpt without a doubt is the best 3D sculpting app for IOS. It’s easy to learn and easy to export work to use in blender or Zbrush later on. The app constantly has updates and a really active community online. It works on older iPads as well which is a big plus. Working on another take on a canine but want to work on a different type of eye I can plug in separately and try doing a flocked eyelid area. Plan to give this base some visible teeth.

Waiting for red lines from the customer before I print the head mold. This time I’m making a kitty. Fully sculpted in Nomad Sculpt on the iPad.

VR/3D avatar updates

Wanted to update everyone on what is going on with VR/3D avatar updates. Currently putting the finishing touches on the Vseeface wolf avatar. Then getting him rigged and posted up to use. After that I am circling back to working on the cat avatar for VRC which I am slowly chipping away. I keep jumping from project to project so I circle back to the 3D that isn't for fursuits when I can and lately it has been a whole lot slower.

Dominik - What I tested on this head

These are a few of the new things I tried on this guy.

Eyes:

I wanted to do a kemono styled eye without the 3D look and smaller. I love the look of the kemono suits but they tend to be huge eyes also making the heads larger. I wanted to mix the look to create a glossy eye but closer to my art. Head has been completed ✅

Lots of new techniques in this head and happy most worked out well. Will take full shots soon and do a complete write up of everything tested. Happy to be done with this guy.

Glue work has begun

Learning a lot from this one and things I def want to tackle a bit different in the future. Overall sad the nose material is weaker than I was expecting so has a small crease from being rough with it while I glued it. Will more than likely have to alter the nose in the future if it gets too scuffed up. Eyes worked better than expected, building up the lid area and cleaning the eye edges (which is why it’s still messy). Dug out the eye duct section so the character does not look cross eyed f...

Fur pinned - WIP

Wanted to see the shape of the Fox with the fur pinned on. These eyes definitely got me thinking a bit differently but overall very happy. I’ll keep posting progress on this guy as soon as I update bits and pieces 🦊.

Second ear carved -WIP

Still a work in progress, 2nd ear is finally on, making sure it matches the first. I jumped on this project and took a break from doing the second ear right away which was a mistake. Took a whole lot longer to match but it’s finally on. Teeth and tongue are full sewn in, still thinking of a better process for next time. Going to add magnets in the nostrils to create removable nose rings (will be printing that in the resin printer ;). Will be adding the second eye today.

Collie dog 🐶 Auction

Collie will be up for auction next week. He will fit people up to 5 foot 11, 180 pounds at most and size 10 mens foot size. Head is one size fits most 😊

Plush Teeth

Wanted to try a different approach with sewing the teeth onto the head. Needless to say it took way too long to get this look and definitely want to try a faster approach next time. I cut small slits on the fleece and sewed it from the back, all the teeth are lightly stuffed and the material consists of "soft and stable" and white non stretch velour that has a shorter pile than minky.

Glossy Eye Tutorial

I started working with the glossy look a little while back but had some issues with the plastic creating bubbles against the printed surface. I took a break from the idea and went back to it again today and fixed the issue I was having before. So this is my step by step process on making glossy eyes like these.

Which foam casts would you like to buy this month?

Trying to offer new foam casts every month (usually end of the month) but wanted to see which ones people wanted. I have a few types and was curious which would you want to buy. I will be adding another canine to the mix and a bunny/house kitty.

Digitigrade W.I.P

Spent today building up the rest of the leg and pretty happy overall with it. Going to be thinning out some areas the the back but overall I am close to calling the sculpt done. Excited to extract pattern from this and see how it looks all together 🥰 I love to sculpt and carve but Florida has been extra toasty and working in the garage has been not ideal 😅
