Extras - Being Fiona - Issue 1 PDF

(EDIT: there was an issue with the PDF page order, I think I caught all the mistakes, but let me know if you catch any others)

And here's the PDF (attached below) of the first issue of the comic book version of Being Fiona!

To make the 3x3 panel grid work, I've converted a bunch of panels to 'widescreen,' redrew the line work for some panels that were doubled in size, and added a new panel on one of the pages.

So one problem with this conversation is now I feel like Felix's practice session tomorrow night for being Fiona needs to explore what else Sophie's trick can accomplish.

But on the other hand, I don't think Felix would want to do that, and Jess probably wouldn't be eager to trick Felix a second time.

So maybe Jess asks nicely?

Heart Guardians Part 16 - Panels 273-286

This was originally where chapter 16 was going to end, but I decided to add a few extra panels after this.

Jess: "Hey, don't blame me! Blame Sophie!"

Oh, and that thing about a fire? That's possible foreshadowing for a strip that will happen 300-400 strips from now. I originally had a different idea for how that particular event was going to happen, but this lets me foreshadow it way in advance. :D

Made a bunch of last minute changes to a lot of the dialogue in this strip, so there's bound to be a lot of typos.

Jess turning into an evil vampire in this strip is, in hindsight, quite fitting for how dangerous what she just did to Felix was (might add some dialogue to the next strip about one of them complaining what if there had been a fire or something like that in the real world).

(Edit: Changed Jess' dialogue in the last panel, she had said the same thing in strip 246).

So how obvious is it that in the second panel Felix is seeing both the real world and the vr world overlaying it at the same time? (He has his real and virtual eyes open both at once).

I had considered having Jess mention how weird it feels to do that, but it bogged things down, so I skipped that explanation.

Extras - Being Fiona - Next Steps

Alright! Now that it's finally been revealed that Felix has been in VR as Fiona all this time, I can talk about what is next in the comic without spoiling what just happened. This is a long post.

And Felix finally figures it out!

So, when I originally wrote this Felix as Fiona VR story arc, the narration from the Nori movie carried through half a dozen strips into Felix waking up as Fiona with Jess' and the game's influence on Felix's perception being a bit more obvious. I hope me instead stretching out the reveal until this point in the story wasn't too much!

I repeated the final panel from the last update since I made a minor change to it.

It appears the pixie route won by a mere 2%!

In writing this update, a solution for how to explain Otto's absence fell into place (originally this update was going to begin with Isabel sitting in a garden, and Otto as a pixie showing up, but now I have a new plan). So, before we get to pixie Otto, we are going to spend a little time with Wolf Otto!

Here's another update!

Ever since I started drawing Being Fiona, I've been toying around with what a print copy of Being Fiona might look like. For the longest time, I figured that if I ever did make a print version, I'd layout each strip in a 2x2 square and then split the 6 & 8 panel comics over two pages.

But then last week as an experiment, I decided to try placing two strips in an 3x3 panel layout with one panel split in two or widened into a double panel.

Out of curiosity, how clear was it that the speech bubbles in the second last panel were Scott's? I'm wondering if I should adjust it so that it's more clear that it was Scott replying to Cassie.

So, what was it that Jess actually found creepy?

So despite all my experiments with different colored speech bubbles to clarify who is speaking, I think I have to accept that using chibi heads, while potentially a lot more work, is the far superior and cuter solution. So to make things easier, I made a file where I can swap hair and expressions so that making each chibi is much faster (see the final image).

I was alternating between Felix being surprised that Jess might be her "best friend" or that they are "friends."

In Felix original reality, he and Jess are kind of the acquaintance level of friendship as in they are working on a group project together and Jess is helping Felix out with a problem. But they definitely aren't "hang out together" friends.
