As I already announced, I was fortunate enough to be invited to One Fantastic Week.
If you don't know it yet, it's a weekly web show where self-imployed fantasy artists talk about current business, creativity and the all-important question "How was your week?". They have over 200 episodes with an amazing line-up of guests who share their knowledge very openly. Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun painting backgrounds at the moment and I can't wait to jump into more detailed illustrations very soon. I'll be including the .PSD file for this in the next round of rewards (~3 June).
Also, I'll be making a mini tutorial on how to paint foliage - what colours to choose etc. :)

I'm working on the Knight of Wands now and I couldn't resist drawing a badass lady knight! With the last card, I was focusing on the background but with this one, I wanted to do a more detailed character design instead.

Guys, I'm exhausted. I've just spent all day on this illustration: From morning 'till 9 p.m.
But I did it! And I'm pretty happy with the result. It's the most complex image I have done in a while and I'm glad that I'm getting more comfortable with painting backgrounds.
I wanted to record the process, but Photoshop started lagging so much that I couldn't. But good news, I finally bought a proper desktop PC (yeah, I've been working on a laptop with a second monitor). So making videos...
I feel like this piece is pretty important for me, since I'm finally taking the plunge and I'm painting a more elaborate setting. I've always been avoiding detailed backgrounds because I couldn't figure out the perspective or I couldn't settle on a style. But they can tell so much story, even more so than the characters themselves. And I'm delighted to see that painting interiors isn't so bad. It's fun! This illustration went through so many changes until I finally settled on a colour scheme. I'm more comfortable with blues and purples than red/pink/orange, but I think it came out well.
