A Japanese Master Craftsman Taught Me To Make Senko Hanabi Fireworks

Usually I copy the video description into this box, but I just want to give a special thanks to all of you Patrons for supporting me. This video is the conclusion of a lifelong goal and it would not have happened without the encouragement I have received through the years. Thank you

Senko Hanabi Test Clip

This past summer I went to Japan to learn how to make senko hanabi sparklers from the world's foremost expert. Full video is pending (probably it will be finished in a few weeks) but in the meantime I thought I would share a preview of one of the sparklers I have learned to make.

A Real Invisibility Shield | How Does It Work?

In this video I explore the physics of an 'invisibility shield', otherwise known as a Lubor's Lens. You may have seen viral clips of this type of material attached to a riot shield, advertised for police and military applications to provide an effective (but not perfect) cloak in certain environments. This video explores how that technology works.

How to Build a Backyard Rollercoaster (for less than $500)

I'm calling this a 'how to' video, but really it's deeper than that. This is a dive into what it takes to design a backyard rollercoaster. I took a lot of inspiration for the style of this video from Destin at Smarter Every Day. Let me know what you think!

How Do These Fireworks Fly?

This video may be an example of my ability to make a simple concept complicated, but I'm sure if that's the case you'll set me straight in the comments.

Early release for Patrons! This video will go live to the public tomorrow.

Extraordinary Patterns of a Pendulum Wave

A few years ago when I made my first small model of a pendulum wave for YouTube, I also built a much larger one that I never showed on camera. This pendulum wave which starts with a pendulum of 1 meter in length was made as a larger scale demonstration for a kid's summer camp. The period of the series is 90 seconds which is much longer than most models, and allows a number of patterns to be seen that are not usually visible.

This video will be made public later today around 3pm EST. Hop...

DIY Salt-Water Survival Bottle (Compact Desalination Kit)

New video today! This is kind of an update to my previous desalination video using glass bottles. Where that video used an improvised setup, this one is made ahead of time in a form that's convenient to have on hand.

Also check out the new Community Video Response playlist on my channel page. I'm trying to recreate the video response feature from the early days of YouTube. Since video responses have been missing from the site it has felt a lot less like a community and more like channel...

Simple Bottle Rocket Launcher (Propane)

In this video I show how to make a super simple propane bottle launcher, especially good for demonstrations of the basic physics of rocketry. I've used this launcher myself for kid's science lessons with great success.

How to Make a Mini Sandblaster

This was a fun project to work on. I tried lots of different designs for the sandblaster, and in the end the simplest won out.

I left the title of this video pretty simplistic, not mentioning anything about how I use the sandblaster to dig fossils. If you have any better title ideas let me know! I'm trying to make the video appeal to as many people as possible and I figured the sandblaster aspect would be more of a draw than learning to prepare fossils. I haven't decided yet.

Bio Fuel Storage: Building A Gasometer

I hope you all like this video! Sorry for the delay since my last one, it feels like keeping my truck running has been a full time job this past month. Lots to do, so little time. I have one more video in editing about wood gassification and then a few more on other subjects coming up shortly after. In the coming months I'd really like to get an engine running on woodgas, and I think I've come up with a method to get the job done that's a lot easier than what has already been done by others.
