Omar and a city wisp

You might've seen this guy before.  It's a normal wisp but it hails from the long gone marshlands that Tistow's been built on. Urban cities might lack nature, but there'll always be children to protect.

Tistow synopsis: Papers, please

I'm glad to say that now that I've got a better computer, I feel a lot more comfortable sharing some of the promised script drafts with y'all.

This is a snippet from the very first chapter of the new main story. It's a more solid version of my ramblings written down by Mark. He's a contributor who's gone unmentioned for a very long time but he's the third author in our collaboration.

Please note that this draft contains no proper dialogue, we're gonna save that for later.

Fairy queen process breakdown + tips on this kind o'stuff!

In case you can't see this file the way you can't, it's available for download here. :3

This is something I've been working on a few days and we might want to make out prints of this one, and I thought I'd give you some personal tips about my favorite things to paint: Skin and things on faces.

Also, yeah, I know I have a little bit of a peculiar way of drawing a shape of an eye. I'm somewhat of an adorer of Yoshitaka Amano's work, you see.

Bottoms up - Page 34 preview

Welcome all new Patrons! Here's a little treat!

This is a preview of page 34, the bottom half of it.

Like in the past, the very first draft is by Karo. Second part is Elli's sketches on top as quick guidelines (except maybe Veeti, need him to look proper). The last set is of Elli's ink process, not quite done yet!

What do you think might be happening?

The grayscales and finally colours will define what's going on here, but the mushrooms are definitely up to something..

Complete Spritesheet for the platformer demo

(It's a very big file. You might want to consider downloading it if you want to take a very close look.)

And so, here are all of the sprite artwork made for the game!

Obviously there are BG artworks and other nitpick to be tended to, and I'm lacking my cutscenes. Therefore I am not quite ready to share this, frankly, very chaotically coded and pieced little game. I am being very bold sharing the files. But I'll do it because I like you a lot.

Monthly News Letter #6 01/04/2017

Spring comes, and now there is a Kickstarter.

This past month has passed by so quick, and a lot has happened!

As some of you know, Karoliina and Elli have been working with Aaron Sullivan for a comic project called Odie, which just kicked up it's own Kickstarter, which will run until May! We're hoping it goes through, and in case this is the first time you've not heard of it,2017-04-01 06:37:00 +0000 UTC View Post

Support wallpapers - April

We've got 3 different graphics for you in total! One of them which is a dual screen one.

Sketch requests - March - part 1

Part one! :D More to come.

We've got a bit of a personality swap at the top. Then Jack's.. ..Favourite past time in his favourite shapeshift.

Last one's of the boy's in a more modern setting in school uniforms. I'd say they're about 14-15 here. Jáhko's about to get detention. For a number of reasons.

Sketch requests!

We're taking sketch requests from all our Patrons! If you've got anything you'd like to see, just comment in this post. :3 We'll be posting all the drawn suggestions into one big post like last time.

Shaped by time

Oh I do believe this is one of those very rare sketches of adult Veeti in the realm of Tistow!

This one was actually drawn by Karoliina this time, since I do work on initial concepts of Veeti, which after Elli grabs the concept and polishes him into the Tistow presentation that is him. Just in case you were wondering that 'this looks odd' that's the reason. x3

Growing up

Hello! It's been a while since we've posted, but here's something for your patience~

We are currently working on a new layout for the Small Trolls website. There's lots of work to be done, and we're finally planning to make an about page for the website explaining the worls and area where our story resides, so look forward to that!

3D - Jack and Rat

First time using Blender and Sculptris! It'd be nice if I could finish them but the brave old laptop can't quite handle the details.

Really good fun learning to use these programs though! Would love to make more.

Stállu's pal

Slightly different looking hound from the one you've seen in the story so far. I can confirm that he's not the only one of its kind.

Challenge the Stállu

Stállu in Sápmi folklore is a giant human-like creature who eats people.  It's a clumsy and dumb beast who can easily be outwitted by humans. It's awfully fond of challenges that test its strength.

This might be an actual scene from an upcoming chapter. Just how the boys are gonna outwit him exactly, you'll have to wait to find out!

The word stállu or staalo can also be used to describe a troll or a giant. In Tistow however, he shouldn't be confused with his cousins made out of s...

Monthly News Letter #5 02/03/2017

February is over, and March peeks behind the curtains! Spring is making it's way. In Britain it's been rainy, and in Finland the skies are pushing an enormous amount of wet snow. Yes, it's that time when all the cars throw this brown slushy stuff 2 meters radius as they drive by and mess up your shoes.

Karo has spent the first of the three weeks at the Game Development course and has started her small demo project, and Elli has been hashing away at commissions. We also officially st...

Character Spritesheets done!

Auch! That's officially Jaakko and Veeti done then! And for those unfamiliar to the subject, this is what a sprite sheet looks like. Obviously not with a background like that since it's harder to clean up, ideally it'd be either transparent, or pure magenta, or something like that.

That's one major improvement so far! I still have a few graphical assets to make which I'll make over the weekend before actually transferring to the Unity Engine.

Small big forest things

Some props for the demostages! Some will need light animation and such, but so far, these will do quite nicely for background assets.

There is ONE more character I need to draw out, a few animations for Veeti I need to finish, and some background art. Probably the biggest work here. And... Then I should probably face my fears and delve into Unity and the world of code.

Also, yeah! Veeti is kinda little.

Rough stage presentation. What is it?

All right. Here is pretty much the conceptual image for the game. Now, I will let you ponder about what this weird mess of pieces if if you really want to, but I have a few, powerful words to say:

If you are a Maplestory player, especially old school, you know exactly what this is.

As long as this game will be the "Dark Souls of Jumping", I'm happy.

Oh I didn't mention it, right? This game is supposed to be, umm, what's the word... Oh! Torture. Or a chall...

Little 2D Platformer plans

Hullo!

Now, Karo has been talking about taking a game development course for a few months. The biggest thing of the course is that we all need to try and build some sort of a Demo, something worthwile to put on our CV's and apply for internships in game companies.

And here are the first props of my project. Some ground, some animation, and just to help me figure out the overall picture of the game's graphics.

More of this later when I get to make more!

Beth

More of this little girl.  The bottom right sketch is from Karo! ♥

When we first started talking about doing Tistow years and years ago, she was meant to be the main character over Jack and Loksley (Bowline Runners).  She was going to learn the ropes from the aforementioned two and a bunch of urchins and the main focus of the story was just that.

But we didn't want to go too Twist with the story so she got put on the shelf for a bit. Her role remains the same after all this t...

Woodcarver Dummy - Part 4

And here it's finished and fully rigged, enough to use as a reference to draw him in the comic pages. And in the future, this should be something I can start sculpting further in Zbrush. Therefore this model is left without textures and his trees and vegetation on his back.

You might see this model later in the future, once I have enough time to dig up Zbrush and start working on this project further. :3

Beth, Rat and soot

More Tistow stuff! This time we've got a wee girl called Beth.

She made a brief appearance in the original Tistow story as a flower girl, but we've since changed her age and looks slightly. She continues to be the character who'll introduce the reader to the life of the urchins.

Beth's one of the children who can still see wisps. Due to their sooty appearence, wisps are quite scary figures to kids. Beth, however, is not afraid of them and even helps them by keeping a little secret garden...

Wisps in the city - what nature

More concept art!

Wisps need something to care for. So any plant, flower and even rotten fruit gets smothered in attention. You could say they go a bit loopy because of this as there's not enough flora to go around for them all to look after.

This particular scene is from the time when Jack first arrived in Tistow and discovered some wisps grouped together trying to revive some weeds.
