Extra-dimensional pseudo-feline entity

An elemental entity commissioned by generous patron S.

In the words of their creator, these creatures "have no real organs; instead possessing a reservoir of liquid magic that extends below from the brain cavity in their skull, which is their only bone..."

Accordingly, I drew the body in water-soluble ink, and sprayed it with alcohol to give it a plasma-like look.

These were the patron's original templates for this creature; I was told that the face was "not a mask....

"Alien-ified" pet cats for a patron

I turned the pet sphinx cats of generous patron K. C. into alien-like weird tetrapods. The first one became a peaceable herbivore;

While the second, naughtier one became a vicious, leaping predator, reminiscent of the Daggerwrists from Wayne Barlowe's "Expedition"

All aliens I've designed for Robert Reed's "Great Ship" universe so far

These works could potentially be the beginning of a "field guide" to this incredible universe!

"Dawsheen" race from Robert Reed's "Great Ship" universe

Commissioned by generous patron J. M. - the latest on an ongoing series. These aliens exist in a world of life-scraping ice ages, and their queens (see background figure) act as literal bunkers for all life on their world - to shelter in.

"Cooperation brought the greatest successes. The early queens were ensembles: Species hiding together in the largest, most secure redoubts, existing as totipotent spores and fertilized eggs along with a dowry of mummified bodies and dried shit ...

Street cafe-figure studies from December 2024

More excerpts from one of my favourite forms of artistic exercise... It's very hard to get human figures "right"... but after you get the hang of it, it's also hard to make them look "wrong".

Creature art commission study methodology

Here is a brief outline of how I create commissions. In this case, I'll be sampling from a recent creature I am drawing from one of you, gen

First, the patron sends me his/her outline - or ideas. This can be in text form, but in this case we had sketches to work with:
(NOT my artwork - belongs to my patron C.-)

Based on this, I first prepare several "mannerist" sketc...

Figure drawing at a local cafe

Today I just took two pens and a few sheets of paper, and had a long, cozy sketching session at a local cafe. Drawing people from a few glimpses snapped up as they are moving, walking, is a great challenge. Observing real life really "opens up" one's skills for surreal and fantastic drawings later on...
Thank you all for your support on Patreon and beyond - your contributions made today's sketch session possible!

Snaiad: Canonising a fan-made creature

I don't reveal much, but work on Snaiad is continuing non-stop. As in the old Snaiad, I am also "canonising" certain fan-sent creature concepts. Here are the male and female genders of Golombotherium bobrowiczi - created by my good online friend Jakub Bobrowicz. His original drawing can be seen on the upper-right-hand side.

Golombotherium is a hulking, warm-blooded...
