"Chords For The Haters" (Chord Diagrams + Tab)

Chords for anybody who's feeling angry! Jokes aside, these are some really great chords for creating a brooding vibe. I tap into a lot of #11's and 9th sounds. As for the progression, it's mostly centred on G#mi, but will sometimes shift focus to somewhere between that and E Lydian. Finally, I tried to tap into more chromatic harmony that I usually do.

Shred Arpeggios In DAEAC#E

Some fairy easy fingerings that will help you to play some fast sounding arpeggios in DAEAC#E tuning. These are pretty nice in that they are designed in a scalar way (multiple notes on one string) which will help you to learn the note in relation to specific chords. Also, this stuff is easier to play in DAEAC#E than it is in standard.

Tapping Concepts - An Outline

Hey everybody, here's a document that covers as many general tapping concepts / techniques as I can think of. In the 'Outline' document I go over 18 concepts, from basic ideas like tapping into open notes, to more advanced stuff like double stops, slides, and taps without pull-offs. I tried to keep the exercises relatively simple as it's more about the ideas than anything else.

Also, with all of these, a big part of making them more interesting is experimenting with how you can arrange ...

New Music!

Hey everybody, sorry for the delay on posts this month. Finals season has arrived meaning I've got more on my plate than normal. That being said, the cool thing about going to music school is that your assignments are musical. Here's something I wrote for an advanced rhythm studies class.

This piece involves polyrhythms of 5 against 4 against 3, superimpositions, changing meters while keeping the beat constant, and other cool jazz. Hope you like it! I'm going to expand on this song and ...

Diatonic 5ths + 6ths In G Major

E+A String Spread Triads

Spread triads are a really nice voicing for guitar. They sound a lot more colourful and interesting than your average triad voicing. The reason being that the voicing is well spaced out. These shapes are best played with hybrid picking, or as arpeggios. As a fun exercise, you can take a pop song chord progression and play it with spread triads.

All Star, But It's Cool Math Rock Riffs (Guitar Tabs)

Hey everyone, here's an original arrangement of the Smashmouth song "All Star". This arrangement is a lot of fun to play! It's very riffy, but it's still based on the original chord progression of I-V-ii-IV. However, I've harmonized the vocal melody with lots of jazzy / mathy chords. Hope you like it and have fun learning it!

Cheers,

Beat Strengthening Exercises

Hey everyone, here's a series of rhythm exercises. I've created these to help you guys strengthen your beat / sense of pulse. Something that seems to lack with some players, is the ability to tap their feet / perceive the pulse while playing. When this happens, it ends up making the players rhythmic confidence weak.

Therefore, in this document you'll find exercises that force you to tap your feet against a variety of syncopated rhythms. This includes simple stuff at the 8th note divisio...

E+A String Shell Voicing Licks And Exercises (Beginner-Intermediate Level)

Hey everybody,

I've created a document covering a lot of my lick vocabulary based around shell voicings. These are really important to learn as they will help orient you on the fretboard and they will also give you some ideas about how I connect chords together.

Essentially, each exercise is based on a series of shell voicings. Therefore, the chords that are used in the licks are given prior to each exercise. Try to see the relationship between the chord shapes, and the arrangemen...

'Baby's First Emo Riff' (Guitar Tab)

Drop 3 + 2, 7th Chords. All Voicings, Root Position + Inversions

As the title says. This is another foundational set of chords for standard tuning guitar. While I've included all of the voicings for 7th chords, I would primary focus on learning the root position shapes + Major and Minor 7th inversions. The dominant 7th and mi7b5 chords are not really used in this style, but I included them anyways for the sake of being thorough.
