Invite cap raised

During strange and challenging times, doing something creative together has the power to lift our spirits. It's for this reason I'm raising the invite cap to 50 per person. Invite your friends and make something cool! Hang in there, peeps!

Last day at work; starting FT on LK tomorrow!

Nothing new to update; just wanted to celebrate my official transition to full-time on LegendKeeper, starting tomorrow.

Thank you so much for your support (many of you for over a year)! I wouldn’t be able to do this without you. Let’s make something great!

What's coming in the Fates mega-update.

Hey folks! I appreciate your patience while this update is in development. I'm in the last two weeks of my dayjob, and we're launching a huge update to our 300K+ user dating app today and tomorrow. (Though I'm not sure how much dating is gonna be done over the next few weeks...) COVID19 has locked down our office in Dallas, and I had to work on my employer's app over the weekend. So needless to say the past few days have been kinda insane. I hope you are staying safe and healthy and making go...

Big news for LegendKeeper!

Thanks to your unwavering support over the past year+, I’m proud to announce I’m quitting my job to work on LegendKeeper full-time.

LegendKeeper has been my passion project for the past couple years, working nights and weekends to make my dream tool for RPGs and worldbuilding. With your feedback, we’ve built a really cool application, but I’ve always known we could push it to greater heights.

A little bit about me: For the last few years, I’ve worked for...

What are you most looking forward to?

Thank you for your patience while I code away on the Fates update. It’s become the largest update to date and will bring a huge amount of professional polish to LegendKeeper, just in time for open beta. ;p I worked for 30 or so hours this weekend and got a ton done, but there’s still a good chunk of things left to do.

While we wait, I’d like to check in with the community and get a pulse on things. If you’ve been around for a while, you’ve probably heard of various...

Dev Update

Hey peeps! Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day.

I am hard at work on the next major update, codename “Fates”. This is a big update intended to make LK open-beta-ready. It includes a brand new UI, built from the ground up with our new UI library, LegendKit. It also includes a new editor with greatly improved table and text editing. The editor is baked into the UI itself, so no more opening dialogs to edit things; you’ll be able to edit everything in-place. View Post

Build 186 back in action.

Thanks for your patience!

Build 186 reverted while I work out some bugs.

Stay tuned.

Build 186: Duplicate and Restore

Duplicate

You can now duplicate articles via the Context Menu. A duplicated article has its contents and markers duplicated, and the same map and image assigned to it.

Known Issues:

* Child articles aren't duplicated along with it.

* Duplicating takes a second and there's no visual indication anything is happening.

* Article blocks like the subpage index refer to the original article rather than the duplicate. For now, simply erase ...

Dev Update

Allo patrons! Just wanted to give a small blurb on what we’re up to since there wasn’t a major update this weekend.

LK has evolved a lot since it was a hobby project, and though the UI looks decent, it’s still a hodgepodge of styles and constructs that aren’t 100% consistent. Justin and I have been scouring the entire app, revamping styles and making them more consistent in preparation for open beta. The new UI is looking really nice so far, but since it’s a holist...

Build 178: Hide articles, tag filtering, map pins

This change is the first of a few updates intended to streamline access control in LegendKeeper. The permissions system is powerful, but unwieldy, and we'd like to offer some one-click solutions for common scenarios.

Show and Hide

Admins can click the eye icon in the wiki sidebar to hide an article. A hidden article and its sub-articles are only visible to admins, no matter what  permissions are set to. This is the "just hi...

Build 173: "Elemental"

Project Activity Log

Projects now have a global activity log that gives you an overview of what's happening. It's simple right now, and only supports a few events, (Create article, edit article, delete article, join project, leave project). It will be extended with more, richer event types, such as "Move", "Reveal", "Pin", etc.

It'll be verbose at first; we're pondering over ways to aggregate similar activities and filter the feed to find activity relevant to you....

LegendKeeper in 2020

Over a year ago, I posted this GIF on a subreddit called /r/worldbuilding. At the time, I had been working on a little hobby project called LegendKeeper. I figured, hey, maybe other people will think this cool, too.

An hour later, a friend texts me, saying they saw LegendKeeper on the front page of Reddit. My phone starts lighting up as over half a million people descend upon that post, leaving...

Build 170

* Increased login session time.

* Failed logins now give more specific error messages and advice for moving forward.

* Cross-session login attempts now use a styled dialog box with email validation rather than the ugly default browser alert.

Build 169: Temporary new user onboarding

Since LK has had some major updates, I figured it was time to revamp some of the onboarding stuff. I re-implemented the "help" tab with some descriptions of new features, and added a brief "tour" to the app that hits the ulra-high points. Additionally, new projects come with the Sharedlandia maps baked in.

This onboarding is just a placeholder until public beta. I've been getting lot...

Build 165: Tree Interactions

I revamped the mechanics of the tree drag and drop; this way it's easier to see where you're dropping things, and it's faster because there's no visual latency introduced by a swap animation. Win win! I've also re-enabled the "drag over to open folder" feature.

Working on wiki tree UX

The new wiki tree, while much more performant, is a little unintuitive when it comes to indicating where your dragged item is going to drop. I'm working on some better interactions for it now.

Keep the bug reports and feedback coming! :D

Build 154: Performance Boost! ⚡🐉

  • Increase wiki tree performance and eliminate slowdown caused by number of articles in project.
  • Fix memory leak causing severe performance drop after using the app for a while.
  • Increase shortcut limit to 5.
  • Enhance main sidebar to remember its collapse state and width between refreshes and page navigations.

The tree performance boost took a lot of code changes; let me know if you see any UI jank or weird behavior.

What I'm working on now...

Hey peeps! Hope the bug fixes smooth out your new wiki experience!

I'm noticing the new drag and drop engine, while elegant, has some performance issues for very large projects that the previous library did not.

I'm currently working on smoothing out the performance; it's important to me that LK remains a slick, no-lag experience, and the current build isn't meeting my standards. I'll have some fixes out soon! It's perfectly usable in the meantime; I just need it to be **sex...

Build 148: "Dragon" 🐉

Rawr! Big update for the wiki! This ended up being more complex than I expected. The original plan was to remove categories, but after doing so, LK felt kinda... lame. So we did something different! Keep in mind, there will be bugs, and the UI is not final.

Introducing "Shortcuts", similar to categories, but much more customizable:

Drag an article to the shortcut bar to organize your articles at a high level. Shortcuts are subject to permission ru...

Welcome, new patrons! Regarding LK maintenance...

Just FYI, you've caught me at an awkward time; been doing heavy maintenance on LK the past couple days for a new update. LegendKeeper is currently down and it's likely you haven't received your invites yet! Sorry about that! Give me a day or so to get everything cleared up. I'll try to get invites out tonight if the current maintenance period goes well.

Thank you so much for your support!

Some notes regarding upcoming upgrade, "Dragon".

Hello folks! I'm currently putting the finishing touches on the migration script to upgrade your LegendKeeper projects from named release "Cerberus", to named release "Dragon". This update merges categories (Places, Beings, Item, Abilities, Codex) and the story feature into one big wiki, and brings custom categories/shortcuts and custom ordering.

If all goes according to plan today, I will be thoroughly testing the migration script in pre-production all day, and temporarily taki...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to you Americans and anyone else celebrating. I'm thankful for your support :D

I've been working all week on the revamp of the Wiki and its sideabr. As you may know, we're getting rid of the categories system. The plan was just to remove it, but once we did, LK felt a little less sparkly than it did before.

We decided to take another crack at it, and came up with a flexible "custom-category-esque" system we're calling "Shortcuts" that's visually identical ...

Team LegendKeeper officially grows.

The UI/UX powerhouse behind LegendKeeper is a product and graphic design expert named Justin, with whom I've been working for a while now. Justin's ability to create intuitive design systems and guide the overall design and experience of the app has been indispensable over the past year. We are both incredibly excited about LK---in it's current form, and what we think it can become.

I'm proud to announce that Justin has come onboard as a full co-founder of LegendKeeper. Unofficial...

The Great Slim-Down

Hey peeps! On a three-day weekend, hoping to get a bunch done. :)

TL;DR:

  • Custom ordering coming to Wiki.
  • Categories going away, nest everything everywhere.
  • Story tab being merged into wiki, stories will start with No Access perm by default for privacy.

Just wanted to give warning of an upcoming change: after much discussion and looking at user analytics, the Categories (Places, Beings, Items, and Abilities) are being removed, and t...

Build 144: In-App Announcements and Feedback

Introducing the new Announcements system! I'll be able to broadcast build notes and important announcements directly into the application now.

Feedback

The feedback system now allows you to submit requests, browse and search all existing requests, and upvote the ones you like! I can also mark requests as In Progress and Completed, creating a nice roadmap display.

Build 143: Images and Avatars

  • The image manager no longer tries to load images at full resolution (yikes!)

  • Image crops are now per-article rather than per-image. Changing a crop in one article image will no longer change it in other places. If you cropped an image in the last 24 hours, this update might have reset your crop values. Sorry for the inconvience!

  • You can now set a profile avatar. Yay basics!

🎉🎉🎉 Thank you so much! 🎉🎉🎉

We reached the maximum goal! We've done this before, but this time it's through wizard tier pledges alone! I'm continually blown away by this supportive and awesome community. I hope everyone is enjoying LegendKeeper as we march towards 1.0.

So what happens now? Well, I need to start thinking of lyrics for the music video. I should probably make a new goal for good measure; I've got a few ideas but am open to suggestions. There's one really big goal I'm thinking of, but I can't speak to...
