Hi patrons!

Here is a free bonus: a 1h46min video tutorial commented on Youtube. ★

Why? Just after finishing the episode 18 of Pepper&Carrot in the start of August 2016, I had a little week of holidays at the mountain. I usually spend my time on holidays to do plenty of drawing on my sketchbook, draft new ideas, invent new characters, create new storyboard, etc... But this time, nothing! Nothin...

Bonus: Pencil artwork of the 'School of Hippiah'

Hi patrons! I'm already working on the future episode 18 and this time I wanted to work on a special episode featuring Pepper as a children. I built my story around a 'flashback' to be able to show the past. This flashback and story structure was inspired by a proposed scenario : "Visit from Hippiah" by Craig Maloney.  My derivative result is now far from his story due to many r...

Work in progress episode 17

Hi Patrons, as you can see on the picture in attachment, the future episode 17 is taking shape. Description of the three steps; from top to bottom:

1. Pencil step: I made my pencil step knowing all the lines will disappear totally under the 'painting' step. So, I took freedom to do little crosshatching, greying areas and not focusing too much on proportions, technique or creating clean lines. I felt a bit like if I was drawing on my sketchbook and that...

Penciling episode 17

Hi Patrons! Here is a bonus update about the future episode 17.

On the picture in attachement, you can see on the top a photo of my desk while penciling the first page. A part of the storyboard of episode 17 is also visible on this photo. Under the photo, I pasted the three first pages as they are today on my disk ( but without speech-bubbles ). The last panel of the picture in attachement shows a scene with the 'Phanda'. This creature was created with the help of the audie...

Episode 16 : The Sage of the Mountain

Hi patrons! After a very intensive production time, I'm happy to release the episode 16 "The Sage of the Mountain". In this new episode, I tried to produce a visual direction more looking like an animation ; with painted landscape and almost thin line cell-shaded characters. A challenge! The episode features Saffron, Thyme, Cayenne and of course Pepper and Carrot. Also, 16 translations are available at release, thanks to the very active and lovely translation-team <3

Bonus: making-of 3D paint-over

Hi patrons! Here is a montage of screenshots and artworks done on the production of the future episodes 16. It's not commented, but it's a classic step-by-step from top to bottom with the usage of 3D in the workflow : storyboard, concept-art, 3D modeling, rendering, sketch, line-art, base color, and 3D paint-over... I'm happy with the result, and with the possibility of the technique to produce high-quality landscape. Do you remember Saffron? The rich witch of Komona? She will be featured in the...

Spring cleaning and update

Hi Patrons! Last week, I was in a trip to my far-away family living at around 2300km/1400mi from here. I took advantage of this period far from home to write many new ideas. This week, I'm back home with my notes, sketches and a lot of energy to clean and update everything(*). That's what I'm experiencing now :-)

Episode 15 : The Crystal Ball

Hi patrons,  I just posted the new episode online! Episode 15 :  'The Crystal Ball'. It's a 'no-speech-bubble' episode as I did in previous episode 5 (Special holiday in snowball) and episode 10 (seaside holidays with big fish). 5, 10 and now 15; I think I'm starting a pattern!

Weekly bonus: drawing of episode 15

Hi patrons! I'll start next week to color and paint the future episode 15. Now, many drawings are ready and I wanted to share a little sample of them in attachement (shuffled, cropped, zoomed, framed differently; for no spoilers). As you can see, this episode turns around Pepper, Carrot, Thyme (the older witch) and a mysterious crystal ball.

I made all drawing using Krita 2.9.11 on my good old Intuos3 A4 tablet (10y/o this year). I also improved my pencils-presets for Krita, I'll share my upda...

Weekly bonus & news

Hi patrons! This week I worked as a teacher (Krita and digital-painting) in Brussels,Belgium and it was good for inspiration to travel a week away from my home studio. Hi Patrons! Here is a commented timelapse video,  practicing and reviewing my digital-drawing/lineart skill. The theme: Pepper, Coriander, Shichimi and Saffron. In this video I'm giving tips about the 'Stabilizer', about the tool-option as a button and about line-weight in general. The timelapse stop when all characters are 'inked'. I'll probably do not colorize this artwork as I did it only to practice drawing and I'm keeping production on future episode 15 ( for March ). If you want to co...

Weekly Bonus #34

Hi Patrons! For once, my 'weekly bonus' is a short one (and a late one) because this week I had (and I still have) the flu. It's not easy to be productive in this context, so I do slow progress and keep all the few time I'm awake to draw on future episode 15.  The picture in attachment is a photo of my desk, as it is this morning with sketches and drawing for future episode 15. In this future episode, Pepper does a wide range of facial expressions and has a very precise acting. I have ...

Video tutorial bonus

Hi patrons! Here is a new video tutorial about the creation of brushes (stamps/stencils) in Krita. I often create brushes 'on the fly' when I have to paint something repetitive (small rocks, bubbles, leaves, herbs, etc... ). It's easy and quick to create this type of brushes with the right method. With this video, I hope I'll share this knowledge. Have a good week!
