I Moved My Presentation Area and Made a Wood Shop!
Hello! I'm going on a mental health vacation for a few weeks. When will I start making videos again? I don't know, but not until I'm good and ready. What's going on? You may have noticed I've already been quite absent lately. I'm on anti-depressants now, and I just need some time to get back to normal.
In addition, I'll be changing my Patreon model from monthly to a 'per creation' basis after the first of next month. I've simply been too absent to charge you all every month. In th...

You may have noticed I've been a bit absent. Or maybe you didn't. Either way, I've slowed way down on the video output lately, and this trend will continue for roughly the next month. Why? I've had and will continue to have a large number of personal life events lately that are "getting in the way" of video making. It's really that simple. As an added bonus, it's nice to take a step back every now and again to prevent the ever-feared burnout. It's not like I'm taking a break, there's a video ...

The Wheego had some things to fix before it would pass its first ever safety inspection. Did I fix them? Yes. Yes I did.
As a side note, this was the highest effort low effort vlog I've done yet. You'll notice, however, that I didn't bother retaking lines. I just left in all of my speech stumbles for your enjoyment. This probably could've been a mini project video on its own, but I didn't know how much work I was going to do before starting. The amount of work I put into the car also me...
2019-05-15 18:19:16 +0000 UTC View PostI've gone through and made some changes to the Aging Wheels Patreon page that I thought I should share with you, my patrons, before one of you notices and thinks I'm trying to pull a fast one.
First off, I quite literally moved the goal post on my one and only Patreon goal. When I setup the Wabant project as my Patreon goal, I estimated Patreon would account for roughly 25% of my income, so I set the goal amount accordingly. Well, Patreon actually accounts for 50-60% of my income now. I...

It has begun! I have stripped down the bus to its bare bones in order to see how to continue further. This is, as the title suggests, the easy part. After this span of undoing screws I'll have to put some real thought into my next steps. Anybody have a small crane I can borrow?
Also, despite this being a 13 minute video, this is roughly seven days worth of work.

Yes, that's right. I bought a clapped out Durango to abuse until it can take abuse no longer. Aside from the bigger, better destruction review I have planned, I also have several "instructional" videos planned for it. Have suggestions of things you'd like to see me do with this Durango before I give it a big send off? Let me know!

A lot has changed in my life since the beginning of this project. It probably would've only taken me a month if I wasn't separated from my parts supply by an ocean, half a continent, and a language. And yet, here we are. The Trabant runs like new now (probably), and I couldn't be happier about it. I know it's an awful car, but it's my awful car.
The Trabant is done! The video is not. I'll give patrons early access to the video once it's finished, but the rest of the world will see it next Thursday.
Spoiler Alert: It runs beautifully now. Well, for a Trabant.

The Trabant's engine is now fully reassembled, and it is 90% new parts by weight.

This is my F-150 and the story behind it. And some weird skit about brand loyalty that should've probably gone in a different video.

Why yes, it is April 1st. Thank you for noticing

Question time! Should I release this short and dumpy video to the public or just leave it here for patron's eyes only? I'd like to make these low effort vlog videos occasionally to supplement my normal videos without taking away any of the production time, but this one feels a little too low effort. Let me know what you think.

I've been talking about it and planning it for too long. It was about time to make this dream a reality.

This week it's something completely different. I had a lot go wrong with the Trabant engine rebuild and not enough time to make a video proper, so I made one of these low effort update videos people keep asking for. Don't worry. This won't happen very often. It's back to a 'normal' video next week.

I had to make a couple changes to the original video. I wasn't happy with my lack of sprag clutch explanations in the first published video, so I went out, bought a Wacom drawing tablet, spent several hours figuring out some free animation software, spent another several hours drawing the sprag clutch animations (poorly), incorporated them into the final video with voiceover explanations, took down the original video, and posted the new one. And then I discovered the Trabant's freewh...

And now for something completely different. I told you I was going to do what I wanted.
Don't worry. The next video will be car related again.
2019-02-22 15:01:59 +0000 UTC View PostI couldn't have imagined this level of increased support from my little announcement. What is it, like 50 new people since yesterday? That's unbelievable!
I glossed over this in the last post, but I wanted to elaborate more on my plans for the next couple of weeks so everyone knows what's going on. I'm currently in the process of building a work bench (okay, four of them) for the Tavarish shop. I'm not sure when the video from this will be out. Next week I'm going on vacation! Oka...

Hello Patrons,
Since I already announced this to you, I'll give you an idea of my future project/video plans. The first thing on my list is to build a work bench for the Tavarish shop. I offered to do this several months ago because it sounded like a fun idea. After that, it's time to continue the long-delayed Trabant project. I'm taking a trip to Florida (to deliver my old Saab to its new owner and deliver the work bench), so the Trabant project will begin after I get back from that tr...

On a whim, I went for a very short drive in the snow using the Wheego. This was just as pointless as it sounds, but it made for a quick little laugh and a quick little extra content video. Enjoy! Or don't. I'm not the boss of you.

I owe you lot an explanation. In December, I told you I would be taking a little videological break for a little bit to focus on some projects. Well, now that's it's January, I'm back with another excuse! My schedule will be hit or miss for a while. Approximately until February rolls around. Why's that? Because at the end of the month (hopefully) I'll be quitting my job to focus on Youtube full time! Yes!
As the biggest and riskiest change of my life approaches, I've been nei...

As Christmas time draws near, I've shifted my focus to a little woodworking project for a Christmas gift. Rather than rush out any haphazard videos, I've just decided to hold off until next year. Speaking of, I should have some rather exciting news shortly after the first of the year. Fingers crossed!
If you're curious, I have a few minor Trabant parts arriving in a few weeks, but the big engine parts won't arrive until the end of January. It's almost like they have to cross an ocean or someth...

I begin the rebuild of the Trabant's meager two cylinder engine starting with the removal and teardown. I discover the engine condition is better than I thought in some ways, but mostly worse.
As a side note, the simplicity of this car makes it an absolute joy to work on.
This video is more than a little bit ridiculous, and I felt more than a little bit ridiculous while filming it. If you like it, great! If you hate it, please don't hurt me. There will be a much more normal video out soon enough.
If you're not familiar, this is Tavarish's current and Hoovie's former fire damaged Ferrari. I trailered it from Kansas to Florida to deliver it from one youtuber to the other. I had the option to make a video with any of Tavarish's cars while I was in Florida, so natu...

It was exceedingly hot in my shop all summer. This was irritating and prevented me from doing things. To combat this problem, I spent thousands of dollars making my shop climate controlled. I don't have any fun money leftover after these renovations, but I could not be happier with the results. My shop is quite literally more comfortable than my house now.
