BONUS: The Making of the dotnet95 Video (Appendix B)

At long last, here's the behind-the-scenes/second appendix detailing the making of the .NET video. Hope you find it interesting!

Wii U Gamepad Clone - Development Vlog 5

This month was a lot of research and reworking. I think we're getting close to achieving our main goal but there are still some hurdles and uncertainties that we'll have to conquer first.

Forgive the poor microphone quality in this update, I'm currently out of town filming for a different video, but still wanted to get an update out as soon as possible. As always, thanks for supporting and I hope to have some more exciting news soon!

Next Video Update (August 2024)

You guys know that I'm working on an open source clone of the Wii U gamepad, but in the background I've also been working on a handful of other projects that I haven't talked about yet.

This is one of them: the next major video. Yes, it's another monstrosity that'll be somewhere between 40-60 minutes, though this one won't be much like the .NET video (there are no extended comedy sketches in this one). I don't want to spoil too much yet, and I can't say for sure when it'll be done, but ...

Wii U Gamepad Clone - Development Vlog 4

Vanilla is slowly but surely making the leap to other platforms! It won't be long until we start seeing this on phones and, with any luck, the Nintendo Switch without additional hardware soon.

Hope you enjoy the update!

Wii U Gamepad Development Vlog 3

Hey everyone, so this is a really quick update for you guys. Just wanted to talk about some stuff I've added to Vanilla, a few things I've learned along the way, and a few things I'm thinking of pursuing next. This is a relatively short video, but don't worry, I'll have a lot to talk about in the next update!

Wii U Gamepad Clone - Development Vlog 2

Progress has been made! You can officially play the Wii U gamepad on a Linux setup easier and better than ever before!

Of course, this is not the end goal of this project, and hopefully we'll be seeing this on phones very soon. However this already opens the door to the Raspberry Pi, Steam Deck, and Nintendo Switch (if modded and running Linux), which are all potentially very valuable. So far I've only tried the Pi, but if you have either of the other devices and want to give it a try, ...

BONUS: Revisiting my old studio in my family home

Here's a quick video I filmed while I was in Australia back in March, enjoy!

I'm of course still working on Wii U related shenanigans in the background, and should have another dev vlog for you by the end of next week!

Wii U Gamepad Clone - Development Vlog 1

Let's get started!

I hope you enjoy the first dev vlog. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know in the comments and I'll get to them either as a reply or in the next vlog in a week or two's time. See you soon!

EARLY ACCESS: What am I doing next?

The people have spoken! Thanks to you guys, this is what my next long-term project is going to be.

I am planning to post this video publicly too so I don't simply disappear for a few months again, but all future gamepad-clone-development videos will be Patreon-exclusive (until the project is over and I make the final video at the end). I hope you're looking forward to it as much as I am!

BONUS: dotnet95 Technical Details and Q&A (Appendix A)

This is the first (of hopefully many) Patreon bonus videos I'll be putting out in the near future, here to provide some more technical detail on dotnet95 and answer some of your questions!

Got any questions about dotnet95?

Hey! Thank you guys so much for all of the kind words on the new video (and thanks to everyone who gave me feedback along the way, it really helped!)

I'll be starting work on some bonus Patreon-exclusive "appendices" soon covering both the dotnet95 project and the video itself, and I'd love to open the floor to you guys: do you have any questions you'd like me to answer or specifics you want me to cover? Lemme know in the comments and I'll try to address everything!

EARLY ACCESS: The final cut (probably) of "I ported THOUSANDS of apps to Windows 95"

Finally, here it is: the finished version of the dotnet95 video! This should be the video that goes out on YouTube, assuming I don't find anything else glaringly wrong with the export.

If you've already watched the prior drafts, there's nothing majorly different about this version so no need to watch it again, though there are a lot of little changes that I think make the video better (fixed several audio issues, tightened up the overall edit/flow, added end credits, f...

✨ March 2024 Poll: What should my next project be? ✨

As my current video reaches completion, I'm looking at what I should focus my attention on next. I've learned over the past few years that I much prefer doing bigger projects that I can sink my teeth into, and I figure since Patreon is what will allow me to do that, it's only fair that you guys choose what I end up doing.

I'll elaborate on each option so you can better understand what each project is going to entail:

EARLY ACCESS: The second half of "I ported thousands of apps to Windows 95"

This is where you learn the true depths of my insanity - in more ways than one.

Sorry this has taken so very long. I hoped I could get this part finished within one week, but it ended up taking just over three. There are still things I don't think are perfect, but I'm currently visiting family (on a trip planned several months ago before I knew what a behemoth this video would become) and am limited with how much I can do. I could keep delaying it further, but ultimately I think it's ti...

EARLY ACCESS: The first half of "I ported thousands of apps to Windows 95"

That's right, you guys are FINALLY getting a look at the video I've been working on more-or-less nonstop since December! In fact, even now the whole video still isn't completely "done", so this is just the first half; I'll hopefully have the rest ready for you guys next weekend.

There are still a few missing things and minor issues in this half I haven't yet ironed out - mostly some of the audio and some rough edits - but those should all be resolved by next week too.

Thanks again...

Early Access: I accidentally bought six Xboxes (MattKC Byte)

So I know you're all still eagerly awaiting the new main channel video, and I promise I'm still working on it as fast as I can, but hopefully here's something that will tide you over. The time I semi-unintentionally bought 6 Xboxes and how it all went.

I can imagine some of you may be thinking this could have been a main channel video and wondering why it isn't. The answer is, 1) I feel this video is still relatively short compared to normal, and 2) I feel bigger videos on the ...

New Video Progress Update (February 2024)

tl;dr, still working on it but it's getting there, will post some sneak peeks (screenshots and clips) over the next few days

Well I said the video was on track to be finished by the end of January, and that has turned out to be a FILTHY LIE. It's all taken a lot longer than I anticipated, which I guess isn't super unusual for me.

It is definitely getting close - the screenshot I showed a month ago (top) showed mostly voiceover and very little of the video filled i...

New Video Progress Update (January 2024)

If you're wondering why it's been some time since my last video, well, this is why.

Yes, that's 50 minutes - my longest video yet - and counting; it may get even bigger as it continues to evolve.

I don't usually post about videos-in-progress - I prefer to surprise people and leave as much unspoiled as possible - but since it's going to take a little more time to get this all finished up, I figured I'd at least provide some info about what's curre...

Some of you may know I'm the owner of some meme domains such as billgates.sex (SFW) and doinyour.mom (kind of NSFW?), and ever since I bought them on my live stream, people have demanded I set up an e-mail server so they can create novelty e-mail accounts - which I was obviously all too happy to do.

SNEAK PEEK: I backported .NET to Windows 95

The above image may seem fairly unassuming, but according to Microsoft, what you're seeing is not possible.

Most people today don't have much reason to use or deploy software for Windows 95, but a select handful do. There's a surprising amount of infrastructure that's been in place since the late 1990s/early 2000s that has simply never needed to be upgraded (after all, why fix what isn't broken?)

For our purposes, we may not have any critical twenty-year-old infra...

BONUS: LEGO Island Scripting via SI Files

Hey everyone! I'm nearly done with the next part of the decomp series, but I thought I'd provide a sneak peek at one of the recent discoveries I made!

There's been some debate over how much LEGO Island's SI files actually control the game, especially since they're in a folder called "Scripts". Is the game just an engine that interprets instructions from the SIs, or are the SIs solely asset packs and nothing else?

Turns out the answer is... a little bit of both, but mostly the latt...
