Wouter Feedback

It's a relative simple fix to get focus back. And that is a "mix box or send" aka dry wet control with side chain back in to itself on the wet channel. Also, try to keep leads not auto panning.

La Giang and his mix

Please keep mixing your own tracks, you are doing absolutely brilliant. Your own sound is very nice. In comparison to the norm it's a bit scoopy and always wide.

It doesn't matter though as it is your sound. It sounds good on a big system. Try a/bing without these two niggles and see how you compare then.

Looking to make another mixing series

Hey everyone,

Haven't made a series in a while and would like to take one of your projects and showcase it! Please send in your tracks via a SoundCloud link. Any genre is fine, the idea is the most important I do not care what the mix sounds like. As long as the arrangement is relatively done.

Soundcloud links in the comments please 🙏

Balcer with a ton of questions in one

Well, just a ton of questions :)

Kris's techno talk and feedback

A few little things to do such as sends for smoother transitions, check mono compatibility and for the drop try to move everything up to +7st. Drop back down to the 1 when you feel it. (might work, might not) Up to you :).

Does anybody else have tips for him?

Wouter leaning towards breakbeat

Mix wise try to cut about 140 ish out of the kick. Add a sub (that plays an octave lower than the current bass line).. please put that snare back to center :D.

Fabian's track

Creativity with boundaries or "criterea" are a lot easier and less frustrating to do. The more goal orientated you are before you produce the easier you will get out of the questioning yourself part. As you can answer all the questions with a set of criteria.

Mix wise it's not too shabby. Couple of little tweaks and you are good to go. Side chaining the delay back into itself for clarity being the biggest one

La Giang and Kurkuri

So, It was very confusing for me to give a straight answer as I am not sure how "la giang" is in it with the Euro ish lead. for mixing I would embrace the euro lead and go as cliche as you can. Reverby lead, trancy break, focus on kick, snare, hat (groove elements almost disappearing). And of course endless smile for breaks.

If it's not supposed to be euro ish than completely switch the mix around and focus on groove instead.

Matt's new track

Little alter boy goes in and out of phase.. Which is a little annoying. I do not know any work around right now. But will keep you posted as the only one I know is melodyne (which is silly expensive).

Overall, epic job as always. Loved the distortion on the vocals. What did you use?

Shure SM58 for home recording?

Nope, get a condenser mic instead. You will also need, a xlr cable in to your soundcard with "Phantom power +48v/p48".

Next a pop filter, stand, and set up a closet in your house or make a makeshift corner with blankets.

Cut low, de ess, compress. Time based effects should be added later but you can listen to yourself with it on without having to print it in.

Flume Low end remake

A kick and a reverse kick is pretty much all it is. But also remade this with Serum which you can download below :).

I am also not 100% sure you wanted just that boom woomp sound but that would be the "bass line" of this track as there is just nothing else playing down there

Matt's new collab

Little distortion issues caused by a random plugin. Distortion happens on the sides more than the mid. So have a double check what plugin is doing that.

Next, music lives in the mids so try to see if your sub bass is actually working in that mid range. If it doesn't consider a duplicate and using that distortion plugin on it.

Nasir and his vibes for days

It's just the act of making it wetter and paying attention to little details like the bass going a little dissonant. Nothing to freak out about. Just keep being awesome really, and enjoy the project plus all the footage so next time you can incorporate a few of those techniques! you go this

Matt to use a little melodyne trick

Use that little trick and his voice should be come more "even" with the remix

Wouter's got vibes

So, it's perfectly fine. You managed to balance "shit" kick with the rest perfectly. Tap in to the person listening and slowly get more creative with mixing. from static mixing to connection mixing?

Piet's African Vibes

I like that you are starting to work with Vocals more. It has way more potential this way. I suggest digging a little deeper in african rhythms and adding that to your track (remember rhythms can be played in notes or harmonies too that do not all have to line up)

Add a sub and volume automate that lead and vocal a little

David August Snare Delay trick

It's as simple as a little time automation in repitch mode :)

dBora with the same hat thing but a fat ass track

The hats are out of whack in the beginning. So Automate it.. simple volume automation is fine

Music is art in motion so just let it flow so people continue listening.

Really like the dubby vibe! Good job

Are the HD 650 working or should you keep with the HD25?

Well, no they are not working for you at the moment. The playback system that you are used to most should be used to figure out issues. That being said, absolutely nothing wrong with switching it up! Just give it a double check and make the new pair your new listening headphones (critical listening).. and keep that old one always to check real fast

How do you know if it's too much compression? (kulpa queston)

If you have to do a good amount volume automate too much, most likely you are giving it too much sauce. Try parallel compression and have a look at your limiter. That might be getting too much for it to handle

Loudness Rambling

Well, if you start using 3 different measurements types I can see why it's confusing. At the end of the day, it's not a strict rule. Just something to take into consideration

View Post

Deniz feedback

Stop panning please. (this is only for Deniz). So, just start thinking in mid side vs panning. Once you have mid side mixed your song (side always being less loud than mid) start thinking of maybe panning a little again of elements no one cares about.

Make a mental note of the mid/side elements in your two references and go from there.

Great work, back off the limiter so you do not have a distortion triggered by the kick and automate the kick for the verse/pre chorus :)
