Tier change

So I've added a 3rd tier. Since there are too many patron names now to read out loud (exceeding 4 minutes of audio), I'll only be reading out the $10+ patrons, although the $5+ patrons will still all be credited in text.

Note that even if you're already pledging $10 or more, you still need to manually change the tier you're on if you want your name read out, as you might still end up being listed under the $5+ tier.

Thank you!

New Discord server!

Since people have suggested this, I finally made a Cuck Philosophy Discord server, which will mostly be exclusive to patrons. Everyone's welcome to join. Read the rules and be nice. If you have suggestions for new channels within the server, let me know. There are also roles in the server that function as philosophical and political labels. If you want one applied to you or want to suggest adding a new one, let one of the admins know. Thanks, hope it'll be good!

Notes on "Hellraiser, Bataille and Limit Experiences"

Thank you for your feedback on my last video! I was glad to see a lot of people relate to what Bataille was saying, and to see people making the right connections. There seemed to be a lot of interest in Bataille as a thinker as he's not discussed all that often, so I wrote a bit about him in the notes for this video that I've attached here. Hope it's helpful. Thanks!

(I'd prefer to upload the notes as pdf files but hyperlinks don't work on pdf files. Let me know if you have any suggestio...

Hellraiser, Bataille and Limit Experiences

So, here is my Halloween video, which you might have already watched (there's still time before Halloween is over in case you haven't). I think this might be the strangest subject I've tackled so far. I've attached the video script on this post, and I'm going to post the notes later today. Thank you!

Hey

So, there's gonna be a halloween video coming out either on the upcoming monday or tuesday. I'm wondering also what I should do for my 50,000 subscriber special. Should I do another Q&A? Or perhaps, since my channel has kind of ended up focusing mostly on postmodernism, I could do a postmodernism FAQ, where I would have people ask common questions about postmodernism, maybe clear up some common misunderstandings? It would be kind of an introductory video in the form of answering questions. L...

Update + Notes on 'Sonic Adventure 2 - A Postmodern Analysis"

So, my next video will come out at the end of the month for Halloween, and the thinker it'll focus on is Bataille (try guessing what horror movie I'll use to talk about him). After that, the next video will be determined by a poll again.

I slightly altered the Patreon tiers. All Patrons will receive access to my notes and video scripts. $5+ patrons, as before, will be listed at the end credits of each video. I've been getting loads of new patrons (which I'm, of course, extremely grateful ...

Notes on "Postmodernism is not identity politics"

So here is my first attempt at writing extra video notes for my patrons, made to hopefully be helpful. Since this is my first try, please give any feedback you have on other things I should include in the notes, or different ways of organizing them. Tell me also if you'd be interested in similar notes being written for my earlier videos.

Postmodernism is not identity politics

New video is up! Later today or tomorrow, I'll upload the video script, as well as the new kind of notes that I'm going to be doing from now on. Thanks, everyone!

Next video

So the poll determined that the next video will be on postmodern criticisms of identity politics. Some people think that I should stop focusing so much on Peterson/Hicks and similar figures, so although the video will use Peterson as a single reference point, most of it will be a more positive explanation of the postmodern challenges that have been put forth against identity politics, which is something that hasn't really been discussed on YouTube. The video will probably come out sometime next ...

Poll for the next video

Time to decide what the channel's next video will be, here are the options:

  1. I would talk about The Emoji Movie as an example of what The Frankfurt School's Adorno and Horkheimer called the culture industry - when culture becomes commodified, standardized, mass-produced and used to keep people in passivity. Even though Adorno’s work on the culture industry is decades old, it still pretty well applies to The Emoji Movie. It’s a good example both because of the ubiquitous ...

Neoliberalism, World Music and Corporate Aesthetics

This turned out to be kind of a strange(?) video, I didn't focus on philosophical concepts as much as in my other ones, and meandered from topic to topic a bit. My next video will probably be more Cuck-Philosophy-esque!

News

So, the option to keep the name Cuck Philosophy won by 2 votes, very fierce poll. Some people will be happy and some will be disappointed - I myself am not sure what I think would have been better. (Maybe in the future I'll consider changing it again, either into some abbreviation like CK Philosophy, or something similar but less sexual like Soy Philosophy)

In other news, the option that won for the next video topic is Neoliberalism and the Aesthetics of Global Unity. I think I might chan...

Poll for the next video

It's time to vote for what the next video is going to be. The poll on whether I should retain the name "Cuck Philosophy" is still up and is at a tie right now so don't forget to vote on that too if you haven't.

Here are the option descriptions:

  1. I would talk about The Emoji Movie as an example of what The Frankfurt School's Adorno and Horkheimer called the culture industry - when culture becomes commodified, standardized, mass-produced and used to keep people in passivity. Even...

Okay, it's better to do this sooner than later. Should I change the channel name (into something that does not involve "cuck") or not? I'll keep this poll up for a week and the result will be decisive

A Critique of Stephen Hicks' "Explaining Postmodernism"

It's finally here. Working on this was really tiresome - not only is it one of the worst books I've ever read, it also ended up being my longest video yet. I hope you enjoy it enough to make up for my pain making it.

Look forward to Stephen Hicks

So I just finished the entirety of Stephen Hicks' "Explaining Postmodernism". It was truly a painful experience, more painful than "The Moral Landscape" in some ways. Option 2 won in the poll, so the next video is going to be a critique of the book. I expect extra thank-you's and compliments in return for making me go through this.

Time for a new poll

What should the next video on the channel be? Here are the options:

1)  I would talk about The Emoji Movie as an example of what The Frankfurt School's Adorno called the culture industry - when culture becomes commodified, standardized, mass-produced and used to keep people in passivity) The Emoji Movie is a good example of this both because of the ubiquitous product placement and its plot. You won’t have to have seen The Emoji Movie to follow the video, of course. Although Adorno ...

30,000 Sub Q&A

The Q&A video is finally done. I've been busy with moving out so it took a lot longer than I expected. I promise the next video will be a proper one and determined by poll votes. Thanks, everyone, I love you!

A question

Often, after reading up on some philosopher and making a video, I end up noticing more good examples to illustrate the theory. I wonder if I should, in addition to the longer videos, also make shorter videos in which I build on a previous video, using a new example. (I thought of, for instance, doing a video on hauntological music and Ariel Pink, or Baudrillard's postmodern condition and the artist SOPHIE). What do you think?

In addition to that, tell me in the comments if you'd be intere...

Update

Working on my video on Hegelian recognition right now. Should be done tomorrow or the day after that. Right after that, I'll start working on my video on Sam Harris's "Moral Landscape". It's such a horrid book that I need to talk about it and not let me reading it have been for nothing

New video poll

Hey!!! It's time to vote for the next video. None of the current options are explicitly about socialism as I want to vary the content a bit and do slightly less controversial stuff too. They're gonna come back later though. Here are the options:

  1. This would be a video roughly explaining the role played by recognition in Hegel’s philosophy - how being recognized by other people is an important part of one’s conscious development, and how consciousness develops intersubjectively in Hege...

If you make art...

I have a video idea that I might do sometime (not necessarily, so don't get your hopes up TOO much). If you make art that's visual and static (drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, etc. whether professionally or not) and you wouldn't mind it being shown in a video, send it to me here on Patreon. It can be as abstract, minimal, strange, whatever as you like. Additionally, it would be great if you told me a bit about what your creative process was, is there a meaning or a concept, how did you...

What should the next video be?

I'll leave the poll up for a week. Here are the options:

1) I'd talk about the philosophy of the 1st season of the TV show True Detective, which is philosophical pessimism, explicitly talked about by one of the show's main characters Rust Cohle. I'd talk about Thomas Ligotti's philosophical influence on Rust's character, but also about the philosophical influences of Ligotti himself, such as Zapffe and Cioran. I'd explain some philosophical themes mentioned in the show, such as the...

New video poll

As I said when I posted my last video, my next video will be something related to pop culture. Currently I have two ideas in mind. (The undone video topics in previous polls will probably return in some later polls)

1) For the video about hauntology, I would explain this term coined by Derrida, and then talk about how it was utilized later by Mark Fisher in cultural theory. I'd talk about his idea of "lost futures", in which we ironically try to recover or relive ideals and hopes for the ...

What does social construction really mean?

Latest video is out! This one is a general introduction to social construction and a response to some very common misunderstandings I've seen online. Didn't enjoy editing this very much as I didn't know what to show most of the time. I think my next video will be something related to pop culture again. Thanks for the support, guys!
