Experiment: Finishing-Grabs

An interesting idea came up to me on Discord a bit ago and I wanted to give it a shot.

One of the design problem HRT and CATC faces is how to integrate H-attacks in its combat system. The grab system HRT inherited from the first Heroine Rumble (and subsequently CATC) works well in a 1v1 or in a versus game setting, but is not ideal for more asymmetrical action games.

SR - is the combat speed too fast?

Back in the Heroine Rumble days, I started with a slow combat speed, but then people were saying the combat speed were too slow. This lead to an eventually 1.3x speedup in a later patch. (This setting is changeable in game settings)

So for SR, I started with a faster combat speed. However, I may have run into an opposite problem: is the combat speed too fast? What do you guys think?

Unit assignment ready!

New patch very soonTM.

The unit assignment system is done! With this, players can assign their units to a base facility for various effects. To start off, there will be only 2 in the next patch: "Comfort" in "Own Room" and "Practice" in the new "Virtual Training Center." "Comfort" can restore unit Resolve, but only has 1 slot. "Virtual Training Center" gives passive experience gain, at cost of credits for up to 3 units per turn.

Some new units

Working on the second threat group, the Evil Organization, to be added into the Dynamic Mission System.

The EO features the troopers units that players have seen before. They will also field Elite Troopers, to supplement their basic troopers.

I gotten frequent feedback that the game is "too easy," so these units are tuned to be somewhat stronger than units in game before.

Some new mechanics

Did work on CATC this week, here are some of the new features.

The first are the new "Lustful Thoughts" system, which is a mechanic that causes a character to have more and more bad/negative/corrupted cards that is detrimental to the character. The amount of these lustful cards depends on the Lust level and Resolve (and Personality in the future).

SR: Versus Mode

Made a Versus Mode for Scuffed Rumble (The action game experiment). I'll release it very soon. 

The Versus Mode mode gameplay is very similar to Heroine Rumble, with a "fighting-game-style" camera, and focuses on 1v1s instead of group fights.

Experience and Leveling Up

Earning experience and leveling up will be available in the next patch! In this post I'll first describe how the works, and then talk about some implementation stuff that you can skip if not interested.

Earning experience is fairly straight forward, finish up a mission and you'll now see this End Of Mission screen showing what you have earned (instead of instantly switching to the base screen)

Some new Mechanics

Working on the progression and I like to introduce some new mechanics:

Credits: basic currency that you earn from a variety of ways, such as from completing a mission. Spend credits to buy supplies, equipment, build new buildings and to pay for maintenance - the more buildings you build, the higher the maintenance fees per turn.

Essence: rare resources that you extract from Monsters. Used in training, research and upgrades.
