Auditive participation

The method of doing highlights and finishing touches is called dry brushing - you dip your brush into unthinned paint and wipe it off until the brush is only barely sticky, and gently dust the miniatures to get a very subtle layer of faint paint. It also makes a lovely sound I find relaxing.

We still have no idea who that was.

The ceiling moth

We honest-to-god have no idea what to do with it. Our apartment is very tall - the ceiling is at 3 metres - so we can't reach the ceiling to get to the moth even if we wanted to, and even if we could herd it outside, it's already autumn out there so it would just get cold and die anyway. So it hangs out on the ceiling and evidently flies around at night. What does it even do all night? What does it eat? Is it happy here?

Sidequest pie

Ingredients also included: eggs given by my boyfriend's mom (he doesn't want to accept anything she wants to give but I on the other hand have no shame), and chopped up turkey sausage that we got from our neighbour as a thank you for helping her out with defrosting her freezer.

Jumpstart

They were human sized cockroaches, to be precise. I was having a dream about being somewhere with my mother and sister, and everybody was arguing about whose fault it was that a pile of wet laundry had been consumed by mould overnight.

Frosty

It's that time of the year again! Half the year my boyfriend terrorises me with his hot hands when it's already too hot and it's like getting a steaming hot bag of sand placed on you, and for the other half of the year I terrorise him by sticking my cold hands on him when it's cold outside.

Rain check

My boyfriend likes testing his outdoor gear whenever it's raining. He also happens to like simply vibing outside when there's no people out.

Foxhole

The specific type of shelter dugout (called "korsu" in finnish) doesn't have a proper english name for it, so here's two example images of what those are. I got both pictures from google, so they're not ours! Our dugout is still just a (admittedly, impressively large) hole in the ground. We're adding walls and floors next!

The unfavoured daughter

This is my longest animation as of yet! Went insane while doing it, and found so many things in hindsight that I could have done better, but I'm not touching this again. It took about three times as long as I thought it should.

Return to normal

I was supposed to draw a comic like this for monday, but due to my poor scheduling didn't consider that I wouldn't be home until 6 pm, and spent almost all of tuesday recovering in bed. The past week involved nonstop activities for 5 days straight, short sleep in unfamiliar beds, and 14 hours' worth of travel, so that was a lot more on me than I thought it would be.
But it's nice to have a month's worth of things happening nonstop sometimes, so that it'll then be nice to have absolute...

Homecoming

Sorry about the dramatic drop in art quality, this was very clearly and visibly drawn on a piece of loose crap paper with a lucky find ballpoint pen, and posted live from the train it was drawn in, but the wedding was great! Befriended a lot of family from both sides and had some great conversations also.

I went to a friend's wedding

It was beautiful. I also had a few glasses of wine. I swore undying loyalty to my friend's bloodline, unprompted and unrequested, and promised the bride's brother, the groom's brother, the bride's uncle, the bride's father and the bestman's girlfriend that if the newlywed couple were ever to reproduce, not just me but also all of our friend group, our whole squad of unhinged neurodivergent weeaboo chimpanzees, would do our very best to contribute and collectively raise their offspring as our ...

The masterplan

We joked about this while digging a hole at my boyfriend's parents' backyard. Roping new people into playing tabletop games is unreasonably hard.

Annual tradition

We really do forget every single year. The date we chose was an arbitrary guess anyhow, since neither of us remembers the exact date of our first date.

Family resemblance

I wish I could say that this didn't actually happen. In my defense, I'm mildly face blind, and my boyfriend's grandma had her eldest when she was very young, so they only have 17 years of age difference.

All dressed up

My basic rule of thumb with the comic is that the bedroom and bathroom are private - I'm making comics about both of our lives, and even though I do try to always show the comic to my boyfriend before publishing, I still want to be careful of respecting his privacy.
This one didn't originally include the blushing, but my boyfriend was quite clear about how he feels about seeing me in a suit, and after seeing the comic, he said he wanted to make it more explicitly clear.

Dress codes

I am a huge sucker for getting to dress all fancy and formal for fancy and formal events. Not having that kind of Big Fancy Events in my life anymore is probably the only thing I miss about my family.

Emergency education

Knowing safety protocols works the opposite way from how vaccines work: if one person in a group knows what to do, everyone will.

(My boyfriend is a bit of a doomsday prepper, so he's the one who actually knows about emergency stuff. My job is to wrangle everyone else into doing what he says.)

Trail cam

I love "fake footage" style of art, and a while ago it occurred to me that I wanted to try painting something that looks like night vision trail cam footage, combining that with some sort of a fantastical horror element in order to make something truly weird and creepy. Ended up going with an unicorn. Then I realised that while painting that was fun, it'd be even more fun and creepy to make it an animation. Like it's not just a snapshot of a wild creature being momentarily startled by the cam...

The doorstopper

The door of the bicycle storage of our apartment building is heavy and closes automatically. It has no mechanism you can use to lock it open, and it's ridiculously difficult to get yourself and your bike inside unless you've got someone else with you to hold the door. So, being an apartment building, one of the residents had decided to fix the problem by getting a nice wedge-shaped rock heavy enough to hold it open while you go in and out, which was very smart and benefits everybody....

Expressive volumes

The first time I met my boyfriend's mother, my first thought was that this woman must be on the brink of suicide, the way she only has the energy to weakly complain about everything and find nothing positive to say about anything. It took me a long time to understand that this isn't an expression of utter despair, it's just hpw she talks. That level of expressing dissatisfaction is normal to them.
In return, my boyfriend often asks if I'm sad when my face is just neutral, because my "sad"...

Staying informed

I do my best to always let my partner see the comics I make before I publish them, since it's his life too, and I wouldn't want to depict him in a light that he doesn't like. I was worried about this one being too mean-spirited and negative, but as I showed it to my boyfriend, he laughed harder than he probably has ever laughed to one of my comics.

Laundry and taxes with you

Life is simple, life is good. I don't really worry much about things I can't do anything to stop, but in the middle of our little mundane life, I often like to remind myself that if the world - the whole world, or just ours - comes crashing down, these are the nice times that I'll always look back to. I should enjoy them.
