Bought PC parts (SECOND TRY)

Whew. I'm giving this another attempt, I did the research, picked the parts and bought them. They'll be here on the 13th-14th.

I played it a bit safer this time, focusing on stability and compatibility, so it's far less likely I'll run into trouble than last time.

Total cost is a smidge over the budget, honestly. I'll update the budget when I get everything put together.

Nothing new here really, so far I've only gotten Laela, Dettna and the original Switchdog model done. Right now I've been playing on and off with Lyyona and the other Switchdog (who should be getting a name poll pretty soon-ish) and I think Lyyona's probably going to be first, as I want to hold off on the shortstack SD until after she has a name.

Tweaking a couple little things

On my video uploads on dA and FA, I'm going to link people to the Youtube video, instead of including the MEGA download alongside it. I think I'd rather prefer people watch my videos to boost their visibility on the Youtube algorithm instead of downloading them.
Max quality, fully-buffered videos on Youtube don't really have too many compression problems anyway, but if someone wants the absolutely uncompressed version, they can nab it from my MEGA folder, if they're paying for it....

Patreon's changing a couple things

I don't think it'll change anything on THIS page, but I figured I should mention it:
Patreon's changing how sales tax is calculated on certain goods through different tiers on people's pages.

As far as I can tell, they're making it so Patreon creators who actually have tiers where you GET something, a tangible reward, then it'll pull sales tax out of the pledge and make it so the patrons will have to pay a sales tax on their pledge... I think?

Anyway, the change is on July 1st ...

Just gauging interest here, kinda curious what people want lately.

I'll run this for the upper tiers for a few days, then unlock it for everyone, but I'll keep tabs on what the supporters think and weigh that against the votes after that.

Updates:

In no particular order:

1. Laela update is nearly complete-ish.

2. Switchdog model has been fixed and updated (at least probably fixed, people don't seem to download those models too much, so there's a chance it's still broken and nobody has told me yet, ha.)

3. Finally got around to changing the oil on my motorcycle, by hand, for the first time ever.

4. Feels like I'm getting sick. Probably not C19.

5. Ran a non-binding, half-serious poll on Twitter for the heck...

dA Eclipse

It's buggy as heck, broke two GIF uploads in a row, and removed a lot of features I liked for no apparent reason.

I'm basically a 50/50 split on leaving dA permanently, but I post all my stuff on FA, Twitter, Youtube and my Mega folder, so I'm probably fine for now.

Side note: as you can see, I kinda do that nested "OLDER" folder thing. It helps to bury older content a bit and keep the fresher stuff on top.

Still shopping around

Pssshhhhh, basically everything's sold out. Hoping I don't have to wait until the virus is over to buy the parts I want.

Total cost for the last half of upgrades will probably be $500-$600.

Bah, online shopping, COVID stuff, and money.

I was looking around for computer parts to try to find deals and maybe start buying some for the final round of upgrades for this computer, but nnnnnooooooOOOoooo, we're having a global pandemic right now, so a lot of parts are either out of stock, delayed for months, or cost twice as much.

PC update:

TL;DR: I need the rest of the upgrades for my computer pretty badly. Not an emergency, just would solve some irritation.

Still nothing really WRONG with it, but I'm most definitely bottlenecking badly with the old, janky CPU I'm running.
(If it wasn't clear, "bottlenecking" is when one part of the computer is slower than the rest, causing the whole thing to run slower than it should.)

The biggest problem is UI lag; every time I do anything too complicated in blender, or I move ...

-Hytie, that hummingbird hybrid I've been posting a lot still has a few issues in her model, and she's kinda messy to use, considering her bird legs and very bird-y wings. Her human DNA's a tad low for my personal tastes, so I'll likely make mini-tweaks here and there to help nudge her a smidge more human. Update:

I can already tell I'm bottlenecking here and there, but otherwise it's definitely much quicker for rendering.
Like a maniac, I'm running both the new and old GPUs at the same time, too.

The biggest thing I've noticed so far is that when rendering full-blast, it's running a bit hotter than I'd like, but still within safe limits. I'll have to keep a close eye on that for the next few days to decide if I need to do something about it. My current guess is no; it's hot, but not dangerous...

New computer part

Just bought a GPU, It'll be here in a couple days.
Assuming my computer doesn't bottleneck it, it should allow me to dive headfirst into rendering in Cycles again (Cycles is the render engine in Blender that has all the fancy lighting and shading effects, with raytracing and such.)

Translation: on Friday, unless something goes wrong, there should be a fancy increase to the quality of all my pics and animations.

Cleaned up my page

As you can see, I cleaned it up a bit.
I want to keep it more as a fancy tip jar. I mean, I'm hurting for money IRL but I feel like the tiers I wrote were a little too ambiguous; if I want to make some real money, I have to open commissions somewhere.

That said, commissions are still not open, I'm shopping around for a motorcycle shop that just does plain oil changes for cheap, rather than what most shops do where they do a ton of extra work on top of the oil change and charge $300 ...
