Starting with the poll results:
I'm going to use the next couple days to double check sales, then buy all but the most expensive part (the GPU) and I should have the whole thing built before my little trip on Jan 15-21. The GPU will wait for a while, since I want to make sure I get a good one right off the bat, instead of going for the cheap-ish route like last time. I will say, though, that Blender supports rendering with multiple GPUs without needing Crossfire or SLI, so...

Computer build, maybe?

EDIT: To clarify, both choices will end with roughly the same computer in the long run.

(Decided to run a little poll to decide a short term plan on the eventual new build, since I've been itching to finally put this computer to pasture after, uh, 9 or so years. That PSU failure back then still gives me the computer-technician-heebee-jeebees, and I'd rather not gamble forever on it.)

Unless one of those big, magically-amazing deals pop up, I'm probably going to build the new compu...

Pretty obvious xmas update:

It's tradition at my grandparents' house (the grandparents I caretake for) to host an elaborate breakfast on Christmas day and I like to cook. We run some stuff on Christmas eve, too, but the last of my relatives with kids moved too far away to visit, so we don't expect much.
Kids or not, I'll be busy with that on those days, so expect productivity on the lewd side of things to drop off for those two days, probably.

Had another thought:

It's pretty common to find good deals on prebuilt computers that have a lot of good parts in them, but a bad/cheap videocard, sold for "office" use. If I see a good enough one of those, it's pretty likely I'll pick it up.  The only real downsides to that approach is that it's fairly common for them to be really cheap on the power supply, so I'd have to spend $50 on a better one, and that I'd chuck my current videocard into it, so it honestly wouldn't have a huge, immediate effec...

I made this poll to try to gauge how much of an interest it is. I wont change anything unless one choice gets a decent-sized lead over the other choices, though.

Thoughts

So I was thinking, my entire computer is almost ten years old, minus some newer parts here and there (thanks guys!), but I kind of have to wonder if it might be more worth it to nab one of those really legendary sales that pop up every now and then and just get a great prebuilt one.

Of course I wouldn't do this unless it was a REALLY good deal, I'm trained as a computer technician, so in most cases it would be cheaper to build from scratch.

The Strawpoll was stuck in a tie, so I ran a smaller poll on Twitter, and by the time I woke up, both the Twitter poll and the Strawpoll poll were showing a Miira lead.

A quick summary:

I posted the full journal on both dA and FA, but here's the short version:

1. Future animations on both sites will be uploaded as images, or little GIF snippets, with links to the full animation elsewhere.

2. Payya redesign is almost done. Catherine has an updated tail, will upload soon.

3. Might be gone/busy for a day or two close to Christmas. Will be gone for 5-6 days in mid-January.

dA's screwing Flash before they actually add an alternative that doesn't require Core, so I and anyone else who posts animations to dA need to consider alternatives.
Whatever poll choice wins, my Mega and the links to it wont change, this is more about the low quality copies on dA and FA.

I figure both sites will drop SWF eventually, so it might be wise to plan ahead.

Update:

First, it looks like Payya's staying.

Second, IDK, I thought I caught the flu for a bit, maybe it was just bad food, IDK.

I keep wanting to model a pump-y strapon dildo, but I'm not too sure how often I'd use it, I think I'd rather model some new restraints and just stick to regular hoses, or something. I'll leave the legitimately porn-y stuff to the porn people, unless half the internet shows up and tells me to start animating legit porn.

Hybrid removal poll?

Time for an odd poll: should I get rid of the Pikachu hybrid, Payya? Some  people don't like how she treats the others, and some people think I  have too many hybrids as-is, so I figure this could be a way to settle  that.

Little updates

1. Got a drawing tablet for cheap. It's neat, but I'll need some practice with it, for sure. If I get good with it, it should let me doodle more textures by hand. It cost $31-ish, so I'll dock the budget for $30 soon.

2. I'll be running some lengthy errands on Sunday and Monday, which will keep me away from my PC.

Black Friday update

Doesn't look like I'll be buying any major parts this year, so the budget's staying where it's at.
Still looking at drawing tablets in the $20-30 price range, though. Thanks to the configuration of the room I live in and the desk I use, there isn't a lot of breathing room to draw with my mouse and a tablet should be a lot more flexible for drawing textures and such.

Black Friday

I'm going to be eyeing the BF sales, just in case I see anything that really sticks out.

I've been kinda considering one of those cheap $20-$30 drawing tablets to help with drawing textures, but I think the biggest thing I'd be looking for is a much better GPU.
I mean, MUCH better; if I get a GPU this Black Friday, it has to be top-end, or at least close to it, or I wont bother and I'll stick to the original plan of waiting until the budget has built up enough to build the whole thin...

Also, think more about how the place looks, rather than what it actually IS.
Like, picking cafeteria doesn't always mean food stuffing, the sauna doesn't mean everyone's going to have water hoses jammed down their throats 24/7, etc.

I set a deadline for the end of the poll, and the Miltank won (by a tiny margin). I wish the Zorua had won, but it's no biggie.

I'm still working on some other projects, so it'll be a sec before I get to her, but she's definitely set in stone now.
