An Overdue Confrontation, pg 3

SPOILERS - these two don't like each other.

An Overdue Confrontation, pg 2

Just two more pages, then I think we'll be at a nice break point to where I can start inking and coloring! Though that still depends on my contract work, which has just gotten a bit more complicated...

Earlier today, my boss offered me an out. He knows I'm unhappy with this project, so he's willing to let me bow out if I need to, no hard feelings. Oddly enough, that's a much more difficult decision than I thought it'd be. It's one thing to say I'd like to quit when I think I don't really have ...

Not amused

Candice is tough enough for me to draw normally...  From low angles, she's so much worse!

In other news, my 2D-puppet contract has resume, and I'm already anxious for it to end. I can't convey how much I hate this gig, how angry it makes me, and the affect it's having on my ability to draw or even just relax. The paycheck is the only redeeming thing about this job, but at the same time no amount of money is worth this kind of aggravation.

The one thing that made me smile about this ...

Someone's excited

My 2d puppet contract may resume on monday, and this weekend I need to go apartment-hunting. No time to rest! As far as this comic is concerned, I'd like to at least get the first 5, maybe 6 pages drawn before I start inking or coloring anything. Or would it be better to draw the entire thing first? All I know is my old habit of drawing, inking, and coloring one page at a time didn't work so well...

An Overdue Confrontation, pg 1

This comic finally has a title! Maybe. It was this or "The Candy Kane Conspiracy", or "In Glass Houses..."

Candice was first teased over a year ago, towards the end of "The Dark Corner". This chapter was supposed to immediately follow that one, but by then I was burned out and needed a break.

One benefit to the delay, was it allowed me to tighten up the dialogue, and fix some plot holes I hadn't been aware of before. One downside - since it'd no longer be an extension of The Dark Corner,...

Travel Pics, with a twist - Sequoia National Forest

I've been back home for a week, but between drawing comic panels, waiting for this one contract to resume, and cursing Comcast, I'm still processing the photos from my trip. First the light & shadows need to be balanced out, and then the left/right pairs need to be aligned.

...That's one thing I started doing at the Grand Canyon - shooting left & right images in hopes of combining them into a stereo 3D image. So many of the sights need to be seen with your own eyes, because pictures si...

Something I realized while drawing this page - I think this is the first time I've actually had Rose and Violent interact.

Spoiler preference

My road trip is over, and in a couple of days I'll be back home! And with only one panel left to draw, this comic page I've been working on should be ready for assembly! The question on my mind is, just how much do I want to spoil?

The page is meant to be in the middle of my still-unnamed Candice-centric chapter, but really happens at the same time (just in the background) as the pages before it. The page is fairly self-contained, and everything that's said is simple exposition, at least until...

Closer

Only 1.5 panels left to draw, then this page is ready to be assembled! ...in a week, after I get home. One thing that occurred to me while drawing this - I think this is the first time I've shown Violet and Rose really interacting.

Progress

I'm still alive! So far on this trip I've been to Mount Rushmore, the Rocky Mountains, the Grand Canyon, Sequoia national forest, and now Yosemite! After a couple of days here, I'll be off to Yellowstone, and then on my way home! Then I'll have a ton of photos to process. In the meantime, I've gotten started on this comic page, which an exposition-heavy one in the middle of the Candice-centric chapter I'd been holding off on. Downside is it turns out it's difficult to get anything done when your...

September Kick-Off

September is usually a stressful month for me. For the past few years, I've been going up to Michigan for the Frankenmuth Autofest, and staying for my nephew's birthday the following weekend. During that week, it's a miracle if I accomplish anything, because my brother's house is not a very comfortable place for me to work. His dogs demand too much attention if I'm upstairs, and the basement can get depressing...

This year will be a little different. My younger brother - it's my older brother'...

Fully Assembled

This is one of those ideas I'd kinda like to animate, if only so we could see the spin Daisy would have to do between pages one & two, to hit Rose with her boobs.

Now I have a bit of a dilemma - I want to start inking & coloring this, which involves sitting at my desk. Since the assets for the next phase of my 2D-puppet contract are due to arrive tomorrow, I could be chained to my desk as soon as tomorrow. So do I want to get one or two of these pics inked & colored, or do I want t...

Character concepts

A couple of concept-scribbles for new characters, from a few days ago. It's been suggested that I give Daisy some friends she can hang out with outside of work...  no idea if either of these will work, but they made for a good warm-up!

On a different note, this 2D-puppet contract has been testing my patience, to put it lightly. First, the "light feedback" I was expecting was hardly light. As much as I dislike Spine, having to go back in for some major edits was not something I was looking...

Back to work

My internet finally got hooked up, and I was able to complete my portion of the current phase ofnthis contract... barring some minor cleanup, there may not be anything for me for the next week, meaning I can work on whatever I want! Time to catch up on some drawing! ...and fight through art-block. Apart from moving and my internet troubles, the amount of tech work I've been doing over the past couple of months hasn't been good for my creativity...

Thinking Evil Thoughts... And not the good kind

I'm not a very happy camper right now... My latest contract started last Monday. Since this job uses software I've never used before - Spine - I was given 8 days to learn the workflow and get my first character rigged. For the first 4 days, though, I was busy moving out of my house. 3 and a half days of cramming heavy furniture and boxes upon boxes into two storage units, in 90-degree weather and humidity that makes you pour sweat just by stepping outside. And day 4 was capped off by a 3-hour ...

Candice comic pg 7

This page has probably changed the most since my initial script, and I'm still making tweaks. The version on the left is only slightly modified from what's in the PDF, while the version of the right is how it was originally written (minus a 4th panel, that would have had Candice standing stunned in the middle of a panoramic view of the diner, with customers on both sides staring at her).

While I still like the original version, it doesn't really work. Candice would have done the math a long ti...

Rewards up, campaign paused

It took longer than I would have liked but the files for June are finally up.  I didn't have time to finish the 'squish' pinup, which leads into my next thing - I've hit the pause button for this month, because I'm too busy.

While the animation contract I'd been on for the past couple of months is now finished, another contract is ramping up, with ANOTHER on the way.  The one that's just getting started uses Spine, which I've never used before. I'm sure that won't be in any way stres...

SPOILERS! Candice comic

I decided to go ahead and letter the thumbnails for the next comic, to make sure that all the dialogue fits.  Thankfully, it does!  (barely, at one or two points)

I've no idea when I'll be able to fully draw these pages, much less ink & color them, but for now if you'd like to see where the story is going, check out the attached PDF!

Schedule Conflicts

This could be a good news/bad news situation.

First some of the good - as a warm-up if nothing else, I'm finally thumbnailing a comic chapter I've put off for way too long!  This one was originally supposed to pick up right where The Dark Corner ended, but with the amount of time that's passed, I added a new first page to make it a standalone chapter.  Currently it's planned out as 8-9 pages, though I don't know when I'll start posting it.  Normally I post pages as I finish them...
