Ideas...

My parents bought a Bolt EV a few weeks ago (here it is charging at my place the day they bought it).   That's handy, isn't it?  I never thought I'd get my hands on one for at least a few years.  Well of course, I haven't really.  This isn't my car.

Yes, my EV-angelism has infected my parental units, in part because they are able to take advantage of off-peak charging and pay something like 2.4 cents per kilowatt hour to charge the thing.  Man that's cheap. <...

Analog Color TV Wrap-up

The newest video is up for your eyes only.  I will probably take a risk and set this to public on Friday afternoon, just because weekdays seem to do better.

As always, a real thumbnail, captions, cards, and end screen are in the process of being added.  Those will all be there before I flip the switch.

Look what I found

LGR, eat your heart out.

My local Menards has a Goodwill next to it, and I tend to stop in whenever I need to buy hardware-y type stuff.  I made the trip to Menards to get adhesive for attaching sound absorbing tiles to my walls.

Anyway, I spied a bulky case with Sony on the side.  "That looks like a camcorder.  That could be a Betamovie.  Oh god, it is.  There goes ten dollars."

No idea yet if it works, haven't even tried it, but it's in near perfect shape...

Behind the Scenes: Teleprompter

In the first behind the scenes video I give you a look at the teleprompter I use for recording.  It's of dubious quality and my own creation, but works well enough.

Demonitized again

Indeed.  The last one got flagged some time this morning.  This reiterates again why I'm so thankful I have you and your support.

Going from advice I've heard in multiple places, I'll be changing how I release my videos.  Those who are at the $5 and up support level will receive access to new videos earlier than before.  It seems like having a video stay unlisted for 3 days is the sweet spot for determining monitization status.

I can only hope that this is indeed an a...

Late into the night

Well, here it is!  I have a lot of links to curate for the description and I'm headed to bed--that'll have to go in tomorrow.  Also this is not the thumbnail that will stay.  Lots still to do.

Enjoy!

One day more!

I ask once more for your patience with the upcoming video.  Please feel free to give me a digital punch to the face.  The edit is going smoothly and to be honest this is a simpler one as far as illustrations, however, a last-minute family need cropped up these past few days and I'm visiting the parents once again.  The good news is that I have my laptop this time and the Chroma Key is working.

The next 4 videos are all lined up in an actual schedule, can you believe that?  ...

Busywork, Patreon, and Other Things

On a very frustrating note, my last talking head wasn't usable because the chroma key was no good.  The shirt I was wearing required too much matte generation and cleanup, which then started removing my hair, too.  Oops.

Unfortunately I've been somewhat delayed due to this mishap.  I rather stupidly shot the talking head and didn't touch it at all until I spent a spell with my parents, and with the footage spoiled I brought my laptop along for nothing, and couldn't proceed until...

Goals

Hello all,

I'm monitoring the newest video's reception and it seems to be going well.  I'm officially putting this in writing.  I will produce a total of at least 4 videos in December.  There.  It's in writing, now it must be done!

You should expect the next video on television within a week, I hope.  It's 90% written but I need to finish odds-and-ends, after which point it's talking head, B-roll, then editing time.

Also, to those at the $5 and up support l...

Well now, that was quick

I hope you enjoy this video.  It's a bit different (but timely) and hopefully interesting.

I'll be making this video public tomorrow afternoon.  As usual, the endscreen and captions aren't up yet and will be added shortly.  Let me know what you think!

Not what you were expecting

Remember how I said I was making a video based on my trip?  Well, I am, but that one will be put off momentarily.  In time for the holidays I want to make a simple video with an overview of Fairy Lights, their construction, and a particular kind that's hard to find but I very much like.  You may have noticed I'm very much not British and are wondering why I just referred to these as fairy lights, but you'll get it when it comes out.

Editing should be done today and I'll post thi...

Howdy

If you haven't noticed, I've been pretty quiet lately.  That's because I'm on that vacation I was talking about!

I've got a video planned that will be quick to produce once I return, which is soon.  Then we finish up our color TV story.

Thank you to everyone for your support.  You're the best!

Also of note, I just crossed 40,000 subscribers a few hours ago, and you helped to make that happen!

See you soon!

New upload!

I've got my most recent video uploaded and it's ready for your consumption!

I'm gonna be working on cards, captions, and the video description over the next little while, so it may seem incomplete at the time you view it.

Hope you like it!

The next video will be a two-parter

Writing is perhaps the part of the video-making process that I enjoy most.  And at times, I can get carried away!

In reading through what I've got thus far; I'm already breaking the 20 minute mark and I've still got more to cover.  Tomorrow I hope to shoot the talking head and most of the B-roll and then it's editing time!

The video will cover color television (as you may have guessed).  My first part will explore CBS's sequential color system and the shadow-mask picture t...

A new video for you!

See?  I've got more time--and here's a video!.

I hope you like it.  Photography has a special place in my heart, and it's a large part of why I gravitated to video work.  Enjoy!

Please note:  This video will be going public around 7:00 PM CST on 11/9/17

Officially Working on YouTube Full Time (mostly)

Things moved a little faster at my day job and I'm now working 20 hours a week.  Which is both terrifying and fantastic!

With that said, there is other work to be done.  I'm currently editing a very unrelated video--I'm thinking of doing a format where every other video follows a main story arc (like I'm currently doing with Television) and the videos in between are part of Tech Explorations, just looking at one particular topic or thing.  We'll see how that goes...

I've b...

A Teaser

If you hadn't guessed from the shirt I was wearing in my latest video, I have a fondness for Laserdiscs.  This machine has been stuck in my mind ever since I first researched the format, and I truly think it is one of the most beautiful and unique pieces of audiovisual equipment to have ever been produced.  So of course, I had to have one.  This machine is older than every CD player, as it was made in 1981.

Sadly, it doesn't work, and probably never will.  These old Magnavo...

This is why you're so important

Well,

I thought my channel was pretty safe from this happening given the nature of its content, but my most recent upload has received the dreaded "Not suitable for most advertisers" flag.  Obviously this is a case of the algorithm being overly sensitive or just mistaken, but it sucks!  I have requested a review, but it will take a while to process, and in general your biggest chunk of revenue from a new video comes from the first week.

This is particularly frustrating because ...

Huzzah! Philo Farnsworth's Video is Live!

Greetings Patrons,

I bet you were losing faith that I'd get this uploaded!  I know I was...

Seriously though, I think I'm finally satisfied with it.  You can watch it now, but it was literally uploaded moments ago from posting this, and I have to add end screen stuff, captions, and cards, so fear not!  Those will be corrected.

Thank you to each and every one of you for your continued support!

Heads up!  This post was edited with a new upload to address an ...

Finally coming together

It took me longer than I care to admit to come up with a solution for this demonstration.  You might be able to tell what this is aiming to demonstrate, but if not, it will all become apparent when the next video is up.  Thank you to everyone for your support!

A quick video on the way

Hey there!

I'm working on a quick video showcasing this...thing.  I wanted to include this in my previous video but it ended up getting lost temporarily.

I know that I said my next video would be on Philo Farnsworth and the invention of Electronic Television, and I am working on it!  But, it's gonna take many hours of editing, whereas I can get this one done easily.  The length of the video will be around five minutes.

Thank you so much for your support...

Thank you!

Wow, I never expected the reaction I've received from starting this page!  Thank you to everyone who's pledged so far!  I'm incredibly excited to keep this project going.  You're helping make that happen, and for that I am immensely grateful.

Again, many thanks!

Hello!

Well, here I am!  As I said in the video, I'm new to this and don't really know what I'm doing...

That said, please note that my time to commit to videos is still limited until December.  I probably won't have time to do too much with rewards and all that, so please accept my advance apologies.  As available time goes up, so will my commitment to management.  You know, cause if you want to be a full time YouTuber, you kinda need to do more than just upload videos.
