Hey. I think it's time we talk about our slow 120V kettles. Because they're still the best water boily poury things - people just don't seem to know that.
https://youtu.be/_yMMTVVJI4c
I have no idea how you'll like this video. It's been kicking around in my head forever, and I hit a wall with something I was working on so this was a "rip cord" video. It still took far too long because I was tortured by t...

Helloooooo!
Now I present to you one hour and fifteen minutes of, drumroll please;
content
All of the footage we recorded (ok, well most) lightly edited for your viewing pleasure. There's outtakes. There's behind-the-scenes magic. There's banter. And most importantly! There's opinions about Corvettes.
[Edit]: There's some mild profanity in this! You may not want to watch with little ones.

Hello everybody! I've got a video for you. Warning: there is some mild (but I think fair) Tesla angst in it, although recent news threw that for a loop!
https://youtu.be/sZOuz_laH9I
I took a little vacation for the road trip (obviously) and this was stuck in re-write hell for a long time. Actually, $5+ patrons; be on the lookout for a behind-the-scenes post where I explore my writing process because I've come to ...

Good evendaymorningtime!
Today we're visiting photography again, and with the help of one of your compatriots, I have a really neat thing to show you. Color photos from potatoes!

Thanks ever so much to Jon Hilty for lending me the plates you see throughout the video. This was so fun to make, and really cool to see! Never did I imagine this process could produce such lifeli...

Woof. This video has been a struggle. But it's done!
https://youtu.be/43XKfuptnik
This last week has seen rewrites, voiceover recordings, logistical challenges, and missing shots all collide into a heap of frustration. I was hoping to have the video complete long before today, alas here we are. I almost considered splitting this up again - it's long! - but so many of the issues discussed here are interconnected, ...

I decided to merge our ideas regarding what to do with part 2. I think I will leave it available, but I'll definitely change the title and add some notes to it. I altered the script here so that I don't explicitly say I won't unlist it, but I'm not ruling that out entirely. I'll think about it in the in...

Hello!
I've been working on a script which is getting quite long and I'm wondering if you think it makes sense to split this up. We are revisiting the heat pump because I'm not happy with where I left things the last time I tackled it as a topic, and they're suddenly very important.
I want to take part 2 down because I feel it's misleading. As a refresher, in it I talked mainly about ground source heat pumps and some innovations in that space, and implied that they're the future. ...

Yeah, I'm basically releasing a video which is all about nuance and which doesn't firmly take a position either way. I'm sure that'll go over just dandy!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsIFxyOLJXM
In seriousness, I thought this would be a good thing to explore. I have some reservations about the video - specifically I don't know how much background was really necessary, and so I'll be putting in c...

So, uh, well I thought I could have the video I'm working on complete by last night but thanks to not being able to do much beyond the talking head trim-down and a number of other odd little hiccups, it'll probably be Wednesday. Maybe tomorrow, depends on how today goes.
Since today's that day and I didn't have anything to show for it, I wanted to give you this update. But stuff is coming soon...

And I'll also write some things.
That's the new version of the Starlink antenna. Here at HQ I have a flat roof, which has finally come in a bit of handy. I have to secure the wire at some point but I'm putting this firmly in "good enough" as far as how it's installed. I very much doubt it will move, and it's been through a lot of wind and a snowstorm already. Also, it's pointing Northward, and seems to always do so, so I'll be moving it around a bit to try and optimize obstructions. The...

This post comes to you through Low Earth Orbit. There have been many developments!
First of all, I have a backlog of messages to go through and I've tackled some but not all. I usually try to respond to everyone, and I'm working through that slowly but surely.
Secondly, my move is mostly complete! I still have some organizing to do, as well as figuring-out-where-things-are-and-where-to-put-stuff but the big-ticket items are done, and I no longer have to be coordinating various wha...

We’re really making some grand openings for 2022 with this one:

Here we have a simpler, sillier video to start the new year. Someone recommended I tackle this topic but as I said that was a long time ago and I don’t have any clue who it was. It resurfaced out of necessity, and it has been a surprising eye-opener. Can opener. Right.
This video has a, let’s be real, somewhat...

I'll readily admit that this video isn't among my best work. I've been tied up a lot the last couple of weeks and wanted to get something out fast. And I didn't do a lot of the stuff I normally do. Here's a very slightly spoilery photo for you (daguerreotypes aren't really the subject - photography itself is). I noticed while setting up this shot how just the small change in angle from the camera to my eyes caused the image to appear normal to my eyes but inverted on the screen.
I've got a lot of progress made on this video and may be able to get it up for you tomorrow!

Hi!
I have a video just for you. I very nearly made a video about this camera, but haven't decided how I want to first introduce the subject of analog photography. Should we go before the days of film and get into the really obscure stuff like... camera obscura (see what I did there?) or should we start with something like a box camera (a la Kodak Brownie)? Or maybe start with 35mm and work our way backwards? I don't know!
But I do know this is one of my very (favorite) came...
