Fucked up demo

When I was in Dorset recording Three Futures, I stayed part of the time in my producer Rob's flat, which actually belongs to PJ Harvey. So there I was, looking out the window where Polly herself sat when she wrote Stories From the City and Dry (I think I've got that right.) I was on a budget and trying to be resourceful so I went down to the water (the flat is right on the sea) and cast a net. It took a long time but I caught five fish. When I brought them back up to the flat I realized I did...

A Day In the Life

In the morning I'm always excited. Coffee, breakfast, and a new beginning feel probable and within my reach between the hours of 8 and 11 am. I answer some emails and take a couple of calls for interviews. I rest for five minutes to have a think. AH! Here comes the anxiety! WNYC on in the background... political monstrosities...plagues...murders... everything is burning...prioritizing the need to be informed over my need for sanity is a constant source of stress. The autumn months have been filled with joy, hard work, a lot more work, and some playing, too. I moved in with my girlfriend, went on a (SOLO ACOUSTIC!) tour with Superchunk, saw Fried Green Tomatoes for the very first time (instant favorite), have continued to work my behind off at my bartending/serving job, went to Georgia to celebrate my grandmother’s 93rd birthday, and now I’m beginning rehearsals with my band for upcoming TOUR DATES. If you can keep it between us, I’ve also got a ...

Happy October 1st! This month is big. I’ve been waiting a long time for this month. Why, you ask? Will there be new music, you ask? What I can tell you is, ready or not, here I come.

As I prepare to release another album into the world and as I mentally train for the days and nights ahead of being on the road, performing, self-promoting, days where I’m going to be so thrilled to be where I am, meeting all of you and seeing the world, but also so sad to be away from my love, Jenna, and my sweet, aging parents, and my perfect 14-years-young cat, Little Bat, I take in the days as gleefully and as ravenously as I possibly can, knowing that I’m going to be busy soon enough...
