Welcome To Eltingville Series Plot: The Renaissance Affair

Here's the last of the unused plots that were part of the Welcome to Eltingville series bible. This one was something that I had in my files for possible use as a comic story. It's another "Josh vs the Club" bit but written large, as they are dragged along in a bitter feud between two warring nerd camps, all of who are carrying homemade weapons. It's the biggest and messiest of the proposed plots and I would have wanted this one to be a series finale because of its mock-epic story. I would h...

My Drawing Hand

Folks who have been here a while or have followed me over the years on social media know about the problems I've had with my hand (and arm, and shoulder, and neck). I answered a question about my drawing hand in the comments section of my last post, and ended up going into detail, so I thought I'd repost it just as general information, with some additions.

I have carpal tunnel syndrome in my hand/wrist, from the repetitive motion from drawing/typing over time. I also have degener...

Quick Update

Finished and sent off my second EC/Oni script for the Catacomb of Torment series. I think I did five drafts on it, with a page rewritten almost at the last minute. I think it's better for it. I was really happy with the first script when I turned it in. I'm worried about this one. I feel like there's places it might have gone wrong, I don't have a lot of faith in it. Maybe I'll feel better about tomorrow. Anyway, it's in with the editor and will go through the EC estate and then I'll find out...

Welcome To Eltingville Series Plot: The Incredible Two-Headed Fanboy

We're almost done with the rundown of episode plots I submitted for the proposed Welcome to Eltingville Adult Swim series. This is the next-to-last entry, entitled "The Incredible Two-Headed Fanboy". This one is a take-off on several ridiculous horror movies such as The Incredible Two-Headed Transplant (1971), The Thing With Two Heads (1972, which makes an appearance in the pilot) and The Manster (aka The Split and The Two-Headed Killer, 1959). From the titles alone, the running theme here is...

Butchie Card Art

The winning bidder for the Instant Piano/Eltingville Club charity auction picked Butchie Mofo for me to draw. Which was definitely a surprise pick. I've only drawn him three times before, in three panels of the Eltingville epilogue. The drawing is on 4" x 6" card stock.

Butchie is arguably the worst character out of a cast of terrible characters, and, as said, only appears in three panels of the epilogue. A lot of his vileness might not show clearly on the page, but I thought of him as ...

Possible Heads Up

I've been officially invited to a convention, first time in a long time. It's one of the promotions that holds events in multiple locations and I have my choice of a few different cities. I'm thinking about it, and thinking about which location might work best if I can take advantage of the offer.

I've also been asked to do another small, local con in my area.

And it looks like I'm doing a Halloween signing at a comic shop (that's not in my area).

More when I know more. View Post

FYI: For New Backers

There are hundreds of posts here, many of which are unlocked for all tiers. I know many new backers are fans of The Eltingville Club, so, keep that in mind and use the search function. In case you haven't found them yet, there are three posts of storyboards for the Welcome to Eltingville pilot (by Stephen DeStefano). Links to the three posts are below, along with a random post with art from the pilot. Typing "Eltingville" will net you a lot of posts to check out from both the...

Pro Tip: On Writing

I'm having problems with a short comic script I'm working on for Oni/EC, and today I was blocked up, trying to fix a plot point. I felt overwhelmed, with too many conflicting notes and ideas and mental noise getting in the way of going forward. I was mainly stuck for connective tissue between segments, and working out the basic logic for the plot conceit.

I was also trying to find things that would help build up the characters a bit more, which, in an eight-pager, often involves visual...

Welcome To Eltingville Series Plot: Down In The Dumps

This is the third post covering the unproduced episode plots from the Welcome to Eltingville series bible. "Down In The Dumps" sees the Club exploring the Eltingville Landfill in search of a lost toy accessory. The dump was based on the Fresh Kills Landfill on Staten Island, which was the world's largest landfill at the time it was closed in 2001. It covered 2200 acres, which didn't include all the white trash spread around the forgotten borough. Ha ha. You can see the edge of the Eltingville...

Two New eBay Auctions

The Instant Piano auction proceeds will be donated to Trans Lifeline/ https://translifeline.org

As a bonus item I'll be drawing a b&w index card drawing of whichever Eltingville or Northwest character the high bidder requests.

Milks and Cheeses

I drew a lot of Milks and Cheeses for the cover of the Dark Horse collection. Most of them didn't make it to the cover, so, I thought you folks might like to see the big page of them. Also, the lettering for the center image. Looks like a sheet of Milk & Cheese tattoo flash.

I am itching to do a new M&C strip, but haven't found the time. I'm behind on a bunch of things, recently two non-comics projects got into gear and I've been dealing with meetings, e-mails and NDAs (the latt...

New Jerry Stokes Card Drawing on eBay

New on eBay: Blank-eyed Jerry Stokes, member of the Eltingville Club and Secretary of Fantasy and Role-playing Games, telling it like it is.

I upgraded the blank index cards to try out a same-sized 3" x 5" cardstock. The new paper takes the ink and markers better than the index cards, so whoo-hoo and huzzah and all that stuff.

Back to work. And cleaning the studio. Whoo-hoo.

Welcome To Eltingville Series Pilot Plot: Bring Me The Head Of Boba Fett

Continuing the rundown of the episode plots submitted for the proposed Welcome to Eltingville Adult Swim series.

The plot for the pilot was included in the episodes section of the series bible. It's very close to the finished episode, except for the "Skywalker Ranch" bit that was in the first act but was cut for time. My plan was to take the gag and expand it into an entire episode, with one of the Club members mailed off to Skywalker Ranch and successfully infiltrating it during a stor...

Good News

Had a follow-up appointment with my gastroenterologist about my colonoscopy and the polyp they found was benign. I wasn't nervous about it until last night, and had trouble getting to sleep. I assumed it wasn't going to be a big deal but you never know, and now I know, so, yay.

Doing the last podcast on my schedule tonight, a general comics site so not a targeted topic like my last two (Mad Dog, Predator).

Upcoming Podcast/Interview

I just finished recording an interview with the folks at the Aliens Vs Predator Galaxy website for their podcast. Derek Thompson was also on hand as we discussed the Predator: Bad Blood mini-series that we collaborated on for Dark Horse Comics back in 1993. We didn't talk much about the Predator series I penciled in 1991, Predator: Big Game, which was fine by me (it's still the best-selling comic series I've ever worked on and ever will work on, despite my amateurish art).

Derek left c...

New Northwest Drawing on eBay: Rodney Crabbe

New on eBay: Rodney Crabbe, all mouth and no talent member of The Northwest Comix Collective. Don't listen to what Rodney says about art, look at what he actually writes and draws. Of course, if you don't like what he does, that's because you just don't understand good comics. Don't bother arguing with him, he knows better than you do, because he feels and you're ignorant. Funny how that works.

Welcome To Eltingville Series Plot: The Big Spree

I just found a file that has the episode plots submitted for the proposed Welcome to Eltingville Adult Swim series.

I completely forgot that "The Big Spree" plot was part of the Eltingville series bible. I recognized it as a plot I reused for the first script I wrote for the Bart Simpson comic series published by Bongo. It was basically the same plot, with Bart in place of Josh, and the Springfield cast, of course. It ran in Bart Simpson #31, published in August, 2006, with the title, ...

Coming Soon: Catacomb Of Torment #2

Some August solicitations have been posted online, so I guess I can finally let you folks know that I've written an 8-page story for the revived EC Comics line published by Oni Press. My story will be in the second issue of a new title, Catacomb of Torment, which will ship on August 20th. The artist illustrating the story is Lukas Ketner, who has worked on Witch Doctor, Count Crowley and other comics.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the script. I'm pretty happy with the ...

Four Years Ago Today

I had my last outdoor playdate with "the little girl", soon to be known as Winky the Pirate Girl.

A friend of mine was going to adopt Winky, but Winky had other plans. A few hours after I took the outdoor pictures, she ran into the house while Sarah was going out and basically adopted us. Our kid was the one who made the ruling decision to keep her -- "let's try it and see what happens". The other photos above are the first of Winky in the house. I almost busted out crying, I was so ha...

Update 5/14/25

Hey, folks. Things are going to be a bit slow this coming week or two, due to my colonoscopy and a family member recovering from surgery. Also, my increasingly busy workload. I'm trying to get a bunch of things done this month so the Patreon might be a little light on posts this month.

Or not! I'm just letting you know things are hectic for a number of reasons.

Yesterday was the fourth-year anniversary of my first meeting Winky the Pirate Cat. I had come home from an appointment -- I think it was a therapy appointment -- and as I parked the car in front of the house this little cat trotted by on the sidewalk.

Sarah had told me that she saw a little cat outside earlier in the week, so I assumed this was the same little gremlin. I called to the cat and it came directly over. I played with her and she followed me up our front stairs and I gave h...

What I Use To Draw/Make Comics (All The Rest Of The Stuff)

Photo 1) THE DRAWING TABLE. Mine sucks. It was what I could afford at the time and it sucks. Things are made so cheaply now, everything you can actually afford is designed to break, and it doesn't take long for it to happen. I hope to replace it someday, preferably with a vintage table if I can afford it. I loved the one I had before but it was very large, heavy and hard to move into an old house so I gave up on it. This one has been falling apart for years, there's a lot of ...

Beasts of Burden Omnibus For Sale?

I got my comp copies of the Omnibus from Dark Horse a few weeks ago, but didn't open up either of the boxes until today. I don't know where I'm going to put them until I have time to pull copies to sell on the Patreon.

I don't know when I'll have time to make signed/sketched copies available. I think I have 20 copies, I'm probably going to take ten out of the batch, and when time allows, offer them for sale to backers at the $5 and $10 tiers. It won't happen in May, that's for sure. Thi...
