Heeeey!
Today we are continuing our explorations into the world of abstract hair simulations in Houdini :) In this tutorial we will talk about hair deform and hair advect, use vellum to inflate a few spheres and generate advected hair on this expanding mesh.
Hope you'll like it!
As I promised - this week we will continue exploring hairs, but use animated geometry for our setup :)

P.S. As G-Shock watch model was bought from Turbosquid, I cannot include it in project files I share.
Hey hey heeey!
Today we are creating this really cool scene with RBD Rocks driven by velocity of the FLIP particles :) Originally done by Sketchy Visuals in Cinema4D and XParticles, and by the way, he has a TON of amazing content, even if you don't use Cinema, he explains a lot of Octane tricks too, so definitely check out his channe...

On my latest stream Jonathan asked how we can recreate this effect done by Sketchy Visuals (originally done in C4D and X-Particles) in Houdini :) Had tough time getting this done with vellum fluid on stream, but eventually found a way to use flip fluid and don't go too deep into the fluid physics haha.

I know you've been waiting for this one :) uploading it earlier so you guys can dive into this tutorial and learn more about Houdini hairs!
This is the first part of my explorations about houdini hair system, the goal was to get closer to the look done by MvsM for Apple Eye Candy Project. In this tutorial we explore all the hair generation foundations and use advection to guide our hair strands around certain...
Hey hey heeeey!
So here is a great example why I wanted to switch to 3 tutorials per month sometime hehe, this took a lot of time to wrap my head around, and I am not even done yet, just got the static look from MvsM cotton. Don't know the exact artist who did this RnD, so if you know, hit me up, would love to connect. And this is not even the bucket render, but looookkk aat theeese lil strands :))))
Of course will be doing more tests on how to incorporate this into sim, ex...
Hey guys! Ill be streaming this Thursday, answering your questions from the Questions W1 thread and doing some cotton candy (like MvsM did recently) research :)
Ill post a YT link soon and the stream will be recorder.
If you wish - post any of your questions to that thread till tomorrow Wednesday evening :)

Heyy guys! This tutorial was requested in Discord, a bit different application of the technique, but shares the same concept and looks pretty cool :)
With this setup we are constantly changing the geometry while the RBD simulation is going, so there is a lot of room to experiment and come up with amazing creative ideas.
Check it out!

Heeeeya guys!
Finally im back on track and here is another awesome Houdini tutorial!
I found this artwork by Travis Ragsdale a while ago and wanted to create something similar. As always - drifted away and added a bunch of different stuff to the initial idea of viscous grains on terrain with curl noise.
Hope you ll enjoy it!
Please write down any specific questions you would like me to cover (Houdini, Redshift, 3D design in general, freelance, whatever) in the next livestream. I cannot guarantee that I will be able to go over all the questions and probably won't be able to answer how "to do this Avatar scene of volcano eruption" :D
Livestream will be recorded and ill post the link here. Ill set the date and time soon!
Thank you!
And here you will find the project files for the latest tutorial :)

Hey guys,
In the beginning of this tutorial, I talk about some changes in the schedule of our tutorials. The beginning of this year was harsh, and I think I just was so excited that tried to jump over my head with the tutorial that I SHOULD had been recorded 2 days ago. Its sad. But it seems like i'm just a human and not a tutorial-machine, and when i push it further and make something more complex - i need time to digest it myself, and only than i will be able to pass this knowledge. 2023-01-06 16:27:56 +0000 UTC View Post
Hey guys.. I'm Nick! haha
I wanted to share this moment with all of you.
You already opened this post, so you I assume, you have a minute right now, so why won't just take another one and look back to see what an amazing journey it was this year. For you, my friend.
Maybe, It wasn't easy, it required a lot of decisions to be made, a lot of actions, a lot of things you said, a lot of things you didn't, but it led your here, exactly in that moment where you are rig...

Heeya guys! Ill be streaming this Thursday, everyone is welcome! Ask questions and discuss all kinds of stuff - 3D, career, business, weather, secret santa gift ideas, your favourite meals, redshift vs octane, rbd vs bullet, and so on :DD In the meantime i will be also doing some stuff in Houdini, just small setups here and there.
If someone (I know we are all in around the globe here) cannot attend - ill upload a recording too, so no worries!
Will be lovely to see everyone ...

Today we are exploring some interesting tricks with Pop Attract :)
This is the last tut in this year, need to recharge a bit, but tune in next Thursday on my livestream.
More info following :))

Hey guys! In this tutorial we will create, id say pretty interesting, yet beginner friendly weaving setup, using dynamic constraints and also some Redshift shader work :)
Hope you enjoy!
Needs a bit of postfx too haha :)

Its a low-q preview, but still wanted to share with you guys! Its not a strip render, but as amaru suggested, i've added a lot of very very thin strands and applied some pretty extreme procedural bump map so we lost the too-regular cgi-ish perfection in the strands.
What do you think?
2022-12-06 19:21:29 +0000 UTC View PostHelp me decide :) Cylinders(left) look more realistic, but I also love how chaotic and abstract strands(right) are.
