Production Notebook - 9/17/20

I've been wading through reference material since the beginning of the year. Compartmentalizing it into categories. Deleting stuff I don't need. And most importantly, reducing how much I collect on a regular basis. 

When I re-designed Chad from Jockstrap Academy, I did it mostly from my reference mood boards. The big nostrils were a godsend, the hoodie and singlet really solidified his personality - the singlet doesn't leave much to the imagination, he can wear it up or down depend...

I always wanted Leo to have a lot of hair, but gave him a short 'do in the original comic because it was easier to draw. Most of the aesthetic choices in 12-Inch was very late 70's - early 80's (corded telephones, console TVs, etc) because thats when some of my favorite sitcoms were based.

12-Inch Roommate - Chapter Loglines

The goal in rebooting 12-Inch Roommate was to create more fully realized stories. The original comic started as scribbles with not much concern for narrative or character and it evolved into something with more direction. So, this time around I wanted to start with stories that were as strong as possible.

Production Notebook - 9/13/20

It feels like every time I start to get into a groove of productivity with my comics, everything else in my world collapses around me shortly after. I tell myself that I'm just not organized enough or my routine isn't strong enough - which maybe true - but it is also just as likely that too many things are flying at me at once. However, I am really enjoying this new 12-Inch journey and am dedicated to getting it back on track.

Work and life has unexpectedly picked up over the last few weeks which was slowed my drawing and writing substantially, so as I catch back up and stabilize my time I am going to pause patron payments for August.

Sketchbook - from last week

An Update on Sales Tax

I wanted to address some changes that may affect some of the pledges on Patreon. Due to new laws passing in several countries and US states, Patreon will be required to start charging sales tax on some pledges starting July 1st. 

Less than half of all patrons will be charged sales tax, and for most, the amount will be very small. For example, sales tax rates in the US range from 4% to 11%, so on a $5 pledge, that would be between 20 cents and 55 cents.

Been using some old scenarios and images to explore the new 12-Inch character designs. I spent pretty much the entire Memorial Day weekend locking them down and working on upcoming strips. 

While I really enjoy doing them in black and white I may do a story or two in color.

Monthly Blog - "Rising Signs"
