A Brief Update and a Thank You

So I am working on bringing the next part of the dambusters video out PDQ - I'm about 15 minutes into the edit, and it should be about 45 minutes when I'm done. Hence this rather fetching cover art, which will feature for about a nano second.

In the meantime I just wanted to say thank you for subscribing on YouTube and following me on here, I have just over 75k subs now, which given that almost exactly two years ago I had less than 200 is pretty mental. Thank you.

Now, would it...

Hamburg 1943

I've been doing some hunting around for footage for the dambusters series, and of course I came across various films taken by Bomber Command of their raids into Germany. In particular Operation Films 96-103, which are of the bombing of Hamburg on24/25/26/27 July 1943. This was the first firestorm in a major city since Lubeck, and due to piss poor planning by the Nazi authorities, lack of preparedness inf firefighting and shelters, and wind, it killed 30,000+

This is then, at viewer dis...

Operation Chastise

Well hello again! In my last update, I said I was working to a date in May, and a few folks guessed what was going on... I have written the scripts for not one, not two but three episodes on the Bomber War, and specifically 1943 and Operation Chastise. All being well I'll release them in time for the 82nd Anniversary of the raids, which feels remarkably organised of me, so stand by for something to go wrong....

I hope to have all three recorded and edited in the next two-three weeks a...

A quick update

Hello! Hopefully this makes it to you through the blizzard of updates...a quick check in, I took a few weeks off to just reset (well, play BG3 and use Jenkin's famous Rhubarb Eau de Vie to strip the paint off a shelving unit) – now done. Research and writing now resumes, but there will be a lag, so bear with me.

Next video upload will be a super cut of Kohima, then we’ll finish the campaign, probably in one episode. I'm also working on a video that *might* get in the way as it’s ...

It's here!

Hello my lovley subscribers, I hope this post Valentine’s day message finds you hail and hearty and sore in all the right places!

After much struggling, late nights and a hell of a lot of reading, my Imphal series is finally done. Part three is here in which we look at the Battle of Kohima, the turning point for the British and Indian forces in Burma and an epic story in its own right. I am actually really pleased (for once) with how this turned out so I hope you enjoy it too. A...

A bit of news

Hello to you, wonderful, interesting, articulate, attractive, and amazing folks! I am working hard on figuring out the schedule for this year and editing the next video (working title 'Go Go Dancing Up The Imphal Road'), which I hope to have with you next week. BUT this Friday I have a very special interview with the author of Forgotten Armour, Jash Bowsher, which we recorded over Christmas. It's a lot of fun, I learnt loads and we had a great chat. Keep your eyes peeled!

A Festive Update

Hello folks - I just wanted to let you guys know that I will be trying to record and get edited a video in time for Christmas but...well....time is going to be a bit tight. It is written, but I'm away for the next week for work which is going to make mic time hard.....however I will do my level best.

I've posted a schedule to YT, which hopefully you've seen - basically I've got far too much on Kohima and it's build up, nothing on Imphal at all and thus I think we're looking at three e...

77th Infantry Brigade (Chindits) After Action Report

Beautiful Patreon supporters, I thought that you would appreciate this - it's the original report by Orde Wingate following the first Chindit operation - Longcloth - in 1943. It is a work of historical fiction, basically having been created to justify Orde's actions and, he thought when he was writing it, stop him from facing a courts martial. It was sent directly to Churchill by Orde, totally against regulations, and resulted in Wingate going to Canada as part of Churchill's retenue in Augus...

It Is Written

Howdy folks,

Just thought I'd quickly check in and thank you, sort-of-personally, for your on-going support. I have been working feverishly on getting new episodes ready to go, and done a fair amount of tweaking to what I've already written.

The plan, assuming all goes well, is to record the first of two, yes TWO, Chindit episodes on Friday (if my voice holds out, I might just do both) and then start to edit them.

Meanwhile I have written the first phase of the Imphal ba...

A Quick Update

So firstly thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support during this recess period, I really do appreciate it.

The episodes on the Chindits are written, just need a minor edit and I'll start recording them, the episode(s) on Ha-Go (Operation C) and U-Go (Operation Z) aka Kohima and Imphal are starting up now the bulk of research is done. I have no earthly clue exactly how long that'll take, it's massively complex and I'm trying to condense roughly 8 books into a managable form...

And then it got worse...

So after basically two weeks of furiously writing, I have finished the script for the Chindits Episode, working title "And Then It Got Worse..." - which is excellent and bad all at the same time. I had planned to also cover the Burma Independence Army, the Indian National Army, SOE and V-Force. Sadly I have had to shelve all four, as the Chindits bit on it's own is sitting at 11,500 words, so roughly 1hr 20 of content and...yeah...that's a lot.

I was particularly excited to talk about...

Hello you wonderful humans, and especially to those of you who've decided to join up recently!

I have completed recording Episode 3 of the Burma campaign, and editing is happening (currently at 21 minutes out of 60) - but will be slightly disrupted due to real life stuff including some time sitting on a beach doing bugger all. This has been quite a tough one to pull together, not least because it has required maps, which I'm super chuffed to say I have now figured out how to do, so prepare yourself for lots of flags moving around etc, but which take *forever* to do and a lot of photo hunting.
