Difference between watercolor grades

Today is a little watercolor paint grade talk.

There is two grades: artists and students. Also there is some cheap stuff that is mostly for kids and school and not really good for artworks you want to use, store, exhibit or anything.

So, basically, watercolor is made of pigment and binder. For artists grade paints paint factories use better and more expensive pigments (so it's brighter and clearer) and better binder, that's why it's so expensive. It has more lightfastness (that means tha...

Which brushes to use?

Which brushes are better for watercolors? Let's talk about that.

1. Squirrel brushes.

These brushes are doing really well with watercolors when you prefer any loose techniques without pointy details. Yes, it still can do details, but its really soft and you can't control your strokes perfectly. So if you need to fill a large space or drawing large flowers for example - it's the best brush for that, because it holds a lot of water and paint inside the hair

My instagram follower makes handmade watercolors and sent me some neon watercolors to try, I'm having some fun with it. After using them even the super bright watercolors like Opera or Vermilion Hue look dull and not so bright ohhh my world won't be the same. Will post the result soon on my instagram with my review!

Paper talk - cotton or cellulose?

A lot of people think that if you're a "real" watercolor artist you have to use super fancy expensive 100% cotton paper. And I want to explain why it's not actually the case.

Yeah, obviously cotton paper is very good (otherwise it won't be so pricey). But! it actually eats bright colors. You may remember that I told it in my DS video where I paint on Canson Heritage paper.

Having the worst experience right now using Art-n-Fly watercolors for the actual illustration. Seriously guys if you're really interested in watercolors please spend a few more bucks on at least students grade paints, it's a whole new world. I fully understand now the struggles of people who start and hate watercolors immediately *sigh*

Liners I use

Here goes a stuff about liners I currently use or used? stopped but still haveuse sometimes.

As you can notice I mostly use red, violet and sepia liners, though I have a lot of black one (that just happened, they were sent to me to try out and I use them mostly as a writing pens). Why? Artnfly brushes

Do you remember how I tried Artnfly stuff, was angry af about their watercolor quality but told that their round brushes are quite ok?

So, here is an update.

Yep they are ok but... for like 2-3 weeks of using (A LOT). After that they lose their shape. It's pretty obviously because the quality of hair is poor (so that's why it's cheap) and it damages by water and paint and process itself. Anyway I recommend to buy three-four better quality brushes that will keep their shape for months and...

Stuff I tried this month and favorites

Let's make this month's conclusions with stuff I tried and other fav things :D This month's favorite color for me is... actually two, Holbein's mineral violet (I didn't notice before, but it splits beautifully to warm and cool violet ohhh so pretty!) and Shinhan PWC vermillion (yeah, definitely, after Cotman's cadmium red hue it's like an other world :D).
