After defeating their rival Baekje at the Battle of Gwansanseong in 554, Silla was preoccupied with conquering the Gaya confederacy in the south. Small Gaya states fell down like dominoes in the face of the rising power of Silla. In September 562, Banpaguk (modern Goryeong고령), the last stronghold of Gaya, rebelled against Silla. King Jinheug (re. 540~576) of Silla ordered to subdue the region. Along with the seasoned general Isabu (이사부) and the young elite warrior Sadaham (사...

Based on the famous mural of Chiik Nahb Structure Sub 1-4 at Calakmul. Eduardo Salazar proposed a new reconstruction of this blue, transparent huipil. He suggested that the one side of the huipil should have been slit open. It will make a large portion of the garment loose. The wearer could've gathered this loose part and draped over her arms like a toga. This would completely expose the significant part of the lower body, particularly the buttocks and thighs.

Official regalia of the Huey Tlatoani (great ruler) of Tenochtitlan, primarily based on Fernando Alvarado Tezozomoc's "Cronica Mexicana" (1598)
This is an updated version of my previous infographic made in 2019. This is the regalia that Mexica rulers would wear to important ceremonies and state events such as their coronation, and inauguration of temples.

Mighty god Huehuecoyotl is wielding his most potent weapon!
=====
Huehuecoyotl is the Nahua god of music, dance, mischief, and song. He is the patron of uninhibited sexuality. His appearance here is primarily based on Codex Borgia. He is holding a gourd rattle (ayacachtli) on his left hand. On the original image he is wearing a loincloth (maxtlatl) under his hip-cloth (tzinipilli), but here I omitted the loincloth becau...

First and foremost, I apologize for my inactivity. Despite being released from the hospital, I was still absent this month. This is why.
Although I have been released, the infection has not been completely eradicated. Instead of injecting antibiotics intravenously, the doctor prescribed antibiotic tablets. And the negative side effects are still present. For nearly two weeks, I suffered from severe headaches, hyperventilation, and fatigue. I could not do anything. It was due to severe a...

Citlalin lives near the great tianquiztli (marketplace) of Tlatelolco. She goes to the market almost every day to chat with friends and interact with her potential customers. She loves the lively atmosphere of the market and conducts most of her business there.

Gauze-weave transparent huipil and skirt are used in Postclassic Central Mexico. Although the combination of both garments is not seen ...

2023-11-02 12:52:21 +0000 UTC View PostThe MRI result came out very positive, so I will be discharged tomorrow! I was fully expecting to be discharged next year, so this is a pleasant surprise. Two months of hospitalization are finally over! I was wearing shorts and flip-flops when I first came here. Now I have to wear a coat because it’s quite windy out there. It’s really emotional. Guys, staph infection is no joke. I mean, any type of infection has to be taken very seriously. Go to the hospital as fast as you can.

Gim Inpyeong likes to read classic scriptures and literature as a nobleman’s refinement. He is known as a bibliophile since he frequently buys pricey imported books from China in large quantities. However, he doesn’t care about the boring etiquette required for reading. The greatest benefit of privacy is that you can do whatever you want. Gim Inpyeong often takes that to the extreme, even when reading books.

Inpyeong’s clothing is based on the recently excavated Silla tomb, Jjoksaemjigu Tomb No. 44 (쪽샘지구 44호분). The National Museum of Gyeongju has conducted an archaeological survey of this tomb since 2014, and they published a final report in July 2023. This tomb was built in the late 5th century, and its owner is a young princess around the age of ten. The intricate pattern of In...

The relapsed abscess hasn't improved, so I’m likely getting a surgery AGAIN. The last two months of hospitalization have been a complete waste of time. So I'm thinking about transferring to another hospital after I recover from the operation.
It's really depressing…It seems very likely that I will not get out of hospital within this year.

Death of Tenochca Tlatoani Chimalpopoca (re. 1415~1426)
According to “official” Mexica history, Chimalpopoca was assassinated by Maxtla of Azcapotzalco. However, based on circumstantial evidence and sources from the other viewpoint, it is more likely that Itzcoatl, later tlatoani of Tenochtitlan, incited a coup and killed their own king. Tlacopan could have been an accomplice, because they became the capital of Tepanecapan after the Tepaneca War (1426~1430).
2023-10-08 03:07:21 +0000 UTC View PostThe abscess has relapsed. Doctors no longer give me precise discharge date and instead say everything vaguely. Discharge has been postponed indefinitely. I don’t know what to say. One thing is certain: I won't be able to leave this room this month.

2023-09-23 13:47:21 +0000 UTC View PostMy recent MRI scan was reviewed by the doctor. The bad news is that I won't be able to leave the hospital tomorrow. It has been rescheduled to two weeks later. The scan revealed that the inflammation is still present.
The good news is that this isn't a relapse. Because the lesion was so widespread, they were unable to entirely remove the inflamed tissue during the surgery. Surgery helps the healing process of the abscess, but the one finishes the job is the antibiotics. And these remain...

This was a HUGE project I planned for months. Carlos Santamarina Novillo’s groundbreaking studies about the Tepanec Empire inspired me to make this map. I wanted this map to be educational, so I added the basic informations about the empire. Overall style and aesthetics are inspired from Central Mexican codices such as Codex Mendoza and Codex Xolotl.
