Your exhaustion over defending Sinners is a deliberate tactic. While we're busy explaining and justifying ourselves we're unable to truly celebrate. Its intentional.

i definitely have a mix of emotions with this situation. i’m obviously annoyed and frustrated with bafta and everyone involved that enabled or encouraged this situation. apparently they placed a microphone next to john knowing DAMN well what he’s capable of. moreover i’m hurt for delroy lindo ,mbj and the other black victims that had to be subjected to the treatment they endured. it’s so annoying and frustrating how at every level a black person gets to, they still must be subjected to racism and discrimination. and on top of that, we ca never be upset about it even though we’ve been dealing with it for CENTURIES. i will say that the amount of ableist comments and remarks made my is insane as well. i literally saw a tweet the other day where the person said something along the lines of “well since ppl can freely say the n word. then everyone can say the r word!” like…huh? how it that okay? that’s where i tweeted you do know black people with disabilities exist right?? i fee like white people who are trying to pacify john are being racist asf and don’t see black people as human. and people who are using this moment to be ableist aren’t acting in good faith. at the end of the day john, and the bafta’s should’ve apologized A LONG time ago and the fact that they didn’t is very telling. people can be empathetic to his condition but they DO NOT have to take racist remarks especially without an apology!

Abisoye

2 things: 1. White people so desperately want to be seen as victims because they think victimhood is cool, so they have been pushing this disability/spectrum rhetoric. They see racism as a "cool" thing that Black people get to "use" as a crutch that gets them sympathy, or as a thing that BP can use to get global attention. A thing that allows Black people to publicly be angry at the world and people have to be ok with outward anger cause racism is wrong. They "want in" on this victimhood "privilege" and the only thing that they can claim without getting any push back is having a disability, one that no one can see or question it's authenticity. They think it's cool that BP are victims on a grand scale and people are paying attention to BP and their plight. They think they are being ignored like a stepchild and they want attention. Like Munchausen. 2. This whole ordeal is reminding me of Moonlight. A cool achievement that is being overshadowed by drama. Once again Black people's accomplishments and a moment to highlight Black people can't be discussed because white people have stolen that stage time. A true tragedy.

The man gave a statement. Not an apology, just a statement. However the internet, which throws disabled people by the wayside every chance it gets, will suddenly jump at the chance to say that he apologized.

The thing that’s irking my nerves about this situation is that no one worth listening to is blaming the guy for being disabled. What’s being criticized is how this was allowed to happen in the first place and how it was handled. Someone saying “Free Palestine” gets muted, but a white man conveniently shouting Nigger while two black men are on stage gets kept in??? That’s suspicious. That’s weird. And then on top of that, I’m wondering where the tic even came from. He get it from a movie? A TikTok? Or are people around him calling black people slurs and he picked up on it?! Because I’ve heard from a few people how they’ve picked up tics and they quite literally can come from anywhere like a commercial jingle getting stuck in your head or something. Like I said, I just find it mighty convenient that allegedly he only said it to black people which gives me the impression that seeing a black person is what triggers the tic, hence my theory about people around him being racist asf. Cause everyone trying to school people in comment sections is forgetting the part about certain tics being triggered by certain or specific things; it’s not as random as it seems ‼️

I think Kenya pointing out this is a work environment… that’s a whole HR violation at the very least. I agree I don’t think it’s malicious but acknowledging harm is the bare minimum.

& fuck you too baby

Thank you for this video. I am enraged. This shit is a perfect example of why they should stop casting fucking British people. There are plenty of amazing black actors in America. I can recast the entirety of sinners without no British people and it would still be good. FUCK THE BRITISH

As a Nigerian living in the yew kay, this place is bad fucking vibes, fuck the BBC fuck the BAFTAs. Thank God awards season is almost over I'm over this shit

Temi.is.sometimes.blue💙

It’s just amazing to me how yt people will unionize in the blink of an eye to dismiss black pain. People who never gaf about ableism (and some of them even using the r word to make their point) jumping through hoops to act as if it’s just absolutely inhumane to ask for an apology for unintentional harm.

Mariah L.

I can’t get over he said it to multiple people. He should’ve been asked to leave. I mean if say someone had a condition that caused them to start screaming or crying, do we think BAFTAS or any ceremony is going to just accept that and struggle through? Probably not

Sammy J

people defending the disabled man and calling us the r slur in the same breath 😂😂 can’t make this up. also it’s nuts how this situation completely disregards how there are black people with tourette’s that have to navigate this. my younger brother has autism, and he’s quite tall and looks a bit older than his age. i’m always so worried he’s gonna run at someone or have a panic attack in public and it’ll be unsafe for him (ik autism isn’t the same as tourette’s) those award shows are a privilege and if u have a condition in which u could harm other attendees and you don’t have the foresight to account for it, don’t go

Meg

white people are so disgusting to me

As soon as I heard about this happening, i said... Where is Will Smith and the boxer hands when we need them 😆
