I really wne to bed that night thinking we would have a female president the next day. My hometown was in the middle of the East Coast Trump Trail, and I had so many white male students and teachers try to explain why they wanted to vote for Trump. One teacher said "Hilary annoys me; she doesn't really represent New York" and most of the students said they'd vote for him for the humor. They wanted to see how truly chaotic things could get. I really calmed SNL for making Trump look like a harmlessly stupid person that would provide giggles, I think that really pushed him to the top in New York specifically. Leaving school that first day of his presidency, my friend said that Trump sucks. A white superintendent who overheard that dragged my friend back by their arm and said "HEY! THAT'S NOT NICE!" Both of us were just staring like what the fuck?? After that, my school started getting swastikas in the bathroom.

I finished college 2 years prior, so I was already working (a shitty retail job), I cut my hair super short up to my neck which was a big deal for me and my family, I went to Jamaica 🇯🇲 for a cousin’s wedding that was a lot of fun!! But also the start of this shift between certain family members.
