Hey peeps, so here's an update on how The Couch has been going.
Basically I made a bit of a blunder trying to adapt a new animation system to the project. The last few months I've been trying to learn a new animation tool in the hopes of improving the workflow for future scenes.
The problem is this system (called AnyPortrait) is it's very self contained and there were a lot of new features and functions to learn on top of the already complicated structure of getting these paintings to work in a real-time animation system. The problem was less the tool (which is superb and the devs are very nice and helped me out a bit!) and more me trying to learn and experiment with something among so many deadlines. I'm also looking at long term benefits, but this one is having too big of a short term impact.
This was a mistake and I'm sorry for the lost time, maybe I'll adopt this tool for a future project but for now I'd rather stick with the devil I know.
I'm not sure if you guys are aware but The Couch went through a few iterations before becoming what it is now even before the "sample demo" which you can see here (with it's bad art lol but i was doing some thing quick!). And the transition between tools from that and the sample demo were very similar tools. But I have more experince with the current tools than i gave myself credit for.
So yeah in an effort to "finish the fucking game" I'm going back to Anima2D, which from my understanding may become outdated soon, but until Unity makes a full transition to whats built into the unity package manager this should be fine.
Among everything else i'm doing this month I started over on the "Hug" scene set up and worked as fast as i can to get it to a state where i can start animation! Forgive some of the skinning issues in the preview gif above, i'll fix those before a proper animation release. On top of physics improvements.
For now I just wanted to let you guys know things are moving forward again, and animations should be completed soon.
Also no one has asked about the raffle this month so far. I'm doing my best to work out a time, I don't think it can be this weekend. I'm focusing on trying to get these releases out amoung client deadlines, so maybe i'll just do another two day event next month...Sorry if that's disappointing. My traveling earlier this month put a damper on things, But i'll make an update on this soon.
Thank you all for your support and there will be more updates soon related to Naomi 3D!
