This reply is like a million years late, but I just noticed your comment today! Lol! I'm glad my rambling explanation made sense for you. The differences between the male and female gaze are really interesting, for sure. 😊

2022-08-29 17:47:10 +0000 UTCThe jaw drop and... "So..." (followed by a present pause) moment at Dougal's 'insuring the bloodline,' was a memorable moment in this one. - Another sweet comment was her admiration for the gently falling snow... the way only a Canadian might admire snow. After all, isn't Scotland, England's Canada? - (terrible, insensitive American attempt at northern neighbor's weather humor. - Sorry!) - One more was Jamie's strategic gille with his "Let your brother play the rebel, as long as he does it quietly," comment made to Cullum earned "Good job Jamie, Good job." from Evie. - Laoghaire MacKenzie is a young bitch now embarssed and scorned - a true threat to Clare from now on. - Jamie pledges his hand won't be raised to Clare again, and Clare threatens Jamie only to make her own pledge back to him. First, Evie giggles at the sight, then says - "Holy! God-Damn!! - I think they have the best on-screen chemistry I have ever seen. - Ya, I think they are the best couple. - - - If Clare and Jamie would be among your favorite couples, or not, who would be? Consider naming your all-time best TV couples. 2022-07-26 16:55:00 +0000 UTCHi, new patron here. I love this show SO much and enjoy watching these episodes again through your eyes. They filmed the episodes out of order and even though Claire and Jamie have made love before, this was actually the first love scene that they filmed. I remember seeing an interview with Sam who said it was hours. They even broke for lunch. Then came back. He mentioned how awkward it is to film those scenes and pretend to make love when they aren’t They are not completely naked, they wear what they call modesty coverings. Sam refers to it as a pouch and Cait wears a small patch of cloth, but she has said that it really shouldn’t be called a modesty covering since it doesn’t cover a whole lot. They were doing a fan panel once and Sam told a story about how he needed to use the restroom in between takes (I’m not sure if it was for this episode or another) but he dropped his modesty pouch in the urinal and had to let someone know and they announced it on the radio for all the crew to hear that he needed another one 😂 I’m not sure what episode you mentioned the chemistry between the actors and I agree, I don’t think I have ever seen chemistry like this between actors playing love interests on TV. I just love these characters so much!

2022-05-03 02:14:06 +0000 UTCLinda... Thank you so much for explaining what a "female gaze" & a "male gaze" love scene is. I've never heard of that before but it makes so much sense now. That was a fascinating tidbit of information ☺

2022-04-13 23:26:52 +0000 UTCTotally agree! I guess that explains why I felt like such a pervert lol not very used to seeing sexuality portayed like this on television but I love it!! as for the discipline scene I love the way they did it and I wasn't mad at Jamie one bit while also understanding and seeing it from Claire's perspective so kudos to the show for that! 🥰

2022-03-14 21:46:53 +0000 UTCGreat reaction! The "discipline" scene was what I wanted to warn you about in my comments last episode. It can be hard for people to deal with the idea of a "hero" acting that way to the woman he loves. But you totally understood the point of that scene. It was nothing to Jamie, except what was expected. He could see that the men were angry at her, and they felt she had put their lives in danger and then gotten away with it. So, to Jamie's mind, he'd punish her, the men would be satisfied, and Claire could go back to being part of the group. And that is exactly what happened from their side of things. The next morning, the men were all teasing her and kind of complimenting her by noting that she'd "given as good as she got" and saying that a spanking never killed anybody and in a roundabout way letting her know that they'd had it happen to them too. It evened everything out again for them. But of course for Claire, this was just another reminder that she was so far from her own world, and things were so very different here. Like you, I loved the way Jamie came to his own conclusions that their relationship would have to be different, and how he swore an oath (which they definitely don't take lightly) that he'd never raise a hand to her again. I love the shift in power dynamics when they're having sex and Claire puts the dagger to his throat and basically demands his oath again. Jamie may have had the power in the discipline scene, but the power was ALL Claire's here. I agree 100% that Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughn have AMAZING chemistry, and Jamie saying, "Will ye have me?" is sexy af! And is absolute proof that consent is incredibly hot! LOL! In regards to what you were saying, about how you don't know of any other shows whose love scenes are like the ones in Outlander that's because this show has a very distinct female gaze, it's one of the things this show has been touted for. To give a very truncated explanation, the male gaze tends to use women as sexual objects there for men to enjoy, and the sex scenes are almost always about the man's pleasure, or showing what a stud he is. The female gaze switches that up and shows sex scenes from a POV that caters to women a little more, showing them in positions of command within the bedroom, as opposed to always being on the recieving end of whatever men are giving them. A really good example of the female gaze within Outlander is in the very first episode when Frank and Claire are wandering around the ruins of Castle Leoch and Claire is not only the one who initiates sex, but she coaxes Frank into "pleasing her first" let's say. 😉 The female gaze also tends to show as much male nudity as female nudity, which Outlander also does pretty well. 😁 My rambling point being, that I believe it is the show's use of the female gaze that brings that sensuality and intimacy into the sex scenes. Sorry for this ridiculously long comment! Looking forward to the next episode!
