We all heard the news last July that itch-io was being hassled by the payment processors about games they did not like being put on their platform that violated the payment processors rules.
Itch-io responded by delisting all NSFW games from its index, including mine. This didn't affect me much because the itch-io listings are not a major source for people searching my games. I get much more from google or DuckDuckGo searches.
Rule #1 for fellow indie game devs: Make your game easily googleable. The name Ariane is uncommon enough that "Date Ariane" comes right up in search.
So that means I am still making lots of sales on itch-io, and I haven't changed how I handle sales there, I monthly request bulk payments. The request I made in July came right over in the usual 15 days after I made the request.
The problem is that the August payment is over a month old, and still hasn't been paid, and it probably has to do with their payment processors. I'm vehemently opposed to censorship of works of fiction including games that are made from 2D drawings or 3D renders, but my games don't even fit the ban definition.
That forced me to write a little note in my games description:
ITCH.IO SEEMS TO HAVE STOPPED PAYING ME WHAT THEY OWE ME. I understand they are protecting their business, but I need to protect mine.
THREE ALTERNATIVES TO GET DATE ARIANE REMASTERED:
1. Available on Steam. Includes Steam benefits like Steam Achievements. Free updates. Unfortunately, it's PC only.
2. Available on my Site Store. Advantage: Cheaper, both PC and Mac. Disadvantage: Pay for download. No free updates (DAR will get a big update in early 2026).
3. Available on my Patreon. A rotating game on sale each month, get all my games for $20. Get access to early alpha and beta versions.
Dear itchio, all my games including this one are adult only. But all the characters are adult, not related, and all intimacy is consensual, characters are fictional and 3D generated, so my games are LEGAL for all forms of payment. So pay me!
I made this on all 4 games only changing the name of the game and the Steam link. Also on itchio I change the payment method to PayPal on every sale instead of bulk monthly sales.
Rule #2 for fellow indie game devs: Make your game available in multiple places. Including build a website for them.
I'll see how these changes go and look into other locations for my games.
ETA: And overnight, they decided to pay me. But I'm also getting more sales from the other routes mentioned. So I plan to change the message so it doesn't sound as aggressive.
