Peach and her partner asked me to sing the song for their first dance, and there were a few awkward poly elements I was navigating, so I was happy to take any excuse for a walk or a distraction. My husband was in the wedding party, and of course he was continually paired up with the bridesmaid he fucked years ago. Which is fine, we’re all adults, but out of the 6 other bridesmaids he didn’t fuck it was annoying he kept being paired up with her for walks and introductions. Like why does the most awkward thing need to happen?
When another friend needed to find a place to pump breast milk I helped her seek out a room and offered her my company. Being in service at any kind of party helps to ground me. I love a distraction.
The awkward parts were eventually over, and the first dance song went spectacularly. I was nervous for nuthin’. My husband and I slow danced later to Stand By Me. The bride was radiant. It was a good night.
