“assault rifle from the get go like an AK” after the fast rapping sex analogy i definitely heard “naked” the first time and was momentarily confused 🤣 I don’t think you know much you are crushing this Pateeon thing. It feels almost criminal that it’s so inexpensive, and I hope that you might consider added a support tier or a monthly zoom call tier or something in the future (I think a zoom call fan thing is where RikaShae got Harry Mack to do the freestyle for his drawing of you but I could be wrong) especially because your crew is absolutely fanstastic at what they do, and I’m sure there are a lot of financial considerations when you have more full time staff. I hope this recorded video format has been easy to manage during your more difficult treatment months, you’re well suited to it and an excellent teacher. It’s so incredible to hear you connect the strings together into this tragic and beautiful web, and there are things I didn’t realize after my many watches. As a fellow ADHDer, I can’t imagine how you focused on anything at all with the chat going, it was so fast 🤯 I’m still waiting on vinyl and a batch of cds (from Amazon no less) that just shipped… but I wanted you to know that your team has been really really good at communicating (and apologizing, although that wasn’t necessary) about the delays. I’m so thrilled that you guys smashed through so many sales projections that two months later they are still catching up!! It has made me happy that you’re continuing to beat the odds and surpass expectations. My 7 year old song wants to learn guitar because of you, so we got him one and hopefully he’ll start lessons in January. There’s going to be a whole generation of musicians now, because of you ❤️

You are such a fantastic storyteller, it’s great to hear your thought process as you set the stage and develop the characters. Never apologize for tangents or the length of your videos. It’s why we are here. When you transition to Screech’s Tale I would love to hear more about the Instagram stories and the poem you shared during the 360 live. I appreciated that you didn’t simply make him a villain but allowed us to see his humanity. I think it’s easy for us to forget he was only 14. And can’t wait for you to unpack Violet’s Tale!

This is exactly what I’m here for! Thanks for that lyrical breakdown and these songwriting insights. You‘re such a talented lyricist and storyteller! After 10 months of listening to or watching the tales trilogy several times a week, I can now admit that I initially misheard the line „James, he grew up to be a kid of the street“, when I first came across the tales and got „Jay-Z grew up to…“ instead of „James, he grew up to…“ and somehow it kinda made sense at first listen. 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️

This is cool. You actually have like the best Patreon. It was interesting to hear the inspiration behind the tales, and the song writing process. I’m looking forward to more of this.

This was wonderful , Never be worried about the length of any video you decide to share with us I'm pretty sure that like myself everyone else here would listen to you no mater how long also if time is a issue there's always the pause button so we can come back whenever we have time .I actually include any of your speeches/talking videos/interviews and whatever in my youtube Ren playlists just as much as I listen to your music because you always seem to have something interesting to say and a fascinating way of expressing yourself & just like Zack Sang said on your interview you have a great speaking voice ,you're very pleasing on the ears .... I swear I heard an early version recently that was stalagmite. It caught my attention because it was different but actually made more sense. But going back through my YT history, I can’t find where it was.l I heard that.

Nope everyone is stalactite (thank you spell checker.) Like I said it's a better sounding word with the same meaning. Besides, a person would be wider up top than at their feet, so the shape works too.

I’ve been wondering what the timeline was of you writing the tales? Did you have the idea for all three parts when you started? You mentioned the intentional misleading so I guess you must have had some idea already. So do you just have a rough story in your head and come back to it over time to really develop the lyrics? There was quite a bit of time between the videos for Jenny’s tale and Violet’s tale. Was the time frame of the writing similar? If so, is that due to your health, adhd, just focused on other things? Would definitely like to see the early video!

Like Nick, I would love to know how you choose your locations. You obviously did a lot of this stuff in the middle of the night. Did you have locals yelling at you? Apart from that stuff, this was really fascinating ... just love hearing about the process!

95% of my poetry is rhymed. I like the challenge of finding the perfect words to express what I’m trying to say while keeping with the theme. Your writing, along with your delivery and cadence and acting, is what sent me down the rabbit hole to begin with. Hi Ren, where I first learned about you got me curious, but it was the tales that made me a fan. And I was completely and utterly sold once I heard you busking in the I Shot The Sheriff mashup. Great content. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Very insightful. Thank you as always. For the record...every version of this song I have listened to does use "stalagtite." In my mind it never mattered, it's a more interesting sounding word than stalagmite, and both are rock formations that change so slowly their movements are inperceivable. Still works, in fact better due to the sharpness of the syllables and the sharpness of the scean. Creative license bro.

This makes me want to sit down and write a story! Begining was always my issue this WILL help, I think.

Very interesting. I’d love to know if this was fully written and formed when you were 18, or if you went back and refined it over time. If you did, what changes did you make and why? Also, how much of the creative process was conscious and how much of this explanation is reflecting on what you created and trying to understand your own subconscious? I may have missed it, but it would also be interesting to get into the video choices and production - how did you decide the location? (Great graffiti, a spot where you felt less likely to be interrupted or upset people with the performance? Did you try different takes in different spots?) What was the thought process behind the choice of outfit? I’ve seen a lot of reactors resonate with the starter jacket choice in Jenny’s tale (and many people disliking the Cowboys jacket in Screech’s tale - was that deliberate? To play to people’s empathy or antagonism with the characters) Also - the choice to lean against the gate/door as you do the mouth trumpet, which serves to immediately emphasise “oh this is recorded live” because people hear the rattle - was that a conscious decision? How did you decide how far to walk up the alley? Were there particular points where you planned for certain lines to land? I’m glad you pointed out you meant to sing stalagmite - I picked that up in an early listen that “tights come down” and so did some reactors (not many), and I think you did sing mights in other performances. Love the use of the word oxymoron. That became one of my fav words back when we used to trawl the dictionary for new interesting words as a kid (yes, I was that kind of kid). Have you ever consciously sought to expand your vocabulary? Do you think about which words people will know when you are writing and self censor or do you use any word that you know if it is the “right” word for the song and trust your audience to understand? (I can’t think of many examples - but Masochist certainly seemed to confuse a lot of people for example). So many questions - and I love this format of you sharing this insight.
