Something strange is going on with today's comic...

For those wondering at my sanity, yes, as several noted, it's a sort of "magic eye" 3D effect. I accidentally noticed it a few strips ago, with Swamps and Cara at the Coffee Shop, and since I'm doing so much copy-paste this week, I thought I'd give it a more intentional try.

The results are not exactly stunning, I'll admit. But it is, again, a very first try. I haven't looked up any how-tos or tutorials, but the technique is simple enough. I just need to practice what and how much to offset, to get the "depth" effect.

It's not something I'll be doing often- it takes a lot of extra time. Tuesday's comic, even being almost entirely cut-and-paste, actually took longer than a regular drawn-from-scratch strip, because I was trying different spacings and whatnot.

It's a fun little trick, and I'm looking forward to trying it again.

I'm afraid I'm another one. Luck for us Doc has plenty of garlic jokes handy.

I had to copy it to my desktop, and open it with Preview, so I could play with size and position. Then I could see it in 3D. Pretty good. The right side was best.

It's literally just a case of offsetting various elements of the two adjoining pictures, to the left or right. The amount of the offset makes them seem nearer or further from the eye.

*Crosses my eyes* Ooh! 3D! :3

I've heard that all photographs (and thus probably sufficiently complete drawings) will have a slight 3D effect -- even if it's just two of the same picture -- when viewed stereoscopically. It's possible that's what's happening here, if you didn't do something deliberate. And if you did something deliberate, you could use a three-panel comic to offer a "crossed eye (close focus)" version on one side and a "distant focus" version on the other.

I could see Docs response "but I like garlic"

Are you re-creating the staring image from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly," minus one?
