(Timeline Tuesday #1)
Kettlers are small crustaceans from a nearby culinary-based reality. On the kettler’s timeline, the vast majority of businesses, religious affiliations, family structures and artforms are centered around cooking and eating. The vast majority of indoor space on this reality is dedicated to restaurants or food storage, and this cultural structure has existed for hundreds of thousands of years.
Because of this dedication to culinary arts, many creatures on Timeline #42480377519 have evolved to utilize these kitchen spaces.
In the case of the Kettler, their appearance bears a striking resemblance to a tea kettle used for boiling water. While close inspection reveals their true nature, kettlers typically hide amongst pots and pans, reminding perfectly still if light or movement prompts them to hide in this manner.
The creatures have six legs, which they use to scuttle around, and a long clawed appendage projecting from the front of their bodies. This appendage is used for grasping and catching food, which is then brought to the top of the kettler’s body for consumption. It’s here the creature’s round mouth can be found.
Kettlers also feature twelve small, beady eyes, giving them a spider-like appearance.
While the creatures are mostly scavengers, seeking out scraps that’ve fallen to the floor during kitchen prep, they will also hunt down smaller pests that are common to their habitats, especially in unkept locations. Mice, rats, and cockroaches are all favorite snacks of the kettler.
Although they are typically more frightened by larger creatures than aggressive toward them, kettlers will not hesitate to defend themselves with their central claw if cornered.
