EARLY ACCESS: The Feminist to Far-Right Pipeline

At times like this, I guess all you can do is laugh.

Here's the new video, gang! Woohoo!! I wanted to make sure I could stand behind the first version anyone would see, so I'd say the video is 95% complete – all I've got left is colour grading, and adding music + some minor graphics.

I'd love to know what you think. This thing is a behemoth, so I may have missed a spot here and there - please let me know if so :)

EARLY ACCESS: The Feminist to Far-Right Pipeline

You're not alone, I'm also Australian and started transitioning at the end of last year. For what it's worth, I don't think we'll go down the same path as other countries, too many prominent journalists and even some right-wing politicians shut down and distanced themselves from the transphobia in the 2022 election. Have hope x

I am a cis het white male genX... but also, I guess, of the radical left. I have been finding the machinations and intersectionality of the fascist backlash against trans visibility morbidly fascinating for years now (yes my privilege means I don't experience the immediate existential threat of my brave and beautiful trans comrades). I have so much to thank you Lily, (also Natalie, Abigail and Jessie) for <3

this is a good connection, for sure! i think canada's anti-trans movement is somewhere between the US and the UK - most of them don't brand themselves as feminist, either, but they do use talking points originated by gender-criticals. something i didn't mention is that american GCs tend to hate planned parenthood, a position i literally can't imagine holding

Living in Australia I watch this with extreme worry. I actually have begun my transition (MTF) in January this year and part of what finally prompted me to do it was fear of losing the opportunity to begin. Thankfully culture-war tactics aren't quite so prominent here, in large part due to what I see as general political apathy. I just hope that I never lose access to HRT because even after just a few months, it has changed my life for the better. Thanks Lily, you're an inspiration.

Sorry to hear about what’s been happening in Canada. I live in the USA, and my perception is that our anti-trans movement hasn’t really tried to call themselves “feminist.” Our liberals also seem pretty pro-trans to me. I think it’s because abortion is much more of a hot issue here, so arguing for bodily autonomy makes trans folks natural allies with liberal feminists. For example, Planned Parenthood, our largest abortion rights organization, has a policy that makes it relatively easy to get HRT at their clinics whenever legally possible.

Thank you for publicising that Helen Joyce video, in which she says the quiet thing out loud, that the GC movement aims for nothing less than the elimination of all trans people. I have on occasion used that video to shock lower-level GCs who denied that their movement had such aims. Helen Joyce is surely one of the most reprehensible of the academic transphobes, but her blatant statement of her aims has given us a gift.

I’ll wait for the final version, but so happy to see a new video ❤️
