Dev-Log 20.04. - Plasma Leak (SFW)

Hi,

today I worked for a bit with particle system in blender on the repair effects. I got some feedback that those are hard to locate. Not any longer!

Repair motivation is much higher if you have to stop a plasma leak :)

The moving particles effect is a 10 frame looped overlay over the hallway image, particles only with transparent background and with very low memory and performance impact.

Hi,

today I cleaned up some of the icons and addressed minor GUI issues, which will be included in V0.5 EA2 Update (26.04.)

Small screenshot attached. I redid all the gear and equipment icons for the combat game and scaled them to native 128x128 smaller size for performance reasons. Also redid the fugly torpedo launcher to be more rounded and tube-like

Due to many questions:

Where do I get the multiverse pod?

  • V0.4: Ylyee appears at 15:00 in the bar after you have earned around 200k. Watch her dance and give her 500 Cr
  • V0.5: Ylyee appears from GAME day 10, no other conditions

How do I use it?

  • Select it in inventory, select use mode and use on cargo terminal
  • Everything in cargo will be shown for selection

Quick Mini Poll - All Tiers - Soundtrack

I am wrapping up V0.5 currently and will go over the ambient soundtracks again in the next two days.

One question came up I'd like your quick vote on and that's the bot configurator ambient soundtrack (a kind of dark, ominous drone loop). I love that loop but that may be subjective.

As the players spend some time on the screen, the loop should not be annoying but still a bit energizing.

V0.5 - Beta Status

Hi,

after some hiccups in Beta1 I pushed Beta2 just now after fixing all reported issues and testing.
Sorry to all the Beta testers for Beta1 issues.

Good news: I see no roadblock currently present. Even the tricky Multiverse-Pod Bot export and import feature works nicely - Hooray!

V0.5 Code Complete - Beta Started

the code has been frozen today and the beta started for the next few days.

I played through the game and am rather happy regarding the new locations and features. Especially the transport mission for me are fun to chase (as they can yield several 100k unexpected profits). today I rewrote the entire missions system, as the old (sloppy) version annoyed me during integration. Much easier to assign and track missions now, much more variety. Highlights:

  • Transport missions difficulty/reward scaling (qty and distance)
  • Bounty missions added

Hi,

today I integrated the pirate base quest (90% done) and made two fullscreen animations.

In that context I modified the cargo screen to allow for sales of shields and weapons if you have a weapons license, added the license approval code, added all the weapons and shields to the trading menu (you start out with a grade one weapons license for basic stuff)

today I continued with the integration of the Pirate Base (50% done) and decided to resolve some other GUI issues I had on my list...

The daily order screen in the  morning can now be used to assign your crew members tasks or uniforms. These tasks raise the stress and uniforms reduce the mood.

You can now gift items to reduce stress directly from the assignment screen. Relaxation decreases stress, increases mood.

Hi,

I'm in the middle of doing the renders for V0.5 but still have a few loose ends on coding side. Definitely again overestimated my efficiency and slipped a few days behind plan...

Code-complete date will be 13th hopefully. The space combat part works technically, but in V0.5 it will be basic with only few tactical choices. Definitely planning to expand on that in the next release V0.6.

Dev-Log V0.5. & Update Release Dates

Hi,

today I finished the bot import / export via the Multiverse Pod. You can store up to three bots in there and retrieve them in another game/version.

Screens show the Multiverse Pod sequence of:

  • "Bot Container" Item -> Bot Selection Screen -> Export confirmation -> Bot transferred into Pod.

The export/import code also opens up the possibility of finding abandoned / completed bots floating in space, physically sending your bots away to competition...

Hi,

I have been doing some of the detail work today to complete the pirate base. Did all the side images of the new characters and also the Cantina sprites (see screenshot) of the V0.5 first roundup.

Hi,

today I completed the GUI for space combat, made the first batch of enemy icons and some mechanics. Integration of combat about 80% done.

  • Movement:
    - you can move without using action points
  • Attack:
    - firing and repairing systems use action points
    - total action points per round depend on engine performance
    - laser is range limited, torpedoes are not (LOS is required for both)

Bugfix Announcement V0.4!

I just stumbled over a memory bloat issue in all V0.4 releases which is semi serious.

What happens: Bot data  is growing every time a bot is "touched" due to debug logging in a bot internal variable. May cause save games to bloat (from KB to MB...) if bots are used a lot

I fixed it and linked V0.4c1 in the release notes already. Bloated save games won't be healed with V0.4c1, but will  not grow further.

today i finished the cantina interior for the Pirate Base.

It's not super gritty, but I added a red-light floor in the back. Also, I will add some shady characters. A Krell (the froglike guys), then Vigo, a bartender and for ambience, maybe a topless waitress...
