So there's a big model show coming in Slovakia

And I'll go there just to buy models and supplies. So I've been wondering what  to buy. How would you like to see this Crusader? YEY OR NEY?

But don't worry, the next model will be a German tank :)

Something that you haven't seen on my channel yet!

Now this is a pretty cool technique that I've been using extensively a few years ago and for some reason stopped... I don't know why as the results look pretty authentic if you ask me.

So... what are we looking at?

Well, this is what happens when you decide to use actual real earth to weather your model. The point is to imitate loose soil, grass, twigs and various other debris caught on the tank's surface. This actually happened (and happens) quite a lot! Obviously the tank ...

Guys, delete the last batch of HD pics and replace it with this one :)

This is how they're supposed to look like. Uncle Night Shift is finally happy again and he can't wait to tie it all together with some mud tones on the upper hull :)))

Sometimes it's the little things :)

Soooo yeah lol, the out of scale track cleats were the biggest problem for me... especially after I polished the crap out of them. They looked so bad, almost blinding. After studying a few reference pictures I remembered that even those exposed parts can actually get covered in tons of mud if the tank is moving in a soft terrain. The difference is pretty obvious and now I'm quite happy with the result.

This is giving me some ideas

First off, the track video is finished... it went surprisingly fast! Gotta say it's not gonna be as bad as I expected.

Second off, while making the thumbnail I realised the tracks don't look that horrible and I actually got an idea on how to make them better. What mostly ruins them are the oversized shiny outside cleats. I think I'll stipple some extra mud over them to tone the shine down.

Third off, what do you think about ...

Another example of painting tracks attached to a model

This model is also a 1/72 and it also had tracks and wheels firmly glued in place while painting. But the biggest difference was those were actually super high quality resin aftermarket tracks so they had tons of detail which also made the snow application super easy. I originally wanted to add snow to the KV-220-2 as well but the track links don't have enough details where the snow could hold.

HD track photos

There's not much to look at tbh, and I'd be repeating myself from the previous post. Again I'm sorry but this is as much as I could do with them. The fact the running gear is weathered while the rest of the tank isn't makes it look more weird, but that'll change soon (hopefully for the better lol)

Tracks done

Well, I guess you can't twist a whip out of a turd (that's a literal translation from my language lol) and crappy tracks are gonna stay crappy. I think I made the best I could out of them but at the same time think I didn't do merely enough because of how discouraged I felt about them from the get go. It makes me feel kinda bad for all of you mates, making such mediocre looking stuff for you to watch. I'm really sorry about this but I promise to make it up because after I finish this model I'...

This is actually getting really frustrating

I'm sorry for not uploading the other day. I didn't feel very well but today I got a bunch of stuff done, although it's not all done yet as you can see.

A little piece of wisdom from me... and I can tell this to you first hand with this model... guys, if you can, AVOID GLUING TRACKS AND WHEELS TO YOUR TANKS AT ALL COSTS. I mean, the whole point of this video will be that yeah, it can be done, but it's just more and more frustrating that it's not even fun anymore. You're...

Dry mud tones done

So last night I managed to at least add the dry earth effects, this photo is fresh after they were applied (you can still see some thinner here and there). I'm working with those new enamel mud effects from Ammo and they dry super slow, so the dark wet effects will be added today.

TRACKS = FIXED

Hey mates, so with the chipping video done I once again got some bench time tonight. I managed to fix all the poor fitting track links with Textured Earth from Wilder, which, obviously, also provided some overall muddy texture. This turned out even better than I anticipated, but obviously, this is just a foundation for the actual mud effects which I'm gonna start working on tomorrow.

I actually wanted to add tons of static grass into the mud according to one reference photo, but i...

Some thoughts on painting details

Hey mates, here's a quick thought/tip/opinion/call it whatever you want.

So, someone commented on the last video about the tarp looking weird with winter camouflage on top of it and I had to explain it's not painted yet.

Here I realised how some modellers paint stuff like details, stowage etc. in a wrong way. Now I rarely call something outright wrong because everyone has their own style and way of doing things, but think about it: you have your model base coated, you add markings...

HD photos of all the washes

Hey mates, here you have your dose of exclusive photos. These won't appear anywhere except here :)

Also, the next batch with the chipping and detail painting should be ready in a few days (I usually take photos during the video production stage).

Details are done and so am I

What's up my lovely mates, today I finally got all the details painted and the tank is ready for earth effects.

I also made you a very simple painting guide for the exhausts.

Step 1: base coat with Lifecolor Incinerated White (a matt white with a hint of red)

Step 2: rusty texture with a mixture of Dark Grey and Dark Brown Vallejo paints

Step 3: enamel rust wash using Ammo Streaking Rust (the smoke effects will be added as one of the final touches when the model is don...

Early video!!!

https://youtu.be/S2ewAO1OFD0

Here you go mates, a new video one day early and ad-free. Even a little bit earlier than 24 hours early :)

If someone is up to it, leave a comment saying "Patreon gang where u at" under the video... and then someone else can respond to that. Gotta keep the hype real!

Rust tones are DONE

Well, sort of... just realised I forgot to apply them to the right-hand side of the running gear lol. Anyway, tomorrow will be about painting details (exhausts, MGs, periscopes and that terrifying tarp) and then it's finally time to start putting the video together.

Again a small bit of extra info that probably won't make it into the video: that large green spot on the fender, where the stowage box is missing? If this was a regular green tank, I'd distinguish that spot from the rest of ...

Quick info

Hey mates,

just a quick info about having your name/nickname in the end credits: I'll be including these starting with the first November video. The reason for this is that two upcoming videos are already done and ready to be uploaded and also, Patreon charges your cards at the first day of the month, so there's a chance that someone might reconsider their membership before that happens, so... that's roughly when we'll officially kick this whole thing into motion. I mean, it's not such ...

Started with rust tones

Today I managed to finish the dark steel chipping and started with some subtle rust tones. The trick with winter camouflages and rust effects is that these two shouldn't overlap in a very obvious manner, because the effect will look too drastic.

I also painted fake lids on the fender boxes... remember how I decided not to scribe in their panel lines in the construction video? That's because I had this in mind the whole time :)

Edit: It doesn't! This means you'll be able to get your regular dose of full quality pictures straight from your Patreon feed. Just click & download all dem megapixels. With this I won't need to source e-mails from you guys in order to send you these pictures. Cool stuff.
