January Catch-Up POD

Literally just a big catch up on what's been going on lately: games I've been playing, things I've been watching, snowy sadness, finishing book projects, feeling very Single, farming dreams, the colored pencil procreate brush, and being uncomfortable, etc etc etc.

Love you guys and see you very soon.

JAN. Midmod Lamps Printable!

Hiii and happy 2024, for this month's printable/downloadable I thought "what is something that I'm really into right now?" and what came to me...was lamps. Mid-mod lamps, specifically. But as you might know I can't just draw a lamp. It must be sentient and stare at you. Thus we have these little midcentury tabletop creatures, in printable form!

The actual downloadable file is 8x11 inches (US Letter), and has a white background--I didn't want to make the background colored and wast...

Draw + Design with me: I Like It List

Merry Christmas! This month's video is a whole bunch of very real things: second-guessing creative choices, trying and failing, trying and succeeding(!!), and the thought process that goes on while I'm drawing/laying things out. I'll be literally talking you through why I make decisions and you get to see me try, try again, and try a third time.

This was a very fun little project, and I hope you enjoy watching me work on it!

Dec Secret Sketches + Yt video preview :-]

Hi :-]

During December there tends to be some silence from the book publishing industry, so I'm having a pretty relaxing month just working away at my own stuff, filming some videos, and chipping away at longer-term book projects. I'm also working on filming a video for the Deciduous patrons which is a revamping of an old "100 Things I Like To Draw List", but it's admittedly ...slow-going. Lots of second-guessing and layout planning going into it. That video will be a treat to wat...

Birthdays Are Weird In Your 20s

Hi. In this podcast I talk about the odd experience and phenomenon of birthday pressure. In order for this to not be a complete bummer though, I take you through some highlights from when I was 25. After writing it all down, I kind of snapped out of my weird little mood. :'-)

I think the takeaway from this one is: we all go through it. We all feel a little weird about our birthday at some point for one reason or another. But I'm just glad to be alive, to be healthy, and...

Dec'23 PRINTABLE POSTCARDS

Happy December :-D I'm so excited to be posting printables again. This month I've got two 5x7 in. (13 x 18cm) postcards-size prints for you. Could just be fun to hang on your wall or write a little something on the back and send to a friend. I've attached them to this post below!

If you do end up printing and using them I'd love to see it, tag me on instagram or send me a picture directly through my DMs--whatever you want to do, if you choose to do so!

Not Getting The Job / New Collaborative Project

Yesterday I spent the day feeling sorry for myself because a big project opportunity with a celebrity client fell though (so funny because in my latest video podcast for the Deciduous tier folks I specifically mentioned not wanting to get too excited about it). The team chose to go with an illustrator whose style they felt better fit the project. Big disappointment (especially because it seemed to be...

Nov. Video Podcast: Welcome to the Deciduous Tier!

Welcome to the brand new tier! Thanks you for choosing to be here. This video to kick us off is just a chatty podcast-style sit-down. The feedback I was hearing from the Evergreen tier, as well as in my youtube comments, is that videos like this (+ art-creating video content) was the most sought-after addition to patreon. I know I also like seeing bonus videos from people.

In this video I talk about: my new life changing water drinking experience, fidget spinning, revam...

Painted Postcards Exclusive Look! + Tier Update(?)

In case you don't want to read a whole bunch, here's the short version: I am going to be doing 5 exclusive postcard paintings regularly (maybe once a month?) and sell the originals in my bigcartel shop  and you (patrons!) will always be the first to know when the drop is happening.

I'm also considering adding another tier again for some bonu...

Tiny Sketchbook Dump + Sketchbook Mentality

Some old and some new scans from my tiny (4x5.5 in) topdrawer sketchbook! I was having a conversation with someone I'm close to (who is also working in the creative field for his job) about how hard it has become to work up the energy to sketchbook. We both went to art college together and previously were sketchbooking regularly, both for class and for our own creative pleasure. View Post

Presentation For Warrior Art Camp!

Here are all of my slides for the presentation I recently did for my friend Larsson Mcswain's Cover Art Creation class. The class session was broken up into three parts: the first bit where I presented these slides and talked to the class about everything detailed in the itinerary, a Q&A (which was very casual, and I got asked about my lifting PRs which I was not expecting), and a critique of the students' final projects.

I was nervous going into it due to the fact that talkin...

Podcast: October Time

Hi. Lots to talk about today!

A lot of this podcast is rambling about some form of imposter syndrome, my doubts when it comes to speaking/presenting, success and failure with my goals for the year, knowing when to "give up", living vs working, feeling creative and not being able to execute it, and things that are inspiring me lately! I feel like I did not take a breath for 40 minutes!! yes!

SEP. Secret Sketches + Upcoming Vlog

September has been full of quite a few events: multiple deadlines, new projects, a car accident, buying a new car, struggling with the many tasks that come with buying a new car, dating ups and downs, experimenting with new procreate brushes, learning how to knit, pickleball, and pikmin. I am excited for fall and I have this feeling something exciting is going to happen...? (This patreon above all else is a manifestation space so I'm manifesting Good Excitement in Fall 2023. August Secret Sketches: Working on Work Stuff

Like I stated in my last sketchbook post, I wanted to do an entirely different post for my work-related secret sketches (as well as some fun stuff). I had some deadlines back to back in August, so combined with the time I took off to travel this m...

Portland Sketchbook + Journal

hey!! I was preparing a secret sketches post with a bunch of stuff I've been working on over the course of the last month but before I do that I figured I would do a Portland-only post. Please excuse a few of the blurry patches--my sketchbook is pretty warped due to water damage via me dumping my water in my bag a couple of months ago (VERY epic just by the way. I have to shove my sketchbook against the scanner surface as hard as I can)

I had one of the best weeks of my l...

I don't want to Draw, I want to Live | Podcast

Hi I am unable to be normal right now due to watching Barbie last night as well as the Challengers trailer. :-)

In this episode I open with some good and nice things, then we move on to the main topics: current project breakdown, dreams of packaging design, I DON'T WANT TO DRAW I WANT TO LIVE, and answering a question about having an identifiable "thing" I got from a patron ( thank you Georgia! The timestamp for your question is 24:00 )

Love you guys, see you soon

Overcoming The Paralyzing "New Project Fear"

Hi. :-) (TL;DR at the end)

It's been a while since I made an informational post about work and workflow, so please enjoy and excuse my rust.

Since finishing my second graphic novel project, Arden High: King Cheer,  I have been playing catch-up (or rather start-up) with my other clients. These were clients waiting on me to be free, essentially, free enough to...

June Secret Sketches ...a Lot of Boys

Something was afflicting me last month. Something kind of...sinister. Something kind of wonderful.

Maybe it's the feeling of being done with another massive graphic novel project, being free to draw for fun and not feeling exhausted from it at the end of the day: I just want to be completely self-indulgent. I'm certainly still illustrating for work, but it's in a style completely different from the fan art drawings I do in my spare time. So when it comes to warm-ups for work, or d...

Graphic Novel Job Honesty + The GYM

This is a two-parter podcast, with the first half covering my honest experience illustrating two graphic novels with no experience. I talk about pay, timeline, and my own emotions throughout the process.

The second half is all about the GYM, BABY!!! LETSGOOO except...

March '23 Secret Sketches 。.・゜✭

Furries! Comic pages fully colored out of context! Jellyfish! Naruto! We've got it all in today's batch of secret sketches. I've been in graphic novel land for the last month nonstop and will continue to be for a couple more months so most of what I have to show and talk about is stuff from King Cheer. When I do manage to find time or energy to work on my own stuff it's usually pretty simple or extremely self-indulgent.

I miss going out and landscape painting, or people d...

Oops look who has been an absent creator! Please let me make up for last month's absence with a podcast where I talk about eight things that have been inspiring me (or were inspiring me, before said absence). Thank you for being so patient with me :'-)

Also, wanted to make a note that I just said Nintendo Labo OST when in actuality I was referring to both that and the Nintendo Labo VR Kit OST, which has a good majority of the good tunes.

Secret Sketches: Blender, Color Studies, Book Pages

Sometimes the secret sketches posts are a little devoid of color, but NOT TODAY!! January was filled with a lot of colorful projects, and--as I mentioned in my previous podcast--creative exploration. I've dusted off my 3d skills (or lack thereof, for now) to pick Blender up, as well as downloading PicoCAD (as of literally 10 minutes ago). Definitely wanting to share more about this when I get more acquainted with each ...

Uh Oh! Vulnerability and Creativity 2023!

If you haven't heard it enough already, happy new year!

Sometimes reflecting on the past year and looking to the future year can be a little daunting. Sometimes you don't want to look down either of those holes--especially if some Big Life Events happened recently. I can certainly understand. Today I decided to be a little brave and do some reflecting and a little thinking (imagine that!) about what the next year might hold.

This one gets a little deeper, so I hope you...

(if you'd like to skip ahead to the image descriptions please scroll to the end of this mini-newsletter!)

Hey there, it's been a bit since we caught up, hasn't it? I stopped doing regular newsletters because I got feedback that a lot of folks preferred audio-format updates, or that reading big chunks of text is difficult/exhausting. I also prefer audio over text newsletters, but I was feeling nostalgic for a good written newsletter. This won't be nearly as long as...

Sketchbook Scans ✒️✦⋆·˚ ༘ *

Hey there. Using a sketchbook regularly has given me the excuse to get a new scanner, since my old one beefed it. I don't think I've felt so excited to scan something before--it's amazing the difference a new device can make. Thanks again for asking questions--I tried to get all of them! As always, let me know if any more questions arise based off the answers given. Happy November, and I'll see you very soon :-)
