few storyboard panels

The Knight Foxglove folder of story doodles, even after arranged in order, was reaching the point where it was hard to tell what was and wasn't working or even done. I'm seeing how Clip Studio Paint fares as a storyboard program since I like my brushes and the timeline can kind of act as Layer Comps.

I shouldn't really be shading/cleaning-up my doodles when I haven't even committed to the staging or even finished some scenes yet. That way I'll get attached too much to an idea when a bet...

Got permission to use the guitar/voice samples from Scotty huzzah! Bit more progress, although I think I'm losing track and can't make it too much longer.

Apologies for lack of stuff the past month. Work tends to pile up and hopefully I'll have some free time to work on my own stuff in a couple weeks.

Jolly Good Show! (finished)

I may have uploaded this version before already, but download it just to be safe (also it's now an uncompressed .wav)!

Some point I'm going to hire a professional masterer, but I'll save that for when I make an album.

darrybennen revisited w.i.p.

Revisiting another old FL Studio era song that I think will fit the style of Kooky Nuts Pop Vol. 5 if all goes well. Although I should probably ask the bloke behind the voice/guitar sample for his permission, since I really enjoy his vids.

bog doodles

Doodles done while on the bog (cept the last picture where attempted to observe n draw some goats at a farm).maybe some mild foxglove spoilers, but dialogue and designs are still very likely to change.

I might redraw the silly cow and Rapunzel homophone joke 'cause they make me chuckle, even if they're stupid. (although the cow joke doesn't work now that I read that they didn't take the eye out the cow before slicing it; the joke is assuming the cow is expecting to get her eye back once...

Jolly Good Show (pretty much finished!)

There's a spatial enhancer going on on the master that I think's doing more harm than good, but beside that it's done! Well actually, I suppose I ought to make a short version which won't be easy to make sound seamless. Also I don't trust my own mastering abilities so I'll have to look out for someone 'cause I like dynamics but don't like how quiet my music sounds compared to other music I like.

Day & Night Remix

That Raymond Scott song from the 50's/60's sounds like a modern Tech House backing so I thought I'd have a muck about with it.

I might cobble together a free plagiaristic album, but even on YouTube with its Content ID I worry about the suits coming after me. What's a good place to plonk an bunch of tracks and album art without setting anything off?

edit: slight update

mouse!

The Mouse and His Child (1977) has lovely music, so what better way to pay tribute than to loop a few seconds of it with sloppy beats on an ST-224. Actually, there's a fair bit more going on than that; as usual I got carried away with what was meant to be a therapeutic quick jam.

Been very busy with both Pencilmation and Ollie & Scoops, driving me a bit mad, but putting away some time to make this helped. Although really I ought to use my spare time for the hard unpleasan...

boss fight.flp (2012)

Occasionally I like to peek into my older stuff. Can't believe it's been roughly a decade already since I first opened FL Studio. I was really into the Day The Earth Stood Still chords at the time it seems. That or C, F, G, Eb.
I'll probably do an "old stuff" compilation after a couple decent albums.

Jolly Good Show (single) is very nearly finished! I want to animate a loop as a video...

fUTURE fUNK hITS 97 some japanese letters

You'd think it wouldn't be fashionable to do parodies of "vaporwave"'s various "subgenres" by incorporating inappropriate music samples in an otherwise identically produced track. Apparently not, as there's still overly compressed Xfer OTT and soundgoodyized Vengence sound library productions getting millions of views and actual music videos made today. So sod it. (Also doesn't change the fact listening to som...

Dragonny monster thing and rain, dear

Doodled the monster while watching Ross's Game Dungeon: Maabus. And the Rain, Dear was one of those tired just before bed concepts for an album cover maybe, although it looks more like a moose.

drummy time further WIP

Not as much progress on this as on Jolly Good Show but that's cos I'm more or less completely redoing half of it. Drummy Time's one of those tunes where I like elements of it but not the rest so I'm starting with what I like and seeing where it goes from there. It's a little dull right now, but I'm going to add new bits between parts.

Jolly Good Show WIP

The final thing will be shorter (losing two sections) but I'm going to finish the extended one before shortening it. Anyway I'd say this is about 85% finished?

I'm trying my best not to let this turn into a remix so I'm keeping all the cheesy sounds. I'm going to use the same melody and chords for a completely different production with vocals etc one day though, I just like it the tune that much and would like to do something that's less "novelty 90's sega cd" sounding. Although I may a...

fats waller possum

Whenever I see that picture of the possum playing a dinky piano I think of "Ain't Misbehavin'" so I doodled this. I prefer this possum over the dog from that previous western drawing, so I'll probably take this design further.

western

I'd like to do a farcical western cartoon some point.

Also I hate Natron; it's bugs and annoyances make it take a WHOLE DAY just to composite the elements together and do the subtle camera aberration stuff. What a waste of my time. "Version 2.4" is a joke, it's a prototype, simply put. Unusable for reliable and consistent work. I'm only doing ONE FRAME as a pipeline concept piece, and it's constantly glitching, producing renders that don't match the viewport, etc etc. Anyway I'm looking...

really messy and unformatted ramble about copyright

i've come to realise whenever someone comes and asks "permission" to use a song of mine in a project of theirs, i'm in fact not giving them my permission; rather i'm giving them my endorsement or personal opinion of the music's suitability. of all the permissions i've given, only two times i have expressed discontent. it had been when either the track isn't finished or ive not been fond of, or is being used in a distasteful context (or i just don't "get it") both of which may give the wrong i...

cheap trumpet sample thing bashed out in a couple hours

I dunno, I'm a fan of the uncanny pitch shifted breathy effect you get with cheap and nasty samples. Also the SQ80 is working again, and I traded a couple CDs for an expression pedal with my uncle which works great with the SQ80. That combined with the polyphonic aftertouch is a lot of fun. Although I've just realised REAPER doesn't support polyphonic aftertouch editing, argh!! Hope somebody's made a plugin/mod for that.

ollie & scoops scenes

Moonlighting for another online cartoon series. I hate how the more inbetweens I add, the more it looks like that "smoothest Simpsons animation" meme. A lot of it honestly looked better as just keys and breakdowns 'cause the interesting drawings were visible on screen for longer.

Dragon

Don't think I posted this already. Early dragon concepts for Foxglove although I haven't done any since either because I want to finish the storyboard first, so I'm aware of what's necessary from the storyboard. I suppose for a start a dragon needs wings, hmm.

The animation paper's punched by a japanese brand you can get on eBay (it's bright yellow), and the paper itself is from a large roll from Hobbycraft cut to size. It isn't economic, but neither is actual pre-punched animation pape...

the soulful jester (and a foxglove panel)

I ended up drawing a jester when I wanted to storyboard Knight Foxglove some more. There's a story among these panels maybe. Something like, the jester is sent to jail for making the stony king cry with his melodies. Inside, the king appreciates having his weaknesses dug up; it is exhausting having a whole life of pressures mummified by a iron exterior.

Foggy Morning

Finished up that tune from yesterday, or at least can't bear to do a 2 dozenth run though each instrument checking they're not a couple dB off for a particular verse. This is why softer music suits me, not as fatiguing to go through a billion times. Also being a first attempt to do lyrics, of course it's about the morning!

It's Restoring

It annoys me how generic synthpoppy this is, anyway I was supposed to be working on Jolly Good Show. It's head-bobby and catchy though, so you had your warning!

Also, about half way through storyboarding Knight Foxglove! Although still some hurdles with the plot.

little melody from a dream

Very tired shakey voice as I had to record it as soon as I woke up, in case I forgot. The chords aren't really what I intended, but it's difficult to cling onto the memory of a song in a dream, while simultaneously playing chords on the keyboard trying to figure out what they were. Hearing new, wrong, chords only further buried what the chords were meant to be. Oh well! Very sloppy, but this is how I song-write: temporary cheesy presets and wobbly voices.

Meanwhile the SQ-80's now havin...

EHEHEHEH

Why on earth is Kontakt the standard when it comes to samplers? It's so damn slow selecting 50 individual groups in order to do round-robin sampling. I would just use shortcircuit but that's unreliable when reloading project for some reason.

Anyway, I figured since I recorded a whole bunch of acoustic drums one at a time for specific songs, I may as well make Kontakt instruments out of those samples. So now I have a flexible "raw" snare with lots of round-robins and velocity sensitivity...
