Always thought these were awesome as a kid, but now that I have one myself, well... heh, I mean it's still pretty awesome, and it's always fun opening up new old stock items like this! Wish it was better suited to multi-disc PC games though.

Good grief this has been an ordeal to get completed, ha. The hardware isn't the most difficult to find, but getting a complete working set? That's a pain and a half.
But a ton of fun as well, really quite pleased with how this all came together! Just took a couple years of gathering items, getting them working, and then finally doing all the major research/scripting/filming/testing/editing work over the past couple weeks.
Definitely taking a couple days to recoup, but until then, e...

There are few items from the background of my videos that have received as many questions as these speakers! I mean, sure, they're just retro computer speakers, but they sure are eye-catching. Heck, that eye-catching quality is half the reason I wanted them in the first place. And they cost $300 back in the day!
So yeah, this is a video about a pair of old desktop speakers from Roland in 1990. Because LGR things.

Guess you could say I'm on a roll at the moment? Feels like it at least. Can't tell ya how much that vacation really massaged the "creative output" portion of my brain, I've felt energized ever since.
Anyway, this is the Kenwood UCR-421, a 72x CD-ROM from 1999 that the company claimed was the fastest drive of its kind, ever. And I'd believe it, this thing is phenomenally quick and I've personally never come across anything faster. Not even close, it's darned impr...

EDIT: For some dumb reason YouTube decided to only show this in 360p... new version has been uploaded, HD resolutions should be working now!
Here's one I've been wanting to cover for years, finally all came together! This is the Sony MDH-10 MD Data drive for personal computers. Yep, they had MiniDisc storage a decade before formats like Hi-MD came along in the 2000s!
Well, it mostly came together. A little bummed that even after several units and lots of h...

Here's one for all you clean freaks out there! Always getting requests for more videos of just tidying up old tech, so here's a video of exactly that. Same display that I found near the end of LGR Thrifts Episode 39.
And yeah I had to whip out the Apple II Plus to test this one out, it was only appropriate. A simple, laid-back video. Enjoy :)
EDIT: updated the video with some audio fixes, new footage

Of all the frivolous add-ons and upgrades I've installed into my PCs over the years, from audio input panels to RGB lighting, I've never actually had anything like this.
This nifty little thing from 1999 sports a color VFD with a spectrum analyzer and, while catching the eye of certain PC builders, didn't last too long on the market. But I was finally able to track one down and get it imported from Japan. Enjoy!

Since Forsaken Remastered is coming out (or rather, just came out today) I figured it was the ideal time to take a look back at the original Windows game from 1998!
FPS games with 6DoF movement, or Descent-likes, aren't everyone's cup of tea. But if you like your tea with tons of colored lights, drum and bass music, and ample '90s absurdity? Oh yeah, Forsaken delivers.

Now this one was fun to put together. Filled with unforeseen challenges and tons of retakes and modifications done on the fly, but fun regardless!
Half was filmed before I went on vacation, the other half was filmed since I returned, over the course of about a month. It's actually the project that convinced me "huh, I think I need more time in between videos."
But yeah, thank goodness I have this thing put back together because I really do rely on it for all sorts of LGR projects. ...

Ah, feels good to be back with a classic game retrospective! Hope you enjoy this one, it's been on my to-do list ever since I covered the original After Dark screensaver modules. Crap was that five years ago? 😮
Thank you to everyone for your feedback regarding the previous post as well. Lots of encouragement, new ideas, and critical feedback is exactly what I was hoping for (and need) as I'm moving forward with the next stages of LGR.
Won't be moving to releasing one video a wee...

Had a great vacation over the past week, lots of relaxing. Thank you for the encouragement while I was gone! Seriously. I haven't really responded to much because I was avoiding social media/inboxes all I could, but it was still awesome to get uplifting messages each day. They were all seen and appreciated and truly cemented that I have the best job I could hope for. I am now feeling flush with energy to tackle the projects I left behind last week!
SO THAT BEING SAID...

Still taking a bit of a break behind the scenes (as described here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Gztub4_ZvI) but I put this GUS video together before I headed off into an oceanic sunset.
Hope you enjoy! It's a video I've been planning for years in bits and pieces, although the past month has been the brunt of the work.

This video is truly a combination of Oddware, Tech Tales, unboxing, camera review, game coverage, and pretty much every kind of LGR thing I do, all in one place.
One of those videos that I've always wanted to make ever since I started LGR! Or really, ever since I saw the company implode back in the day, followed the crazy news stories that resulted, and was just always curious about the hardware itself.
Hope you enjoy this half hour retrospective, the territory covered is substanti...

I do not recommend spending 30 hours in three days to make a review. I used to have a brain but it is now mush. There it is, on my keyboard as I type this. It is sticky.
Oh well, this video is what resulted so I hope you enjoy!

Now this is a cool keyboard. Not only does it utilize early Cherry MX Black key mechanisms, but it's also an infrared wireless keyboard replacement for the PCjr! As well as the "PC Senior," ha.
Been hoping to cover some keyboards like this for a while now, so lemme know if you'd like to see some more classic boards on LGR. Because, well, I have a ton and there's a surprising range when it comes to keyboards.
As an aside, I ended up having an odd amount of trouble getting this episo...

Well this video was not planned in any way, haha. Had a retro hardware project go temporarily haywire so I put this together over the last few days instead.
No script, minimal depth, just looking at a nostalgic old game and me lazily rambling. #PutTheLazyBackInLazyGameReviews

Turns out it's been five years since I last did one of these videos. Good grief, I could've sworn it was only a couple years back but NOPE.
So I figure this follow-up was long overdue. Just a relaxed time looking through some retro software catalogs.

Picked this up in the last episode of Thrifts and just had to try it out with the X-10 system I covered on LGR Oddware a while back. A bit of a simpler video in scope since I really needed a break after that monstrous Unreal retrospective, but I hope it's enjoyable anyway!

When I set out to do this a while back, I can't say I planned to make this a half-hour monstrosity of a review video.
